Best low cost shampoo ?

I seem to get through loads - DS16 has loads of hair and showers though so could explain it 🤣. I was pondering Tresemme shampoo as I have their conditioner and it's good enough for day to day
Tried the super cheap apple and raspberry ones from Aldi and not a fan. I like L'Oréal colour one - red bottle but it seems to go so quickly.
Any gems out there? I miss the old herbal essences that smelled divine and was pretty cheap !

I asked my hairdresser this, and he said Aussie Miracles. I like the Maui ones that Sainsbury's do, and they're often on special.

Personally what I do is go on ebay and buy expensive ones for a much cheaper price. It's worth it.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 30/09/2022 15:45

Alberto Balsam. £1 a bottle and it's great.

Arenanewbie · 30/09/2022 15:45

what type of hair have you got? Mine is fine and flat and I have to wash hair frequently. I’ve tried
Aldi (posher one) - NO,
L’Oréal red bottle - NO,
Simple gentle care - still no.
At the moment I have a huge bottle of Pantene Pro-V classic clean along with fancier Charles Worrington one. Pantene is not very exciting but okeish, haven’t found anything better.

FromageRouge · 30/09/2022 15:46

Boots coconut.

Leakingroofagain · 30/09/2022 15:48

Switch to more expensive no sls/sulphate ones and then wash it less often. I was washing every other day and now I can halve that and the bottle lasts so much longer.

alwaystrainers · 30/09/2022 17:25

Very fine hair with highlights. Wash every other day right now.
When you say eBay do you mean people auction stuff they don't like, or something else?
Thanks all. Keep them coming
I like L'Oréal red but hated the clay ones for greasy roots
Like the branded Aussie but they're still a bit pricey for me currently when my son is getting through so
Much of it ! Sadly only one bathroom. Maybe I should hide stuff?! Grin

This is what I've done. Sulphate free has been a revelation.

alwaystrainers · 30/09/2022 17:35

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant any SLS free reccs? Thanks!

Haha dd2 seems to ask for a new shampoo on the shopping every bloody week!
i just buy the big bottles of tresemme for her but recently she’s been saying it’s not keeping her hair fresh… I miss vosene 😂

WhoppingBigBackside · 30/09/2022 17:53

Herbal Essences, from £1 shop or the Schwartzkopf ones.

LizBuin · 30/09/2022 17:59

We get the big bottles of Tresemme and pour them into a wall-mounted dispenser. I also cut the 'empty' bottle open and there's always a few more days left in the bottom.

EachandEveryone · 30/09/2022 18:05

You need to go to savers and get him his own cheap big bottle.

meateatingveggie · 30/09/2022 18:07

Alberto Balsam.. the raspberry one.

mantlepiece · 30/09/2022 18:12

I like Alberto balsam raspberry shampoo and coconut conditioner. However I do use Liz Earle hair oil before drying. Yes, that is expensive, but it lasts ages as you only use 2 pumps per use.

I think this shampoo doesn’t result in build up and lankness. The hair oil gives a shiny and healthy look.

OldTinHat · 30/09/2022 18:16

I use Tresemme. Cheap, cheerful, lasts ages, does the job and is better imo than the Alberto Balsam apple effort.

Yes. Get him his own.

alwaystrainers · 30/09/2022 18:46

Oh DS has had his own but sadly likes his products (no idea where he gets it from 🤫) and I think will use whatever he sees.
I'll try the Alberto one - it's cheap enough to take a punt
I also need to investigate shampoo bars. Though DS used my last one in days thinking it was soap 🤣

I love the smell of Vosene, takes me right back. Can't use it on my coloured hair now as it strips it.
Yesterday I was looking at sniffing brazenlyvegan strawberry shampoo & conditioner in B&M Bargains. It was heaven! A quid each, but the containers weren't very large 🤔

KirstenBlest · 30/09/2022 18:56

Get the soap bar but remove it from the shower area after you use it. Buy cheap shampoo for DS. I like the Lidl Cien ones.

If you leave nice stuff in the bathroom it will be used liberally by other bathroom users

Silverstreaks · 30/09/2022 19:05

Savers sell XHC shampoos and conditioners. They cost a pound. They are SLS free and silicone free. My teen uses them and so do I. The strawberry smells terrible, the banana is not so bad.

TheChosenTwo · 30/09/2022 19:11

@Justleaveitblankthen I didn’t even realise Vosene was still going!
id forgotten dd used to like the lush shampoo bars, perhaps I’ll pick her up another one. She has a separate shower to me so it’s not like she’s using all my nice stuff but I swear every week (it’s probably more like every2 or 3 weeks but I suppose it’s always something!) she’s asking for more shampoo!
I’m not sure Vosene was ever good for anyone’s hair, my mum just used to buy it for everyone to use so I just know it must have been cheap!

SnoopyNoseTits · 30/09/2022 22:08

Another vote for Alberto balsam here. Also Poundland shampoo bars are actually really god, I was dubious and was surprised!

catfunk · 30/09/2022 22:26

Aldi and Lidl shampoo ruined my hair!
I now use faith in nature usually half price in health food shops it's lovely

AsAnyFuleKno · 30/09/2022 22:28

Lidl 'Cien' isn't too bad.

Justleaveitblankthen · 30/09/2022 22:40

@TheChosenTwo Ah, I thought your daughter was just refusing to use Vosene now 🙂
Yep, still available and all the supermarkets/Wilkos etc do their own copies.
I have special hair needs so treat myself to Kerastase, but only use the tiniest amount.
The rest of the family are happy with Alberto Balsam Teatree or apple versions.
