@Sooverthemill - it’s still raining in Cyprus too. We’ve had very little sun since arriving last weekend. But lots and lots of wind and rain.

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 10:24

@Purplecatshopaholic @Puddinandpie your outfits are GOALS, can't decide which one I like more! Simply fab!
@Softpebbles skinnies look fantastic on your never-ending legs!
@Cardigansalltheway love your office outfit, very stylish.

Booked my tickets for a business trip, I'll be away to Korea in about a week. It's for 3 days only and I won't need a suit for it, but I might have 2 more trips to Korea in November and the setting will be more formal. Currently contemplating whether I need to add something more formal-looking to my wardrobe, while taking into account that Korea is going to be much colder than Tokyo. Hmm.
I've already ordered some slim straight cords from Boden's sale section earlier today as I think they will be perfect for informal meetings with clients unlike my collection of jeans (and they will be warm enough & my ankles won't be bare in them). Now looking at Boden's jackets which are on sale, I might need to get something to fit under a slim-fitting winter coat... @Sickoffamilydrama absolutely rocks Zara suits, too bad through all these years I couldn't buy any single thing at Zara, I feel like my shape just doesn't suit their clothes. :( Boden's stuff fits me perfectly though, especially trousers, the length, the fit, everything is just right. Maybe I should take a look at their Richmonds, but don't want to pay full price...
Nursery run in H&M jumper and Uniqlo jeans.

Raining on holiday here too @OublietteBravo - hope you get some sunshine before you leave.

Sorry to hear about your hamster @Sooverthemill. I love your Eribe cardigan, so beautiful.

Fabulous blouse @Cardigansalltheway

Also love the colour of your jumper @toucaninjapan, it looks a beautiful purple on the photo. You have some lovely knitwear 😍

Has anyone seen the new channel 4 documentary about Shein? I watched it this morning. Even with what I already knew about the issues with fast fashion it was an eye-opener - and it does sound like they're even worse than other retailers in terms of the environment and conditions for workers. Also very interesting to hear how their marketing very deliberately drives customers to buy more than they otherwise would have done.

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 14:28

@toucaninjapan awww thank you that comment has made my day (I'm feeling crappy today, passed out on the toilet this morning of all the places🙈) no pics I'm in joggers and jumper

Sooverthemill · 20/10/2022 15:07

@PalacePaper thank you! It’s a firm favourite. And yes I’ve seen chunks of the documentary and was appalled even though I already knew about their terrible practices. I don’t buy from any fast fashion brands any more vector what we learned so quickly in the early days of the pandemic and I had already read a lot about the inhumane Chinese clothing factories. I’d rather have fewer clothes or buy second hand ( which I have always done my whole life). Just shocking I wish they would be banned from selling here

Sooverthemill · 20/10/2022 15:08

Typing fail ‘vector ‘ was typed by me as ‘following’!

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 15:19

@PalacePaper that's very interesting about their marketing strategy as it definitely works I've just done another 2 shein hauls... woops!🤣
Also shein essentially is an enormous manufacturer that does supply other shops, all the ones lots of people love and purchase from e.g asos, boohoo, isawitfirst, nasty gal, cider, next, monki, koi, mango, oasis, h&m, simple retro, knit mix even the little boutiques that you think your buying something unique from stock shein items and many many more, we are all just very oblivious because they dont stamp all their products with their shein tags for that reason, it's unfortunately the world we live in and that's just how it is sadly! What I can't stand is throwaway fashion, where you wear an item once and then discard, no matter how cheap an item is at least get the wear out of it and don't buy with the intention of just wearing once either that winds me right up!(climbing down of soap box now)😁

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 15:43

@Sooverthemill unfortunately the prices at shein are superb and people won't buy something from another shop for x amount when they know they can get the same thing at shein for alot cheaper, because unfortunately that is the state of affairs with regards to people's bank balances today with rising energy prices and cost of living, families unable to feed their children, their not really worried about whose making the clothes but how much they are paying for them!! Gosh this is meant to be a lighthearted happy thread not full of doom and gloom or judgement!

