My wardrobe needs a revamp and I have this image of a more grown up style without being frumpy.

I really like this dress, but it's expensive to me and will have to earn it's keep. (I also like the idea of fewer, better items).

So, I see it with sparkly heels for Christmas parties, chunky navy or cream boots and a wool biker jacket for the pub, heeled navy boots for a fancy dinner in winter and flat cream sandals (or even trainers?) as we move into Spring. More formal shoes or sandals for fancier spring/summer events.

What do you think? Or will it be something I like but rarely wear?

If it makes a difference, I'm 52, tall, blonde, size 10.

I think it’s a party dress and you’ll look overdressed at the pub, etc.

it is gorgeous though.

YennefersDress · 30/09/2022 13:16

I agree it would be a bit dressy for the pub but its a beautiful dress OP

SheWoreYellow · 30/09/2022 13:18

The model in the photo is 5’10” so won’t it be too long?
And I agree it will look a bit much for the pub.

Backtonormalnow · 30/09/2022 13:19

I would personally only wear that to a wedding. I can’t see it dressed down with boots for the pub as the material is so fine.

BeautifulElephant · 30/09/2022 13:19

I don't think navy would go with it because of the black.

LadyWithLapdog · 30/09/2022 13:20

I don’t think you’ll get that much wear out of it. It is so distinctive that you can only wear it so many times in the same circles (if that matters to you!) and I wouldn’t wear it to the pub.

It's not black, it's navy?

Yes, I didn't consider it at first, beautiful dress but not useful to me, but their bunf suggests espridrilles?

Wedding or new year’s eve party I think. Lovely but you’ll wear it rarely!

I am quite tall, but not that tall. They must think they have plenty of women who could wear it, but admittedly clothes do seem to be getting longer. In the last few years some things are too long for me, when I eas used to having the oppostie problem.

Oh. Everyone else must love it, it's out of stock in almost all sizes anyway 😆

To me that's a wedding or cocktail party dress. Too dressy to be dressed down in my opinion.

theresnolimits · 30/09/2022 13:26

Lovely dress. Totally not suitable for the pub. All that cream will look crazy at winter events. Also, once seen, never forgotten - you won't want to keep turning up in the same outfit.

Personally I think separates are your friend. A slim ankle grazer black trouser can be dressed up with heel and dressed down with boots - sweaters, sparkly tops etc. Much better value and more versatile.

NeverWearingHeelsAgain · 30/09/2022 13:28

I’d wear to a nicer bar but possibly not a local pub. If you want a smarter look what about a similar pleated skirt? Easier to dress up and down. You can certainly wear with boots and a chunky jumper or cardigan for more casual and a more fitted or lighter top with heels.

FlounderingFruitcake · 30/09/2022 13:28

I suspect it won’t earn it’s keep. It’s lovely but very very dressy so if you have several weddings coming up it could be a good investment but it’s way overkill for the pub and probably for most Christmas dos unless yours are very formal.

blockpavingismynightmare · 30/09/2022 13:31

OP I much prefer the Nancy print dress at £129 on the same page. You will get more wear out of that. It's lovely

PorkPieForStarters · 30/09/2022 13:31

It's gorgeous and sounds like you have some nice ideas for mixing it up and dressing up or down, I say go for it!

I have so many dresses that only leave my wardrobe once or twice a year (at most) which is such a shame. I might try and incorporate them more into my everyday wardrobe - life's too short for boring clothes/what other people think!

I've already ordered that! but I see that more as a work dress that could be worn for the pub.

I do need a party outfit, but I'm trying to find something that could do a bit more than that iyswim

It's polyester - is that an issue for you?
To be fair, if you're a tall blonde size 10 you probably look good in most things! Go for it 😊

Polyester is an issue. I don't buy work clothes that are polyester, but I think something like this is OK? It's really hard to buy more dressy things without polyester (unless silk which has its own issues)

I really like it but think boots would ruin it and think it's a very difficult dress to dress down much.

It an event, fancy meal out, special occasion dress imo. I love it but am too short and pale for it to suit me!

Yes, I have decided to use the best china so to speak. I think all the best dressed people tend toward over rather than under dressing 😆

inappropriateraspberry · 30/09/2022 13:45

Lovely dress, but it's a summer dress. If you wore it to the pub you'd need another layer on the top, way too cold!

Maireas · 30/09/2022 13:45

Yes, polyester is more practical than silk

OldTinHat · 30/09/2022 13:54

Good lord, no! And I say that as a 51yr old woman! Step away from that dress, step far, far away!!!
