Did anyone see the Toast live video? Not really much tbh. I did love the fair isle and even the velvet kickflare trousers, both beautiful. No way would I buy them sadly with them being dry clean. There is also a disclaimer that says they will be stained by water!!!
Why is the velvet dry clean? it's just not necessary in this day and age. I'm sure the trousers would have been a sell-out had they just been machine washable.
Toast have made lovely slouchy flares in the past that have been lovely velvet.
I also did like the cord wide leg culottes. They were very nice. Might be tempted by them at some point.

happysoju · 27/10/2022 06:10

@neveradullmoment99 I watched the video and I'm now more in love with the silk twill border dress! The velvet trousers are nice, but I wish they were more of a fluid fabric- they seem a bit stuff and straighter than I imagined. Which I suppose is a good thing for my wallet!

On another note, I bought these corduroy trousers from Everlane- I've been looking for something like these and toast only seems to do tapered cords.

Hopefully they're just as good irl as in the photos!

Stoic123 · 27/10/2022 07:56

@neveradullmoment99 - watched the video. Nothing I'm really itching to buy but I quite like the Jacquard Alpaca jumper.

My wardrobe is a bit too full at the moment so I'm being really picky. Still buying for below the ankle - can highly recommend the Babbi slippers which are gorgeous.

They are gorgeous trousers and just like the old ones from Toast. Please report back! Good price too [ in comparison to Toast]
Think you are right about the stiffness of the velvet trousers but the dress did look beautiful. I wouldn't be so put off buying the dress in the velvet as it would need less washing but and it is a big but, if it stains with water, where would I wear it. I don't have the type of lifestyle just to keep it for occasions/best.

TempleofZoom · 27/10/2022 09:43

Oh I liked the video.
At least they put the lights on this time Grin
Love all the dresses but sadly don't have the lifestyle for anything velvet or silk and am a serial spiller of food, drinks, you name it I will spill it!
Love the fairisle jumper but ouch at the price.
Also the brown pique dress in a sort of handmaids tale type of way but not the colour.
Has anyone ordered the broderie anglaise dress?
How does the sizing come up?

Stravaig · 27/10/2022 10:06

In the olden days, when the shrooms were yet spores, Toast cotton velvets used to be machine washable, so not sure why these aren't. But at that price, who is going to be brave enough to try?

Shame, because those kick flares are the first time in more than a decade that I've been tempted by a pair of Toast trousers. IF the waist isn't too high. The legs look ALMOST full length and the crotch looks to be IN THE RIGHT PLACE. Thank all the gods. Will lurk for field reports :)

Congratulations, Toast, on finally sorting out the lighting for the videos! I could actually see the colours and textures of all the clothes.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/10/2022 11:06

With reference to the lighting etc on the video, why cannot I not get it full screen? Is there a button. I have looked in vain but peer into a small narrow window. Very annoying and this is regardless of device I am using.

There is a small box with arrows which pops up for me .

neveradullmoment99 · 27/10/2022 12:24

Thanks. Will look and see :)

neveradullmoment99 · 27/10/2022 12:25

Sadly no arrows on mine :(

Sooverthemill · 27/10/2022 13:12

@happysoju I buy quite a bit from Everlane. Once you know your size they are brilliant. The returns are annoying (for me) because the drop off point is miles away

Saurus72 · 27/10/2022 13:43

I went to the Toast shop just off Bond St last week to try a few things. I have to say it was the least welcoming Toast shop I’ve been to and won’t be going again. Islington/Cambridge for me!

I tried the velvet pinafore - it isn’t hugely oversized and I didn’t need to size down. The colour and fabric are stunning but just not convinced by dry clean only. I also tried the brown and cream tie front dress but it felt like a nightdress and wasn’t inspired.

