If you’re a brunette with fair skin, what’s your favourite lipstick?

I rarely wear lipstick and when I do I always seem to go for very similar neutral colours eg Mac Twig or Velvet Teddy. This week I wore a rose pink lipstick and really liked it so fancy buying a couple of new ones outside my comfort zone! I’ve also never found a red that I think really suits me.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. I have brown hair, blue eyes and very pale skin, never tans.

The No7 lipstick worked by assessing my skin tone and undertone, then looking at the shades of lipstick that would suit that.

I found it quite surprising as it said pale but warm tones- I'd always thought I was cool toned as silver looks much better on me than gold. But the lipstick was perfect.

Following

Dark hair
Pale
Skin green eyes . I love reds . Favourite had been discontinued- max factor chilli had a hint of something else that made my face glow .

I like darker lips , even with nudes I go for darker shades .

WhiskySour83 · 24/09/2022 00:19

Your lipsticks look similar shades to mine. I've got dark hair, fair skin and blue eyes and I LOVE MAC Tropic Tonic. It's more for going out than everyday use but I always get compliments when I wear it.

florenceandthemac · 24/09/2022 00:20

Mac Viva Glam II

Twilightstarbright · 24/09/2022 07:10

@TattiePants i dab it and blot unless I want a more dramatic look.

QuebecBagnet · 24/09/2022 07:11

Mac Spirit. Which is similar to Twig.

over2021 · 24/09/2022 07:29

I wear Twig and Velvet Teddy too but love a red- D for Danger is my go to.

AnneBoIeyn · 24/09/2022 09:28

MAC Retro for day (it can be blotted right down or used like a stain, but also is really buildable if I want a more dramatic look). MAC Pretty Pleats Powder Kiss for evening which is really dramatic but is softened by the lovely powder matte finish. Pretty Pleats is currently on sale on the MAC website too, only about £13 I think.

AnneBoIeyn · 24/09/2022 09:31

For red, MAC Chili which is a really flattering deep orange red. Most reds pull too pink on me and pink looks awful on me for some reason, so I usually go for something more brick/brown/orange toned.

Charlotte TiLbury Gracefully Pink is my go to everyday pink colour.Ive got browny hair, pale skin and blue eyes. The CT assistant tried various shades on me and it was noticeable instantly how good that was on me compared to some others well worth a trip to them

PinkArt · 24/09/2022 15:53

I would have suggested Ruby Woo! Those bluey reds work with my colouring.
I love Bobbi Brown bare raspberry as a sheer colour. L'Oreal liquid lipstick has a hot pink that I can't recall the name of which leans in to the drama of dark hair and pale skin. They also do a pinky red that's in the Ruby Woo kind of ball park. I'm looking for a long lasting raspberry pink, that's the holy grail.

FreshFaceTime · 25/09/2022 06:36

I've been obsessed with lipstick since covid/masks made me realise my lips are my best feature! I'm also a brunette with fair(ish) skin.

I quite like Ruby Woo but must admit I don't reach for it very often. I do like a bit of colour though. I can't get on with nudes - Velvet Teddy & Twig do nothing for me. There's a darker shade of Pillow Talk that I can just about get away with, but I think I'm too warm-toned for it really.

Revlon Fire & Ice is gorgeous (iconic and cheap! - about £4 on Amazon)
MAC Lady Danger is a nice bold orange/red (have just noticed that I've LOST my Lady Danger! 😡😭)
This Dior one in Diorama is lovely, I've worn it loads over summer...

I bought 3 Lisa Eldridge lipsticks after seeing them raved about on here (couldn't narrow it down to just one shade) and 2 of them snapped from the base on first use. I've never had that happen with any lipstick cheap or high end before so will not be buying more. Can't be arsed to send them back so just apply with a lip brush and make do, but v annoying.

Not a fan of Bobbi Brown lipsticks - they smell weird to me - like weird chemicals or something.

@WhiskySour83 love the look of Tropic Tonic! 'Tis now on my most wanted list.

Op, I have found that the more I wear lipstick, the more weird it feels not to wear it. Just force yourself to reach for those bright/bold shades whenever you're tempted to play it safe and in a few weeks it'll feel totally normal.

fernz · 25/09/2022 10:39

MAC Hug Me and Mehr are two I reach for often for everyday. Chilli is good on me too but very bright so I need to feel right to wear that.

EvelynBeatrice · 25/09/2022 18:41

Mac dozen carnations. Only red - ish lipstick I can wear. It's a kind of coral red.

ChiaraMontague · 25/09/2022 21:14

Lipstick Queen Frog Prince

DoYouRememberDiedreBarlow · 26/09/2022 23:53

Another for Lisa Eldridge, the velvet blush I reckon would be lovely on dark hair pale skin and velvet muse also, a nice rosewood colour.

SideEyeSally · 27/09/2022 00:02

I found mac's chilli to be a revelation. I'm very pale (cannot match at mac or bobbi brown) with neutral (grey/cirpselike) undertones and dark reddy-brown hair. I always steered clear of orange based reds cause I thought it would look odd unless you have warm skintones. However it's so flattering and brightens me up in a way blue-based reds (which I think Ruby Woo and maybe Russian Red are) dont. I even wear it with nothing else on my face and find it perks me up instead of washing me out like RW tends to.

Ratonastick · 27/09/2022 07:58

I have mid blonde hair, blue eyes and vanishingly pale Victorian ghost skin. I’ve been wearing black honey by Clinique since the 90s and, despite spending thousands over the decades, have never bettered it. The closest alternative is Frog Prince by Lipstick Queen. It was a slightly joke present from a girl friend, but actually comes up in a lovely rosy shade.

WrinklesShminkles · 27/09/2022 08:13

I don't think Lipstick Queen are still in business?

meateatingveggie · 27/09/2022 08:20

I like Mac Chilli too, but Devoted to Chilli is the same tones but less so, if Chilli is a bit too much for you.

hennybeans · 27/09/2022 08:22

I like Mac Relentlessly Red. In my opinion, it is more of a bright pinkish red and it is a strong colour, but a really pretty shade. You could always blot a bit off.

SmallestInTheClass · 27/09/2022 08:23

Maybelline lip crayon in Run the World is a good pink that's not too strong. Also their Superstay in Lover. I do like stronger colours when I go out but these are both good for everyday.
