If you’re a brunette with fair skin, what’s your favourite lipstick?

I rarely wear lipstick and when I do I always seem to go for very similar neutral colours eg Mac Twig or Velvet Teddy. This week I wore a rose pink lipstick and really liked it so fancy buying a couple of new ones outside my comfort zone! I’ve also never found a red that I think really suits me.

I am really pale, with brown eyes and is brown hair, MAC Russian red is a nice red.
Nudes with a mauve tint are nice too

Lisa Eldridge Velvet Ribbon is my favourite red and it lasts all day

I’ve just found a picture of Russian Red v Ruby Woo (which I have already). Russian Red looks like it has a lot more depth than RW (which really doesn’t suit me).

I have a couple of Lisa Eldridge’s lipsticks so I’ll have a look at that colour.

Ruby Woo doesn’t suit me either, it was actually a MUA who I was talking to about red not suiting me, and she took one look and said Russian Red.
And she was right 😊

Charlotte Tilbury Lost Cherry

I suit a coral toned pink and prefer lighter colours. I mix Charlotte Tilbury Kim KW with Revolution Matt lipstick in Frost. Perfect.

It was Bare Minerals ‘Joy’. It’s an everyday colour but a bit of a departure from my usual boring colours.

I love the Clinique one though not sure if I’m brave enough to wear such a strong colour! I’ve never tried Charlotte Tilbury so might have to pop into Fenwick for a try.

I like raspberry pinks. I love reds (including Russian Red) but never wear them - I always feel a bit too 'done' in red lipstick. I like soft browny rose colours. In summer I like a pinky coral.

Ah I was coming on to say Velvet Teddy lol. I also swear by CT pillow talk but v similar vibe.

Im a brunette, dark eyes and dark brows and I use both these.

Velvet Teddy looks horrific on me. Yet it looks amazing on somebody else I know. We have very similar colouring.

Oh and Pillow Talk is disgusting on me too. Anything brown based just washes me out. Fortunately my DD works for CT so I can try things without wasting money.

I went to Boots No7 counter and they scanned my skin then recommended a couple of shades from that including a nice pink and a red that looks perfect. I can't remember the name of it right now, but my perfect might not be your perfect.

I'd really recommend doing that if you want a shade that looks just right.

Ibe been scanned for a foundation match in boots (might have been the Estée Lauder counter though) but didn’t know you could get it done for lipstick!

Another charlotte tilbury one i like which may be more up your street is stoned rose.

Velvet teddy and pillow talk don't look quite right on me. But I love MAC Modesty - my best lipstick ever.

I never found a red that suited me so it's interesting to read about Russian Red... I wonder...

I’ve just been looking at some of my lipsticks and thrown out quite a few out that must be 20+ years old! The ones on the left are the colours I always seem to go for but I’m going to start wearing some of the brighter ones on the right.

I’ve had a foundation match at No7 before but didn’t know you could be matched for lipstick.

Dior do lovely reds. I am brunette and pale and have 2 that I love.

I am similar skin tone and hair to you and wear the same types of lipstick as those you’ve pictured.

baby cashmere by Estée Lauder (for an easy to wear pink)
intense nude by Estée Lauder (for a neutral brown)
milk in my coffee by Mac (for a neutral brown)
happy days by Nars is a discontinued lip crayon that I love, it’s a good pinky coral for daytime
