This discussion around sustainable fashion really is food for thought. Early this year I was making a conscious effort to be discerning around purchases in this way, then summer rolled around and I fell off track. There's something g about summer and fast fashion...
Turns out though, my more considered purchases have stayed firm favourites, whilst a lot of my quick Zara, etc buys probably won't be worn again next summer.

Today, though, far from perfect...

And/Or sweater
Anthropologie skirt
Schuh chunky Chelsea boots

I had a look at Uniqlo suits (maybe too cheap looking for our working environment - might get some unpleasant hints from senior colleague(s)), PLST (it's sort of a pricier brand owned by Uniqlo; they had a lovely wine suit which was sold out, everything else looked meh), Gap-Banana Republic (nothing caught my eye here), H&M (saw some lovely basic cigarette trousers), Japanese brand Aoyama (100 ways to look just like any random Japanese woman in the office) and Boden.
That's a really lovely jacket @Sickoffamilydrama , I think I own exactly the same one, but in navy! I'd love to wear such a bold pink suit, but I think it might be difficult to pull it off in our Asian work environment. Maybe I could get away with it, people tend to overlook some things if you are non-Asian... Or maybe not.
I remember getting a warning from one of my senior colleagues about 5-7 years ago when I wore something ditsy to the office, as the younger you are, the more restricted are your clothing choices, I was supposed to wear plain colors only. A couple of years ago I wore a red shirt dress to work (wasn't supposed to meet any clients that day) and still got some comments.
I'm currently looking at these two jackets from Boden, most of my office clothes are blue, so they might be a good choice. I love the ditsy print more, however if there are no matching trousers (couldn't find them on the website), it will be hard to match it with all the clothes I have. As for the striped one, I like it less, but I have similar striped trousers from Boden and they might look like a proper suit when worn together.
What do you think?Blush

Probably made a mistake wearing beige jeans on such a rainy day! Everything I’m wearing is old! But comfortable

jumper: Sézane 2020
jeans: Levi via eBay last year

I definitely try harder these days to buy less and better. My daughter is even more considered and is much poorer than me! She is in fact about to embark on a Phd which has study of fast fashion (at source) as an element. So I am preparing to be educated!
We have a fabulous new (?!) vintage shop in our town, run by two ladies who really do go the extra mile to source great stuff at reasonable prices, and get to know their customers. So I'm lucky.
Playing tennis this morning (in near gale force winds). Nike skirt, Hoka trainers, Brooks top.

ive given up on sophistication

bendmeoverbackwards · 21/10/2022 09:36

@Cardigansalltheway I love your green jumper, gorgeous colour.

Sooverthemill · 21/10/2022 09:47

@OrderConfirmation good link, I use that website to check out new to me retailers.
@Puddinandpie its not snobbery to care about how clothes are produced and the treatment of workers. Buying fast fashion brands second hand at least doesn't contribute to the wealth of the retailer but personally I rarely do because they just aren't good quality and won't meet my 30 wear's minimum rules. Cost per wear May end up higher too if they fall apart. It is all about personal choices but also personal responsibility.

I am not a regular on this thread and that really wasn’t my intention at all. I lurk occasionally and I think you all have great style and I appreciate the outfits you put together.

Obviously it’s a personal choice to wear whatever you want, for me the issue is promoting Shein and suggesting/encouraging that it’s normal for people to shop there and that there’s no issue with it. Our planet is f*d and we’ve no chance of improving things if we continue to buy fast fashion. There are clearly other huge and important changes that need to happen too, but this is S&B.

Puddinandpie · 21/10/2022 10:33

@OrderConfirmation so basically you are reiterating what I've just said which is that I can be on this thread just not state who I purchase my clothes from because it doesn't conform to where you all buy your clothes from!! Wow!!

toucaninjapan · 21/10/2022 10:37

Re ethical fashion (or many other topics), since everybody’s commenting on it, I have the "let him who is without sin cast the first stone" approach. Nobody is perfect.
Caring is important, but it’s really hard to judge sometimes, isn’t it. For each article saying A is white you will find another article saying A is black. Each respective point of view presented with legit looking data backing up their stance.
I remember seeing several weeks ago on one of the Sezane groups someone posting an article about how B-Corp certificates are bought (apparently there “might” be lots of corruption in the process; Sezane is B Corp certified) and calling out Sezane on the Mexico scandal with “exploiting” (it’s a quote) indigenous cultures and paying around $10 to the elderly woman who took part in their photo shoot. Sezane gave their own explanation of the event in Mexico, defending their stance.
God is the only one who knows what’s the truth and what’s not.
I believe in doing our best to care about environment (I’m making my attempts here, but I’m not perfect and I probably have lots of slips here and there), and I believe in delivering this approach with kindness and consideration (I also think it's a more efficient way to make your opinion be heard and appreciated). People's feelings are also important.

Anyway, back to OOTD.
I saw somebody say that stripes and flowery patterns go well together, so I decided to give it a try. Not sure if it really does look good, but here goes:
T-shirt & cardigan - Sezane
Jeans - Boden

I'm usually a lurker on this thread and really appreciate everyone's outfits👋
But to ostricize people because of their clothes brand is really wrong, not cool

Pashionforfassion · 21/10/2022 10:46

That was aimed at @OrderConfirmation

Puddinandpie · 21/10/2022 10:46

@toucaninjapan thank you that's basically what I've been trying to say well put! Love the outfit by tye way super cute 😍

PalacePaper · 21/10/2022 11:05

@Puddinandpie you seem to have taken my comment about the documentary as a personal attack on you. It wasn't. It's interesting reading your comments as I think we probably agree on a lot of things.

To everyone else - sorry this has caused such a massive derail, it wasn't my intent at all.

Still on holiday so no photo - still wearing joggers and a sweatshirt...

Sooverthemill · 21/10/2022 12:02

@Puddinandpie I probably do have fast fashion brands in my wardrobe and will continue to wear them or pass them on if I find I don’t reach for them. However I honestly don’t think I’ve bought from any of the brands identified at the beginning of the pandemic as refusing to pay for goods produced in developing countries ie India, Bangladesh and this leaving workers starving. I did a huge amount of research for myself and decided enough was enough. I am not making this a personal attack on you, I’ve said it’s about personal choice and responsibility. I am unhappy buying from brands such as shein and haven’t even done so. I’ve also never bought from topshop or primark for example ( I’ve never lived near a big shopping centre). This thread is about celebrating our love of the clothes we wear. There are other threads on which we can discuss politics and ethics if you wish.

if I’ve come across as a ‘mean girl’ I apologise.

@toucaninjapan id love your source about B Corp accreditation being corrupt. The Sézane incident is being investigated by B Corp at present, I was a co-signer of a request that they do so. You can DM me

I really didn’t mean to upset you @Puddinandpie and I didn’t suggest that you don’t say where your clothes are from. Obviously that’s a big part of this thread. By ‘promoting’ I was referring to some other comments made on the thread.

I’m not a mean girl and I’m certainly not perfect. Also ND, so perhaps comments can come out not quite as intended.

@Sooverthemill " This thread is about celebrating our love of the clothes we wear. There are other threads on which we can discuss politics and ethics if you wish." I didnt bring politics or ethics into this thread @PalacePaper did!!!??? And then you jumped on the bandwagon of persecuting people who buy their clothes from those retailers, when you are clearly a hypocrite because you have just stated you have clothes in your wardrobe from those retailers who exploit workers! "Those in glass houses" people can buy clothes whenever and from whatever brand or shop they like its not for you lot to decide, so just stop, stop with all this bullying and hypocrisy it's absolutely ridiculous🤚🤚🤚
