How did you feel after having longer hair cropped trendy short?

For years my thin hair has been below my shoulder with a few side layers......it is very fine and poker straight and all I do with it is clip it up and wear it pulled back out of the way. As a young mum of 2 our parents sometimes offer to babysit which gives me chance to get glammed up and have a night out with DH......... When I get ready and blow my hair I feel I just don't like how it looks. For the past few years I have loved how some of the celebs have cut their hair in a really short look that I think is so stylish.
I have chatted with friends about going short, all of them are still long, and some feel I may regret having it cut, all of us are still long haired and I will be the first of us to go trendy short.
I am lucky that I am small and petite still and I think that a cute short style will really suit me but up to now the only major supporter for having it cut off is my Mum!!
I have attached some hair styles for fine straight hair to show what sort of look I would like and if anyone has had the same dilemma it would be good to see any of your style ideas, hear what you decided and if you are happy how it worked out.........

I did it a few years ago and loved it. But it's much higher maintenance than long. I no longer had the choice to just tie it up. Always had to style it

I finfld that with short hair, it takes more effort to look nice. My hair was short when younger. Especially with short dark hair, a person can look very matronly and square. Ehen my hair was short, I never looked cool or edgy.

With short hair, you need to have it blonde or dyed to an unusual colour and be prepared to wear edgy, arty clothes to carry it off and look trendy. If you have dark short hair and classic clothes you just look really settled and old fashioned.

Takes an age to grow out and can look dreadful in the in between stage.

Did it, cut it up short on a whim. Looked good and gradually went shorter. They changed colour and then had nowhere to go, so over lock down grew it out (it took ages and went through various stages, i would have struggled doing in normal times tbh). Now long and managing fine. I love changing it up, and may go short again!

Oh well, that's me fucked, then.
"Matronly".Really? Did you use tongs? 😂🤓

I hope I didn't offend anyone. I am quite plain looking and it is so easy to look'ordinary' with the short hair. I need some dye and length to look reasonable.

Long hair is easier and I think usually looks better. Short hair can take a lot more time and styling than it would seem. Long hair is actually lower maintenance.

Notimetothink · 26/10/2022 20:55

I suppose it depends how short.
Mine is really short and choppy so very little maintenance.

Bemyclementine · 26/10/2022 20:59

I agree if its properly short and your hair is fine, lies flat, styling should be minimal. Mine was cheekbone length one side and I have thick wavy hair and am crap with a hairdryer so had to style daily.

Yep, there’s a few of us saying this - it’s very easy to look like you’ve given up, even when you haven’t!!

Mine wasn’t. I woke up every morning looking like I’d been through a combine harvester. Washed it to tame it, a good 15-20 minutes to dry it (at least), then straighteners.

Then, if there was the slightest humidity or breeze, I looked like the combine harvester had come back for another go.

It drove me insane.

I have just this week had my below shoulder long hair cut to an above shoulder layered bob. I love it. I can tie it back if I need to, going to practice putting some waves in with straighteners, and it just feels so much better. All I was doing previously was tying my hair back as I got fed up with it, and I never managed to get the look right. This is about as short as I'll go though.
