Best winter candle - no cinnamon!

I'm not sure if this is style and beauty so apologies in advance. I thought candles might be "style".

What is your favourite winter candle that doesn't smell cinnamony? I can't stand the cinnamony smell. I had one from Diptyque last year called Flocon (I think it was) which I loved, but it was limited edition. I don't like their fireplace one as its too smokey and actually smells like a fire.

Any ideas?

I don’t have any actual recommendations as I’m not at Diptique level of fanciness 😂 but sandalwood is my favourite scent.

PAFMO · 19/10/2022 08:19

Bath and Body Works do some lovely winter ones.
If you're after not cinnamon, look for white or green coloured candles rather than red. I find most red ones have that fruity spice thing going on.
The most beautiful one I ever had was Liz Earle rosemary and eucalyptus but think it was a limited edition.
Good old Yankee do some winter ones that aren't spicy- Christmas Garland, one with Spruce in the title., Can't remember name in full.

Oh it doesn't have to be Diptique fancy! Anything, supermarket own brand, Yankee, a tiny little online shop. I'm just stuck not being able to get to the shops to sniff them myself at the moment. I have someone who can get to the supermarket for me though.

@PAFMO Thank you for the tips! Yes I shall avoid red ones that is a bit like a WARNING CINNAMON sign!

It's expensive but Jo Loves Christmas Tree candle is gorgeous.

GetUsedToTheHeatAgain · 19/10/2022 08:27

Have a look in TKmaxx lots of Christmas candles coming in now (but run past the horrid Halloween smells).

Some of the Australian branded ones have a lot of pine/woody kind of fragrances.

bellinisurge · 19/10/2022 08:28

Also can't bear cinnamon

LadyEloise1 · 19/10/2022 09:25

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes cinnamon.
I dislike spicy scents and Christmassy scents. I'll leave a shop / premises very fast if a cinnamon scented candle is burning. Likewise for Pomegranate Noir.

Highland soap company do whiskey & honey candles which are lovely

ForkHandler · 19/10/2022 09:28

Charles Farris Pinetum is a beautiful Christmas Tree pine fragrance. I treat myself to one in the sales and only light it at the start of December.

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 19/10/2022 09:31

Bearded Candlemakers have beautiful scents based on Irish nature/culture.

Their winter scent range is all peat turf fires and whiskey.

I really like M&S frankincense and myrrh candle

aliciagardner · 19/10/2022 09:33

How about White Company Fir Tree candle? Smells just like a fresh forest of Christmas trees!

I also love the Botanical Candle Company - they have 3 Christmas candle scents. ‘First light’ is more eucalyptus-y candle

NightmareSlashDelightful · 19/10/2022 09:34

Boy Smells (awful name I know) have some good ones. The Fantome is lovely in winter, like aromatic smokey firewood and black tea.

BitsAndBaubles · 19/10/2022 09:35

Yuletide by Can To Candle is gorgeous, smells like fresh Christmas tree without snelling like loo cleaner @sandytooth

Ridingthegravytrain · 19/10/2022 09:36

Lidl have just got their burnt coffee and amber candles back in. They are nice and good for winter

BungledBundle · 19/10/2022 09:37

White company fireside. Absolutely gorgeous. Woody with some vanilla without being sweet.

Prangie · 19/10/2022 09:41

This one!

Shop around as you can often get a bit off, but they last ages and really fragrance the house so don't work out as expensive as they initially seem.

I dislike cinnamon too, ugh, but this is a LOT more sophisticated and also not the other winter stereotype which is woody (I do love Feu De Bois mind, but candles along those lines have already been suggested.)

ThatCheeseIsMine · 19/10/2022 09:42

Skandinavisk Skog - it's the ultimate crispy snow in a pine forest smell, total opposite of those cinnamony smells. Not cheap though.

I can't even bring myself to buy a "boy smells" candle, just yuck!

BurnDownTheDiscoHangTheDJ · 19/10/2022 09:45

DW Home do some lovely Christmas candles that aren't cinnamon-y. You can buy them in TK Maxx and HomeSense but there doesn't seem to be a place to buy them online in the UK. I had this Christmas tree one last year and it's really nice, there's one on ebay but hopefully they're already on sale in TKM and HS by now.

BitsAndBaubles · 19/10/2022 09:54

That sounds gorgeous

Izitso · 19/10/2022 09:57

National Trust Blue Spruce and Frosted Pine is amazing. It scents the room without being lit!

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 19/10/2022 09:57

Yankee twinkling lights is lovely, more like an aftershavey perfumey smell than cinnamon or anything traditionally christmassy. It's light, not fruity or flowery.

The site says Almond, jasmine and amber notes
