I noticed a review on the Lucy and Yak website regards a pair of their cord trousers comparing them to the ridiculously expensive Toast ones. Was it anyone on here?

Laska2Meryls · 19/10/2022 20:08

Too busy enjoying Oxford river walks and a pint , @neveradullmoment99 !
It was a fab day and so warm , would have been a shame not to be out ..
I went into Edinburgh shop just a few weeks ago, and tbh...( Bit of a shock for me) there's really nothing that grabs me atm , ( well not at the current Toast prices).. Come the sale, Ill reconsider..

@neveradullmoment99 I didn't leave a review, but I did post on here about how the Lucy and Yak, and the Uniqlo cords easily were worth buying over the Toast Gabis.

happysoju · 19/10/2022 21:48

Anyone know if there will be another sale for the summer collection? Seeing as the fading summer sale was only over a weekend, I'm guessing it wasn't enough time to clear all the stock (+ all the returns from people ordering multiple sizes!)

I'm really just lusting after the space check tiered dress that I missed out on...

faustina · 20/10/2022 08:03

Can you wash cotton velvet ? I tried with my favourite Toast robe once and it didn't go well

Saurus72 · 20/10/2022 11:22

I’ve had various cotton velvet coats/jackets from Boden over the years and have washed (and tumble dried 😬) them all, they have all come out like new. I did the same with a Banana Republic velvet jacket which ended in disaster. Quite high stakes.

haribonoyoudont · 20/10/2022 11:42

Has anyone bought or tried on this skirt? I love the look of it but am a bit nervous about feedback about the small waistband: www.toa.st/products/geometric-cotton-jacquard-skirt-soft-black-ecru

I'm not sure. You cannot wash silk velvet.

faustina · 20/10/2022 13:43

such a shame. They used to do the most amazing thick cotton velvet kimonos in beautiful colours - but dry clean only! (the one I tried to wash was a disaster afterwards).

It's all very well using cotton velvet for a throw or bedcover, where you might clean it every six months, but a dressing gown you wear every single day needs more than that!

I don't think the velvet robes they do now look anything like as nice as they used to (they're viscose/silk) and they're dry clean only too

I guess something like a party dress wouldn't be so bad?

lordloveadog · 20/10/2022 13:53

@haribonoyoudont I've ordered that skirt to try on but won't be in UK to try it for a couple of weeks. Euro mark up is so much that better to order within UK and wait until visit. I'm hoping the smaller waist will be ok for me because very hourglass so that trousers usually too big at waist. But will see. Not sure it'll be flattering but reviews are very positive and curiosity got the better of me.

I have some gorgeous velvet trousers from a sale a couple of years ago but don't wear as often as would like because dry clean and also scared of spilling on them and can't wear any time my own or anyone else's sticky children might paw me.

Stravaig · 20/10/2022 17:11

Pssst! Winter is online.

mizu · 20/10/2022 18:53

Me too. It is beautiful but at over £200 for cotton? I have a similar dress from last year in a different print. No way was it that expensive.

dudsville · 20/10/2022 20:02

I like that olive dress too, and the ticking stripe dress, can't imagine how they'll ever be reduced to my price range!

Snowyowl78 · 21/10/2022 13:51

I got a delivery today- the easy peaks print dress and this one in a small this time

www.toa.st/products/gathered-turrell-check-dress-navy-teal

I like the Turrell a lot but it really needs to be knee length to work for me. I’m not sure I should spend a further £20 taking up a £175 dress though!

peaks print too big I think, going to size down.
sizing is silly. I am a good 14, and am buying Small and size 10! Madness.

dudsville · 21/10/2022 21:50

Sizing is all over the shop. I'm also a strong 14. I find with dresses it's easier because I'm smaller up top, so i just look at where the shoulder seems sit and how the buttons lay if there are any. I continuously look at the models and think there no way, if I'm wearing a 12 or medium and they're this loose that they're wearing a 6 or xs and achieving a neater look. Are you keeping either dress @Snowyowl78 ?

Snowyowl78 · 21/10/2022 22:04

@dudsville not sure yet, I need tj try them in properly, just through them on today l during my lunch break! I am not sure if I am brave enough to drastically alter the length of the Turrell one or not.
i also really want this but is sooooo expensive. I nabbed a different colour on eBay and is so lovely, really want the ‘truffle’ one.

Snowyowl78 · 21/10/2022 22:08

So many spelling errors sorry!

dudsville · 21/10/2022 22:13

Oooh, you're in shopping mode! I know what you mean about not wanting to alter something so pricey... but what's £20 if you love it? Fwiw, i would also balk at that too, but I've tweaked almost all of my toast trousers, they were sale purchases so it feels OK. I simply made the mistake of buying straight instead of tapered wide leg trousers so sat down one day with 5 pairs of wool trousers and my machine.

Snowyowl78 · 22/10/2022 07:15

@dudsville ah I wish I had your talent for sewing! I’m always in shopping mode sadly!

I also got 2 of the wool tencel high neck tees. They are lovely and very chic but so fine that I feel like I could easily put my thumb through when putting on! Yet to decide on those too. I think they could work well as a neat top with loose wide trousers. The neck is good for me, not too high or itchy.

Why do all toast dresses have to be mid calf? That length doesn’t always work for me, I am quite small and I feel when something is quite loose with an easy fit it does look better a bit shorter. I might be a lone voice in this view though as the reviews often seem to appreciate the length.

dudsville · 22/10/2022 07:53

Although mid calf is my preferred length i do think it would be in line with toast ethics and prices to have a seamstress in each shop just doing quick hem fixes.

Snowyowl78 · 22/10/2022 07:58

I agree, I have taken up 4 pairs of Toast trousers this summer. As everything is designed around 5’6 everything is about 3 inches too long for me. Oh I forgot to mention the ‘elongated sleeves’ on the wool tencel tees! They are indeed extremely elongated, why, is anyones guess. No mention of this on the reviews.

It doesn't always work for my shape and I am 5ft 6. I find I often need to wear calf length boots to balance my shape.
I much prefer their long dresses. It frees me up to wear loads of different footwear!

Snowyowl78 · 22/10/2022 16:12

They were calling the Turrell dress ‘below knee’ but it’s much longer on me, I do love it though and I think a bit shorter and it will be perfect. I think I am going to get someone to take it up by about 5 inches, is this sacrilege?!

I have also deduced that the peaks print dress is much bigger than the 12 is in the previous iterations of the easy dress.

dudsville · 22/10/2022 18:27

I often think when something is described as knee length, how can they know? It may be what they envisage, but we come in a range of shapes!
