Has anyone got any suggestions for what I can do with my thick coarse frizzy hair, it's become really uncontrollable and is really getting me down (literally as it's so heavy!)

I've tried cutting it shorter and I've tried layers but both add even more volume which I want to avoid as it doesn't suit me. Straightening it takes longer to do than it lasts in my hair.

I dream of curls but despite trying the curly girl routine and various sulphate free and curly orientated products it never gets more than wavy and by day two it is just thick frizz.

I've actually googled wigs this week with a vague idea of shaving it off and giving up.

Any hairstyle/hair cut/product ideas would be brilliant.

Argon oil NOT stone oil lol lol

You can use any oil to seal in moisture aswell not only hair grease.

Also my tag is Mummyshowhair_care on insta and YT if you want to check it out x

Could you please send me a link to your YouTube?

I have the same hair but I always wear it in a bun.

A late response but oh my word, your hair is BEAUTIFUL (I recognise it needs a good product on it but wow, the colour and the curls!)

purplethings · 14/10/2022 07:20

My hair is similar thickness. I use coconut oil. Warm a 1/4 of a cup so it becomes liquid and rub into dry hair and leave. I shampoo every 2 weeks and probably about twice a week I wash with conditioner ( no shampoo ) The Oil makes my hair shiny, soft and more defined curls.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 14/10/2022 07:46

Your hair is beautiful. I agree with a lot of the PP suggestions: No brushing or straightening, also long layers to avoid the triangle effect if it's swamping you.

If the top layers are damaged, it could be due to direct sunlight drying out your hair. Wear a hat on holiday. Also, do you eat enough plant oils and omega 3 and 6? Deficiencies often manifest themselves in hair condition.

SeaThingChild · 14/10/2022 10:26

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone I am reading them all. I've booked a curly cut so hopefully that will help.

I appreciate all the positivity, I've always thought people thought it looked messy so it's nice to hear it's not as bad as I thought.

@CinnamonJellyBeans I spend most weekends outdoors and never wear a hat, didn't think about the sun affecting my hair so that's a really great point thanks, I'll remember that. I will check my omega intake too.

YorkshireLeedsLass re your hair comming out.. maybe get yr thyroid checked? Mine waa doing this when i had this issue. Its now grown back.

Op you have stunning hair.
I have similar texture . I find wearing foam sleep rollers a great help s they stop frizz.

Threelittlelambs · 15/10/2022 23:57

Can you come back and show us your new cut?

buttons123456 · 16/10/2022 08:33

Where is your curly cut ? I cut my own because hairdressers always want to make mine poofier and curlier and I hate it like that

CinnamonJellyBeans · 16/10/2022 11:52

Something else I thought of: How do you dry your hair? Do not rub it with a towel, or even wrap it in a towel. An old t shirt is great for curly hair. You just wrap your hair in it for ages until it is slightly damp

Also a good leave-in product is Garnier honey leave in conditioner. No silicone, lots of plant oils, extremely good value and makes your hair feel lovely

Allsnotwell · 01/12/2022 20:53

Any up date OP?

SeaThingChild any news on your new hairstyle?

MistySkiesAreGone · 05/12/2022 11:48

Interesting. I have frizzy hair and the best shampoo I found is Loreal Elseve detangling one as PP said. They used to do a Herbal essences defrizz one but they stopped.

If you want to straighten it, I quick rough dry then use a clamping hairbrush with the hairdryer. It is then ready for the straighteners. If I go in with the straighteners first off I am there for ages!

purplethings · 07/12/2022 21:45

Coconut oil, melt 2 tablespoons and rub into dry hair leave in until you wash. Regular use Has turned my daughters frizzy thick mane into beautiful shiny, curly locks. Wash once a week with shampoo and conditioner and once with just conditioner (sulphate free) never brush, use you fingers.

dancingqueen123 · 07/12/2022 21:55

Why don't you get a Brazilian treatment?

Milesty1 · 07/12/2022 22:00

I love your hair! Try a silk pillowcase to tame frizz. Have you tried a curling wand to help with the top layer? It sounds counter intuitive but my hair has a curl and I find the curling wand produces a more smooth curl, but it stays a long time because my hair is already wavy.

catandcoffee · 07/12/2022 22:43

@SeaThingChild any update on your lovely curly hair

SeaThingChild · 08/12/2022 08:23

Sorry no useful update but I am keeping an eye on all your brilliant tips and trying things out slowly. I'm afraid I backed out of the curly cut I'd booked as the only one that wasn't booked up until well i to next year wasn't particularly curly hair focused and the reviews were a bit ambiguous. I feel worse about hair dressers than dentists so need to find the right place. So far no big difference I'm afraid, except I'm spending a lot on oils and conditioners.

I hope you can find a curl hair expert soon. I found one in my area a couple of years ago and she would make your hair look spectacular.

Mine unfortunately is thin and fine and doesn't grow much, and finding the right products has been very much trial and error, but drying with a t-shirt instead of a towel, no brushing or combing when dry and diffusing make a huge difference.

The silk pillowcase only helps a little in my case but a silk bonnet /turban for sleeping in helps a lot.

Good luck with it!
