I'm on a bit of mission to find non-frumpy, flat knee-high boots...i'm late 40s, and have missed them so much..not to wear with skinny jeans anymore, but with short or midi skirts - so I can just go out and not worry about getting cold legs etc...I bought these...but they are just too clumpy for me, but the more delicate ones look old-fashioned...what's the compromise, anyone know!? These are Shoe The Bear, Patti. Thanks.

Try DuoBoots which come in several calf widths.

JustOrderADoor · 23/10/2022 23:05

Sorry, but they look like Welly's, is it too late to send them back?

hopefully you'll get some lovely suggestions.

Lalaland50 · 23/10/2022 23:07

yes, agree they look like wellies! They are going back for sure!

Really love both of the last two, especially the clarks ones. Have been looking at over over-the-knee ones - I'm very recently widowed and worried that i might look like I was trying a bit too hard, if you know what i mean. Also, love suede, but will they look tatty more quickly?

I actually like the ones you're wearing in your photos. Yes, they look clumpy but that's the point! You look very current in them. Obviously if you're not trying to look current, fair enough.

I think otk boots look fab but it's very personal of course. As for try hard, well, wear what you like quite frankly. If you like em, wear em. Who gives a stuff what anyone else thinks. If anyone deserves to wear something that brings them a modicum of pleasure right now, then its you. Suede can wear a bit quicker than leather but a suede brush or toothbrush helps with stains and to freshen them up.

Kissingfrogs25 · 24/10/2022 06:55

The boots are too baggy and clumpy and do absolutely nothing for you. I would send them back. The long skirt makes the whole think look very frumpy. Sorry op.

Kissingfrogs25 · 24/10/2022 06:57

Don't wear over the knee. It screams desperate. Julia Roberts wore them for a good reason.

Beefcurtains79 · 24/10/2022 07:00

I think they look great, they are supposed to look clumpy/chunky.

Slowgrowingelm · 24/10/2022 07:07

Op I’m late 40’s and own several ovk boots. The Clark’s boot are a copy of the Stuart weitzman half and half boot, without the price tag - although they’re obviously still not cheap. They look fantastic on and go with so many things. Where I am, London, you see so many well dressed, classic looking women, my age and far older, wearing boots similar to this. Julia Roberts wore plastic/patent top-of-the thigh stiletto boots. Completely different.

Lalaland50 · 24/10/2022 07:26

love the differing opinions.. but still not sure… will send the current ones back anyway, I can find better for the money.

Clumpy/chunky looks fantastic on skinny young teens, not so cool when you are pushing fifty.

Just my view.

Mine are Jones, I have chunky calves so no chance of looking like wellies on me (I have the ones to fit larger calves)

RortyDogOfTheRemove · 24/10/2022 08:32

@Lalaland50 I have got these very boots. I wear them with skirts. I may be jumping to conclusions, but your first photo suggests that you have the same problem as me - namely slim legs which make a lot of otherwise nice boots look like wellies. The Dune ones fit me very well, if that helps! I can't really do clumpy as I look ridiculous (I'm generally small), and I don't like a lot of non-clumpy boots, but I am pleased with the Dune ones.

Lalaland50 · 24/10/2022 08:34

Ok great thanks. Yes I’m little, and can very easily look overwhelmed in clothes.
thanks for that.

So sorry to hear you've been widowed so young Flowers Take lots of care

To judge by the OP's photographs, she'd hardly be going for the Pretty Woman look. OP, I have also got some black suede otk boots, which I think came from M&S (not known for its prostitute-style footwear).

I have these and they are fab. A bit pricey but really well made and the perfect cross between chunky and fitted.