Sooverthemill · 20/10/2022 16:18

@Puddinandpie yes I understand that many people can’t afford clothes except for fast fashion but my argument is that I personally would rather not buy clothes new than buy from any of those brands ( many of whom I simply haven’t heard of tbh). I’m the early days of the pandemic we all learned a lot about how appalling the employment practices were of the fast fashion brands and finally we discovered who they all were. I try not to buy any item manufactured in china because of their appalling practices . People do what they do and I can’t legislate again people buying fast fashion, sadly

I'm not sure how to link but the above is a great read very insightful @PalacePaper and @Sooverthemill

Sooverthemill · 20/10/2022 17:38

Yes I do know many retailers use China for manufacturing . I have antipathy to buying cheap clothes made by slaves. So I check where items are manufactured. No system is perfect but I do check up in the brands I buy from which is why I concentrate on B Corp retailers. I just think we could all make a difference in a small way

Sickoffamilydrama · 20/10/2022 17:39

@toucaninjapan are Boden doing these suits for delivery to you as they might work?

What are you wearing today? Autumn 22
Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 18:03

@Sickoffamilydrama that suit is gorgeous is it velvet or cord?

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 18:06

@toucaninjapan also forgot to say that jumper is lush!!

ShadowsShadowsShadows · 20/10/2022 18:11

Hi all, haven't posted since the new thread as life's really busy atm but lovely to see so many gorgeous autumn outfits.

I used to buy a lot from SHEIN but I've stopped since learning about their practices. I am on a really low MA loan and minimum wage part time work so we really struggle but I've found I get much better quality shopping on Vinted and EBay now for the same prices I'd have spent on shops like Shein. I feel a lot happier buying second hand and often the quality is a lot better. I think even people with very limited budgets are a lot more conscious about where their clothes are manufactured and the processes involved and there's a huge rise in second hand clothes buying which is really positive.

EnoBaby · 20/10/2022 18:37

Love that outfit @Cardigansalltheway!

My photo is even worse than usual today, you can barely see any detail.

@EnoBaby love those 👢
@OublietteBravo did my rain dance work then?? Its been been hammering it down here all day!🤣
That skirt is gorgeous 😍

PalacePaper · 20/10/2022 19:39

@Puddinandpie I think most people do care who is making their clothes and wouldn't want to buy clothes which have been made by workers who are being exploited. Its not always easy to avoid fast fashion and we all have to make our choices, but the facts about fast fashion remain. Part of the problem is that these companies encourage us all to think we need so many more clothes than we did even 10 years ago, so it can feel like you have to buy lots and buy cheap instead of saving up and waiting to buy fewer things which are better quality, will last and have been ethically made. @Sooverthemill and @ShadowsShadowsShadows I agree second hand is a great way to go, I've had some lovely items from charity shops.

Anyway, back to outfits...love the boiler suit @EnoBaby I wish they suited me but I don't think they do - I may try again.

@OublietteBravo I really love that skirt. Glad you've got a warm evening

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 20:14

@PalacePaper that's where we will have to agree to disagree I think a lot of people don't care about where they get their clothes, they care that they like it and it's of use at the time of buying and the right price, that's why shein is the biggest retailer in the world! Also buying second hand is great but you are still buying the brands that are exploiting all these workers ( a huge range of brands), I just think that secretly it's just snobbery with regards to where you are purchasing your clothes from, it's like being back in the playground!

Sickoffamilydrama · 20/10/2022 20:36

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 18:03

@Sickoffamilydrama that suit is gorgeous is it velvet or cord?

Think it's cord.

Puddinandpie · 20/10/2022 20:44

@Sickoffamilydrama oh no i love cord, @toucaninjapan you have to get that suit😍

OrderConfirmation · 21/10/2022 06:41

@Puddinandpie i think it’s discrediting to assume that people don’t care/are willfully ignorant about where their clothes come from. I don’t have a huge budget myself, but I try to buy fewer things less often. Shein and the like really are the worst ethically and environmentally. It’s not snobbery, it’s fact.

this is a useful tool to use before buying clothes