They didn’t have the etched floral dress (in the live the model wore it with a blue jumper over the top) so I may order that. I’ve ordered a coat and jacket from Jigsaw so I need to see if I will keep either/both of those first because budget 😬

faustina · 27/10/2022 14:23

Those kick flares look a lot nicer on that woman than they do on the model in their photoshoot

@Stravaig - which cotton velvet piece did you machine wash? Because I tried with a beautiful kimono robe and it was a complete disaster

Stravaig · 27/10/2022 14:44

@faustina Going back 20 years! Heavy cotton velvet, hipsters, wide legs, tab fastening at front, came in sage green and grey. They were indestructible. I still see the grey ones secondhand sometimes.

Moving forward in time, also peat and pumpkin velvet straight legs, then navy flat fronts - but can't remember for sure if they were still cotton velvet or a good quality blend. By the time of the sea-green velvet jeans it was artificial fibres and the quality was terrible, the pile wore off across the leg creasing within a year. All machine washed, inside out, at 30/40°.

I didn't know there was a cotton velvet robe - by the time I tried one, it was a slippy viscose-silk blend. Bit envious! therefore, sorry for your loss.

faustina · 27/10/2022 15:51

isn't it funny how we have almost forensic memories of our favourite things? Velvet robes were amongst the very first things Toast sold - they were absolutely beautiful (until I got my hands on them sadly)

NoCureForLove · 27/10/2022 17:04

Hi All,
I'm very uninspired by latest Toast offerings - on a number of fronts - brown-ness, impracticality (see discussions below re dry clean only), PRICE and nothing really grabbing me...
It does make me look elsewhere though and that has been fun.
recent purchases from L F Markey - fab cords, Folk - lovely heavy "satin" skirt and Uniqlo - seamless cashmere jumper. All navy!

faustina · 27/10/2022 20:22

@NoCureForLove - if I had room for another pair of trousers I would definitely be ordering those! They look brilliant

happysoju · 28/10/2022 07:27

@neveradullmoment99 Will do! After taxes it ended up costing around the same as toast trousers, but free shipping + much cheaper returns ($15 vs $40 at toast!) means I'm not too out of pocket if they're not quite right.

@Sooverthemill Good to know. I've purchased them once before but thought it was pretty overpriced for the quality (it was a wool jacket). Hopefully the trousers are better!

Speaking of other brands, has anyone bought from www.soeur.fr/ ? I love everything on there right now, it's very toast-esque in style and price 😝... but would love to know the quality before I commit to a purchase.

Snowyowl78 · 28/10/2022 09:44

i got this today and I love it! As usual I think it’s a bit long and will need taking up about 4 inches and a possible popper on the chest as it gapes a bit. Will end up costing me over £200 after having it adjusted. I do really like it though, much more flattering on me than a lot of toast dresses.

www.toa.st/products/check-cotton-cashmere-dress-slate-cord

Saurus72 · 28/10/2022 10:46

Ah I have that dress @Snowyowl78 it’s so cosy and warm isn’t it? It gapes a bit at the bust on me but I just pin it and it’s fine. Washes well too.

Snowyowl78 · 28/10/2022 10:49

@Saurus72 its really lovely! And such a great shape. Often toast dresses make me look oversized and frumpy so I have to be careful. I wondered about washing re. the cashmere- did you just do a 30 degree gentle cycle? I am assuming I shouldn’t spin it.

Saurus72 · 28/10/2022 11:05

i did 30 degree 45 mins (with spin!) and was perfect - easy to iron too - good job because we no longer have our cleaners who were 100x better at ironing than me!

Snowyowl78 · 28/10/2022 11:09

@Saurus72 well that sounds easy enough! Hoping to avoid ironing altogether! Thanks for the tip.

TheChattyRat · 28/10/2022 13:59

Can I just ask you both about the dress @Saurus72 and @Snowyowl78 - how long is it on you and how tall are you? (If you don't mind me asking!)

Snowyowl78 · 28/10/2022 14:05

@TheChattyRat too long! About 4 inches past the knee. I am 5’3, and really I want it just at the bottom of the knee. I think it’s slightly higher at the front than the back? I figure since everything is aimed at 5’6 everything is going to be c. 3 inches long on me, so I’m not altering the intent of the dress by changing the length.
