That dress looks great on you @Saurus72

My fairisle socks are lovely, I think I have the other colour way to @faustina

Liking my paper garland, especially the teeny bells on one end!

Not tried the jumper yet and the brown belt is lovely but a Christmas present from my daughter, so I can’t have that yet 😂

Laska2Meryls · 05/11/2022 18:53

@AmethystMoonShine I hadn't noticed the bells ! Cute ...

@Saurus72 - that dress looks beautiful on you

I don't suppose anyone has the anthracite padded coat from a few seasons back do they? Or have reasons why they tried it on and hated it?

Countmeout · 06/11/2022 08:43

The jumper is fantastic @Noeggsontoast wonderful skills.
That dress is lovely on you @Saurus72

Love hearing about all your purchases. Fingers crossed for an archive sale as I think they’re often the best.

@faustinaI don’t have that coat but looked at it in John Lewis. I felt the blackish colour would very quickly become shabby due to the type of fabric so didn’t even try it on.. Don’t know if that was the case for anyone who did buy it.
Has your Cos coat arrived? I didn’t buy it as I was on holiday when all sizes were in stock and I didn’t need it but then was sorry I’d missed it, so have managed to pick one up when it popped into stock again. I’m dubious about the size I ordered and wondering what size you went for and how you found the fit. Mine hasn’t even been dispatched yet , they’re very slow.

ScottishMouse · 06/11/2022 08:47

@faustina, do you mean the one from last winter, that is similar to this winter’s green one? If so, I tried it on and it was overwhelmingly enormous, even in the smallest size. I am only 5’2”, so I think it would have been better on someone taller, but it was big everywhere, and I am not usually the smallest size in tops/dresses/knitwear etc at Toast.

Noeggsontoast · 06/11/2022 09:49

@Countmeout thank you. I've worn it out this weekend and I did receive a couple of compliments which is always nice.

@Saurus72 I love that dress on you! I'm hoping to get to the Cambridge store next week to have a pootle round. Good to hear they're well stocked as often I make the trip and leave disappointed as the pieces I'd like to see haven't been in stock.

faustina · 06/11/2022 11:43

@Countmeout and @ScottishMouse - thanks for the Toast coat info - it seems impossible to see a pic of someone actually wearing it - so annoying

@Countmeout - the Cos green coat finally arrived here last week in a Small and it's so enormous - not just oversized, which I love, but HUGE. I can see that in the right size it might be lovely - it's a fabulous, weighty, warm thing. The green is a bit pea and ham soup green, but not is a bad way It think - it was difficult to tune out the hugeness to work out. I might stalk a smaller size, as they do come in and out of stock regularly, but like you say, it's a very long process from start to finish. Which size are you waiting for? If you want a pic of how big the small is, just ask as it isn't being collected til tomorrow

Countmeout · 06/11/2022 12:41

Thank you @faustina . Useful info.
I ordered small (only size available at the time) but had a feeling xs was probably right as I had got a summer coat from Arket (same group isn’t it) and ended up keeping the xs. I think you are a size smaller than me. You might be the same height - is it very long on you? I was attracted to it because of the decent wool content .( and the fear of never seeing a coat I like again , the price isn’t bad compared to other places either.)

faustina · 06/11/2022 14:08

@Countmeout - their sizing is huge - have already sent back a jumper which was too big, and yet I have ordered shorts from there which had to be returned for a larger size, and my bottom half is smaller than my top half. I'm 5'4' and it is way too long, you're right

I'm also despairing about finding a coat! Uniqlo are usually quite nice, but nothing in green or navy this year and also their wool content has gone right down. I bought a nice herringbone coat from Aligne last year but something about the lining makes everything I'm wearing static-y when I take it off

Stoic123 · 06/11/2022 14:15

It wouldn't be winter without @faustina's hunt for a coat 😀

faustina · 06/11/2022 14:30

@Stoic123 - haha! I found the most amazing one on Thrift - Burberry, 100% wool with the spare buttons still attached in a little bag, but again, way too big, so my sons are going to arm wrestle for it (it was a men's coat mis-labelled). None of them get wasted in the end!

TheChattyRat · 06/11/2022 16:17

When I was on the look out for a coat a few years back I though jigsaw was good with regards to wool content. May have changed now but also the coats can be good value in the sale.

Has anyone bought from Poetry? Lots of lovely looking dresses, might try this one

Noeggsontoast · 05/11/2022 13:08

@faustina that was me. I'd been not looking at this thread so I could have a surprise when my parcel was delivered. Then I thought oh my what if everyone else likes a surprise like I do! Lol

@ToastCosILoveIt I looked at those jumpers and are lovely. Colours were too similar to another jumper so I didn't purchase.

