2 huge lines between brows - help

Magpiesalute · 20/09/2022 15:27

I am mid forties and have pretty good skin with few wrinkles apart from huge ‘elevens’ the two lines between my eyebrows. I’m not keen on the idea of injectables, but is there anything else that would work to fill or soften these? I’ve tried Clarins instant smooth to no avail. Any ideas? I think they are really ageing me.

Its shame you don’t want injectables because botox would work so well.

Beachsidesunset · 20/09/2022 15:58

Are you subconsciously tensing your frown muscles? Could you try relaxation therapy to relax your face?

MelbourneStateofMind · 20/09/2022 16:04

Botox is the only thing that will help. You don't have to get loads. Ask for the bare minimum amount. And don't forget that it wears off so if you don't like it you can just let it fade and never get it again.

A small tip, if you do go for Botox that there is no immediate effect, then after a week it goes the other way and looks a bit too severe. After 2 weeks it settles down and softens and you will be really happy I am sure. Just make sure you don't have any special events in the fortnight straight afterwards.

DoingJustFine · 20/09/2022 16:05

Botox will fix that in a jiffy!

shivawn · 20/09/2022 16:07

Ah, the 11 lines....I'm a sufferer myself. Sorry OP but I agree that Botox is the only way, it works sooooo well on this area!

Thanks for that. I had botox last week and whilst it has worked amazing on my wrinkley forehead, it has seemed to flatten/stretched my eyes out a bit and they look a little more hooded than before.

It's not bad but I'm reassured that next week it might not look quite as different.

Magpiesalute · 20/09/2022 16:21

I do think I frown a lot and use those lines subconciously. I’ve never heard of relaxation therapy!

😂 at lots of you suggesting Botox. Is it really the only way?

Maybe I just need a mindset shift, to not care about ageing/looking older. It’s quite hard though!

MelbourneStateofMind · 20/09/2022 16:27

@Fifiellz that's exactly what happened to me, but it's completely normal. You need to give it a good couple of weeks at least to soften out, and then it's amazing!

MelbourneStateofMind · 20/09/2022 16:30

@Magpiesalute yes, there's no face cream or magic dust that can remove wrinkles sadly!

I used to think I'd never try Botox but am really glad I did. As I said you don't have to get a high amount. You can always start with the lowest dose and build if you want to.

I don't know why Botox gets such a terrible rep on here. It's not the same as surgery (even though that's someone's choice to do) - it's non-invasive and wears off. If it makes you feel happier and ease a your insecurities then it's well worth it in my opinion. You don't have to go crazy with it!

missfliss · 20/09/2022 16:40

Yup. Botox is the only way to really get rid. I had them too in my mid 30s - have only actually needed Botox once and they've not returned!
It wasn't so much ageing that bothered me - it was more that I looked permanently p1ssed off!

Magpiesalute · 20/09/2022 16:43

Wow, just one dose of Botox @missfliss ? That’s amazing. I thought you just had to keep getting it over and over.

Do you know I said that - and then looked in a mirror and I have realised that the biggest one is starting to creep back !!! However that is after 7 years so not that bad !!

blisstwins · 20/09/2022 16:46

You do have to get it over and over when it wears off. Previous poster means that with Botox the problem is solved—simple.

It causes the muscles to relax and so in time the line decreases as it's not being reinforced the whole time - iyswim.

missfliss · 20/09/2022 16:49

Current state - not that bad and am frowning in the sun a bit !!
7-8 years ago these lines were deep and etched no matter what expression I had!!

Magpiesalute · 20/09/2022 16:59

@missfliss impressive!

@Magpiesalute I've actually just booked In to have Botox on this on Thursday now !

If you aren't ok with injectables then that's absolutely fair enough - I have heard of things called 'frownies' as maybe having a temporary effect - you could try those? Can't vouch myself though.

Shiboleth1 · 20/09/2022 17:05

I had Botox for this reason last week. It's worked a treat. I'm really happy with it.

Eddieisadick · 20/09/2022 17:18

Botox changed me from looking angry and grumpy all the time. I swear by it for this area

missfliss · 20/09/2022 17:35

@Magpiesalute out of curiosity I found an old pic of me from 2014 ...

And now 2022 - it's a better light to be fair but it's still better than 8 years ago !!

What a difference @missfliss !

You’re all making me wonder if I should consider Botox.

reasons for not wanting it…

  • I don’t like needles much
  • expense
  • i’m worried it might go wrong and freeze my face
  • i’m worried I’ll need more and more and eventually look weird/not myself anymore
  • I tell my daughter to love herself as she is so I wouldn’t be practicing what I preach

i’ll look up frownies too!

I was the same as you OP.

I went for it as didn't want to look frowny in wedding photos.

So glad I did. It's amazing! The best part - I haven't told a soul. No one knows or has noticed, it's so subtle.

Got lots of tips on here, most importantly - read ALL the reviews and go to someone who's a qualified doctor. My botox lady is also a GP - this is surprisingly common.

If you don't like it, it wears off anyway.

Re. love yourself as you are - totally get this - the thing that pissed me off is that I was causing the wrinkles by frowning so bloody much! And it's impossible to stop. So I looked at it as not actually being against by naturally ageing face, more stopping myself from doing something I wish I didn't do (as PP said, looking permanently pissed off!)

Go for it, honestly, you won't regret it.

missfliss · 20/09/2022 18:18

They are all totally valid reasons.

I'm not trying to convince you -

Some of them are dependent on a good practitioner, generally speaking a 'less is more' approach works best with Botox - you can always top up if the effect isn't enough on first go.

On some of the others - I have had other injectables ( injectable moisturizer essentially) for improving skin texture ( Profhilo / Sunekos) but that's it. I still look exactly like me just with slightly better skin in my mid 40s than I had in my late 30s.

On self acceptance - I totally do get you. But for me personally I hated looking pissed off and angry that's it.

I do look after my skin much better now - like many on the S&B threads I use tretinoin ( from Skin & Me), glycolic acid to exfoliate, vit c and good SPF. Al of those have made a big difference to the quality of my skin. However for deep dynamic frown lines caused by muscle pulls - no pill or potion is going to change them.
