Must have makeup

I need cheering up and planning to treat myself to some new makeup. Please give me your makeup recommendations that you love to stop me wasting loads of money.

I wear ELDW foundation which I love as I need full coverage, but any other similar/better options I should be trying?

I definitely want something that gives cheek areas a bit of a glow for evenings out, is charlotte tilbury flawless filter any good? Or anything better?

And any other makeup bits you wouldn’t be without.

I use Bare Minerals original powder foundation, as a primer I’m using a Charlotte Tilbury dupe, it’s Catrice Glowifier Illuminating Primer £4.99!
I love Weleda skin food as a moisturiser and will never be without Bare Minerals warmth bronzer.
There is a great blogger called Shelby who does a lot of Bare Minerals tutorials on You Tube, she’s worth a look.

I'd not bother with CT. ELDW is great.

readingismycardio · 28/10/2022 08:49

I never try foundations or powders (my go to powders are the laura mercier translucent once and by terry translucent), however I love trying out lipsticks (CT are great!), and mascaras (I recently bought from CT a colored mascara - burgundy and I love it!)

Thanks for sharing this, it is very useful.

This lip gloss is lovely, stays on, Fu$$y is a nice shade too.

When I had a makeover done about a year before lockdown I liked the Bare Minerals products she used.

You could also go to Bobbi Brown as they used to do a makeup refresh which basically is doing makeup refresh but you get money off what you spend, e.g. £5/£10

The Double Wear Hydra something or another foundation is lovely. I'm a die hard ELDW fan too.

blusteryshowersaway · 29/10/2022 04:01

CT flawless filter is amazing. As is her cream bronzer. Primer not so much. Powders are good as are the cream eyeshadows. Don’t bother with her mascara.

Primark do a dupe of flawless filter which is remarkably good and only £5.

I have yet to find a primer I love.

savvy7 · 29/10/2022 07:31

Lancome waterproof mascara.

LadySpratt · 29/10/2022 07:38

Dior’s Diorshow Overcurl Mascara. Nothing goes on as easily.

bjjgirl · 29/10/2022 07:40

So I joined beauty pie and love their foundation and tinted moisturiser- their cover up is great along with the eyebrow products and shadows- in fact I have been delighted with everything as a long time mac / eldw addict

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 07:42

If you love the full coverage of double wear I'd stick with it.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 29/10/2022 07:51

I used to be a Double Wear Light user but now alternate between Erborian CC cream and IT cosmetics Your Skin But Better. Both are fab but might not be the full coverage you are after.

I also love the M&S Luminosity primer, as well as Smashbox Photo Finish. For cheeks I love Nars The Multiple.

on my to buy list is Victoria Beckham’s Satin Kajal liner but have to wait and see how much my car service is going to cost me!

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 07:54

If money is no option I would recommend a pat mcgrath mothersip - which ever one is "your" shades and you will use every day. I have divine rose one and midnight sun. Wait for a sale though as they are always in a sale.

superplumb · 29/10/2022 07:54

I had eldw mascara in a pack and its brilliant! Doeant flake or smudge on my lids, lasts ages and easy to remove.
Also love chanel bronzer which adds a bit of oomph to my flat face. I also use eldw foundation and love it too. I powder with laura Marcia loose powder. I accidentally got the shiny one but it's nice. I just add extra as a highlighter.

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 07:55

And the lancome eyeliners are a surprise hit for me, I know nothing about the brand but got given a tiny sample one once when I bought a Christmas present for someone one year.

Realityloom · 29/10/2022 07:58

ELF putty primer from Superdrug is great.

WhenisitmyturntobePM · 29/10/2022 08:10

For base I love Armani luminous silk - medium coverage but doesn’t need to be more than that. My makeup artist even used it on my wedding day.

I use chantecaille tinted moisturiser if I want something sheerer and it’s so healthy looking.

I also regularly mix a bit of By Terry Sunny Flash in with both.

For bronzer, the Ester Lauder Bronze Goddess is unbeatable.

hartof · 29/10/2022 11:06

I find Charlotte tilbury airbrush flawless nicer on the skin than double wear, but it has the same coverage. I find it lasts better too.

Ratonastick · 29/10/2022 11:12

I was a diehard ELDW wearer til they discontinued my shade. After much stress, many £ and the odd Oompa Loompa moment, I have established that Laura Mercier long lasting foundation is as good if not better and have a great range for the ghostly pale.

And I highly recommend Avon eye liner. Absolutely perfect, soft , smudgeable, stay on all day and cost buttons.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 29/10/2022 11:32

Things I wouldn't recommend:

Dior chubby lip pencils - got one and the shade is awful. Same to their silver eyeliner, broke in a second!

YSL Faux Cils and Dior Show waterproof mascara also not worth money.

Bare Minerals eyeliner is nice.

Fenty foundations - some of them oxidise badly. Love the lip gloss though especially shade Fu$$y, stays on forever too.

Chanel Vitalumiere foundation - excellent, wish it wasn't so expensive...

Not overly impressed with CT stuff, used to work round corner from main shop in Covent Garden, got lipliners, lipsticks but distinctly unimpressed.

Dior quads - eyeshadow. Great.

I use Bourjois Riz de Java finishing powder - think it's discontinued. Better than any high end ones.

I use a blusher - Dior, can't think of shade but it's the one I keep reaching for every day for the past 2 years. Boots Natural Collection also do excellent mascaras.

Which liner please, sounds great?

Lisa Eldridge lipstick, always unique shades.

Ratonastick · 29/10/2022 13:25

Glimmer sticks . They are about £6 but very often come up on offers. I have spent more money than I care to think on make up and these are hands down one of the best things I have ever found.

Thanks, I tried them years and years ago and they didn't stay put but I'll try them again as they might be changed the formula.