I did buy this jumper from white stuff - it totally reminds me of the current men's Toast fair isle jumper which I love- wish they had it in a women's size.

I love this jumper. Totally tempted. Love the colour combo. A few things on WS that I actually like this season!

Beautiful dress and a more reasonable price than Toast.
I have bought from its sister brand Wrap. I find their things are fairly good quality.

Ah this thread’s sprung back to life, lots of lovely looking purchases! I went to the Cambridge shop today specifically to (re) try the green velvet pinafore and some other dresses. I’ve now confirmed 100% the velvet pinafore isn’t for me - too ‘much’, I just don’t think I’d wear it enough.

I did buy the Etched floral dress which I’m really pleased with. I have last year’s one which was an apricot Scandi-style floral and I just love the style. It’s super comfy and easy to wear but looks like you’ve made an effort - the perfect combination.

The shop was really well-stocked today and the assistants were lovely, really friendly.

Stunning print!

Stoic123 · 06/11/2022 18:16

@Snowyowl78 - like the quality of poetry.

I have to be careful of gaping buttons as they cut a neater bodice than Toast and I'm quite busty.

Snowyowl78 · 06/11/2022 18:33

I read that on the reviews, so I’m going to go with my normal high street size. I’m dithering because they charge £5 delivery, I hate paying for delivery!

Countmeout · 06/11/2022 18:35

I’m 5’4” too @faustina , looks like it’ll be going back and it hasn’t even arrived !

lordloveadog · 07/11/2022 11:21

I love that Poetry site! I had never heard of it. They go up to large sizes, but what is the cut like? The models are all very bustless, so it's hard to imagine how it would work on more generous figures. Beautiful clothes - almost nothing I wouldn't leap into, if it fitted.

lordloveadog · 07/11/2022 11:34

I finally got to the UK last week and was able to try on a whole load of Toast purchases. In the end I kept three dresses, all of which I think are beautiful.

The ones I kept were:

Crinkled Cotton Gingham Dress, which is quite oversized but still right in my usual size, just with a generous-looking cut. Beautiful fabric.

Embroidered Cotton Kaftan Dress, which is a silly price but just lovely and go-everywhere. When it initially sold out I realized I was very disappointed so decided to try it and couldn't send it back.

Peaks Print Easy Dress, which will wear for restaurants, events. I have an orange version from a sale a year or two ago which is a bit shorter. I think this is an even better cut. Very good on curvy figure.

I sent back the Check Cotton Cashmere Dress because the cut was very unflattering on me and the chest gaped. The fabric is nice, though. Also the Gathered Turrell Check Dress, which I thought was a dead cert because I have a browny version from this summer which I love, but this was vastly less flattering and I didn't like the material at all.

I rather liked the Geometric Cotton Jacquard Skirt, beautiful fabric and embroidery, but teenagers made me send it back. It is very peasant-wear and would need to be worn by someone who can carry that off without just looking like a plump peasant. The fit is the tighter-waist type, which is good for me because waists usually too big if hips fit. So usual size if you like the tighter waisted cuts.

Now I must not buy anything more for a very long time.

Saurus72 · 07/11/2022 14:10

@Noeggsontoast i love that jumper, I never think to look in the men’s stuff even though I know it’s often better quality.

@lordloveadog What a lovely big haul, yes sir on your hands for a while and enjoy what you’ve bought.

Thanks for the nice comments about my dress, already planning where to wear it - it won’t be kept ‘for best’.

My fair isle socks and kindred gift just arrived, really pleased with them both. When Toast do it right they really do it right!

lordloveadog · 07/11/2022 14:14

Also the yellow dress is just right on you, @Saurus72 .

And I loved the extra embroidery on that jumper - lifted it into new league.

I really need to make an account instead of just ordering as guest so might start to get kindred gifts.

Countmeout · 07/11/2022 15:59

Super haul @lordloveadog .

I am totally in love with the box that came with the kindred gift. I love boxes and baskets. Even came in a cardboard box unusually instead of an envelope.

I ordered a coat from Poetry a while back. Had to return it. It was a bit meh . Not the quality just the whole look. And I hate paying for delivery too especially on a dearer item. Is there a shop anywhere? I often think some things look nice but unwilling to pay to try on.

I’ve weakened and bought the White Stuff jumper to try (as the Cos coat which is still not dispatched obvs is going back) I love the colours. They also had jersey dungarees in the sale which I bought and returned previously as I felt I’d not get the wear out of them full price. I love theToast lofty jacquard yolk sweater except it looked so long on the video . And it’s much more expensive.
