Are these glasses too 'attention seeking'?

zagaraz · 24/09/2022 11:52

I've worn contacts throughout my late teens and early 20s and after an incident decided to switch to glasses and they have been a part of my style now.

I currently have cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1140/7330/products/oliver-peoples-0OV5389D__1666_030A-eyeglasses_2000x.jpg?v=1610662570 and images.ray-ban.com/is/image/RayBan/8053672430721__002.png?impolicy=RB_Product&width=1024&bgc=%23f2f2f2.

I work in a tech company where there is no dress code and many of us wears birkenstocks so being 'professional' is not really an issue. Saw these the other day cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1140/7330/products/ScreenShot2020-05-27at9.18.51AM_2000x.png?v=1590596646 and I love them! Tried them on and I think I look good in them but am worried if they're a bit too 'look at me' IYSWIM?

I'm not very edgy still wise, mostly look like i.pinimg.com/236x/58/66/3d/58663da8791d0f98622dceb5924d9cfd--denim-jeans-blue-jeans.jpg half the time and i.pinimg.com/564x/e2/9c/ab/e29cab0d46945597bb0380c1fec7132b.jpg the other half the time.

What's the verdict?

Oh no!! Wear them!! I bought my first pair of more statement glasses a few years ago and a ‘friend’ called them ‘interesting’….

I ignored her, wore them anyway and now I bloody love my more distinctive glasses (and they’re actually pretty tame really!)

Some people won’t be content unless you’re in their box of bland with them. Wear your ‘interesting’ glasses with pride. I’m sure you look amazing.

Oh bless you. Thank you!! I love them!

Epicstorm · 24/09/2022 12:34

I was expecting you to show us something far more Timmy Mallet. They’re not my style but if they’re yours they’re fine.

obsessedwithsleep · 24/09/2022 12:38

You're a wizard, Harry.

I actually like them though.

BertaHoon · 24/09/2022 12:41

They are funky. Rock those specs!

Zeeza · 24/09/2022 12:41

I disagree with people here that they say they aren't that out there. I think they are quite a statement. That isn't a criticism. I think it will go well with your understated style as you described it.

But equally I think if someone had a much more fussy style I'm not sure I would like them, and it would be a bit attention seeking. I dunno, some sort of steam punk woman in a full bussell and top hat or some such.

I think most of us can get away with one or two interesting things at a time only, although some fashion queen's manage more.

Doubleraspberry · 24/09/2022 12:43

I think they’re fab! I was expecting Su Pollard frames (which I also think can be fab).

No one would blink at those where I work, which is a fairly ‘normal’ workplace.

oceanbleu · 24/09/2022 12:43

I like them! Mine are quite similar but yours slightly more edgy.

dudsville · 24/09/2022 12:46

I agree with a pp that I was expecting something much more out there. These are not too attention seeking OP.

knittingaddict · 24/09/2022 12:46

I thought they were going to be bright red with sequins. Those are far from attention seeking.

SocksAndTheCity · 24/09/2022 12:50

I'm glad to read the later posts as I was starting to wonder if I was looking at the same picture as everyone else - I see a pair of very plain round wire frames? I like the style and I remember I tried a similar pair on but they made me look like Harry Potter 🤣

These are mine (if only for a chance to recommend Bloobloom) bloobloom.com/products/glasses/icon-spectacle 😊

WoooahNelly · 24/09/2022 12:50

Lol I was expecting Dame Edna Everidge glasses they all look fine

deedledeedledum · 24/09/2022 12:58

I love them OP. What make are they?

Tsort · 24/09/2022 12:59

@Zeeza You would dislike someone because you flung their style ‘fussy’ and refer to women as ‘attention seeking’? Or have I misunderstood you? As, if that’s the case, I certainly wouldn’t like you.

Also, it’s bustle.

Shitfather · 24/09/2022 13:04

I love them - they don’t seem too “attention seeking” to me!! I say this as someone who has always worn unusual frames. I don’t give a shit what others think about my glasses (although I have had many complements).

Zeeza · 24/09/2022 13:04

By them I meant glasses.

You have no chill.

Thank you for the correction, it has both improved my life dramatically and made me admire you greatly.

What does "flung their style" mean?

I can see that you would dislike someone if you misunderstood them.

squishee · 24/09/2022 13:05

Round ones seem to be in atm.

flingingmelon · 24/09/2022 13:08

Love them - not attention seeking

AsterixInEngland · 24/09/2022 13:13

That’s not out there at all.
At most a slightly different shape.

can’t see the issue

NaaameChanger · 24/09/2022 13:17

I like them, not attention seeking. My only concern would be how strong your prescription is. My lenses are quite even with the thinnest they can do. I’d get away with your current pair but the lens would be too obvious in the other and scratch my nose.

if that doesn’t apply go for it.

fucap · 24/09/2022 13:30

They are not attention seeking. They aren't really edgy either.
They are just round frames with an extra bit on to make them a bit different.
Everyone is wearing round frames where I am these days (in Central Europe). Even I'm wearing them like the "cool" people and I'm the least cool person ever but I do suit the round frames and really like them.

Just get them!

dizzydizzydizzy · 24/09/2022 13:30

Well I thought they were going to be purple or diamanté or something. The round glassses are fine and not even particularly out there.

mathanxiety · 24/09/2022 13:32

They're very different in shape from the first two. Are you sure they suit your face shape?

GettingStuffed · 24/09/2022 13:49

If they suit you wear them

zagaraz · 24/09/2022 14:22

Maybe 'attention seeking' is the wrong word. Having tried so many frames some definitely stand out more than others (not that there's anything wrong with that but it's not for me) and I love the idea of having these as glasses, for example, but they are way too bold for me so I would never actually buy them!
