Cosmetic surgery in Turkey

Threebutterflies · 19/09/2022 14:56

So I’ve book my surgery in Turkey for this time next week . Flights cost £500
and the deposit was £300. Now I’m thinking of not going but £800 is an awful lot of money to loose . Has anyone used the company ‘clineca’ before ? The surgeons name is dr alp ercan if anyone knows him.

@Battlecat98
you are right . Even if this surgeon has done a good job the aftercare is rubbish . I’ve never felt so alone and have no idea how I’m going to manage a flight on Sunday I can’t even have a shower I feel so bad

are you able to contact the surgeon?

cheeeeeeeese · 29/09/2022 16:02

Have you called the clinic? Surely they gave you an emergency number when you were discharged?
Can anyone in your hotel help?

IStandWithMaya · 29/09/2022 16:10

You could have an infection. Get back in contact with the clinic and insist they see you. Get a taxi there. Good luck.

Sniffypete · 29/09/2022 16:29

Sounds like you have an infection. You need to get in contact with the clinic ASAP. If not, you'll need to go to hospital, however be prepared for a bill! Presumably, travel insurance wouldn't cover you for this, so you'll have to pay for your medical expenses.

VisitingThem · 29/09/2022 17:50

So sorry to hear your having a rough time OP, agree that it sounds like you may have an infection and you should get back to the clinic asap.

Battlecat98 · 29/09/2022 19:38

Hi OP how are you feeling? It's obviously not unusual to feel unwell post surgery but, your symptoms do sound worrying. Have you managed to contact anyone? I hope you are getting the correct care.

Threebutterflies · 29/09/2022 20:38

Hiya I’ve been up and had a shower . My fever seemed to improve after about 4 . They sent me back with antibiotics so maybe there starting to work . I think if you come here for surgery you definitely need to bring someone to help look after you . Have no idea how I’m going to manage the airport

I’m seeing the doctor tomorrow at 3 so see how that goes x

mackthepony · 29/09/2022 20:44

How are you feeling now op?

J0y · 29/09/2022 20:54

How much more recovery time to you have before you have to head to airport

Threebutterflies · 29/09/2022 21:06

I only have tomorrow and Saturday then going to airport Sunday morning. I definitely dont think that’s long enough though. All the clinics I looked at seem to do it in that time frame but now I’ve actually had the operation I realise what a big surgery it is . Personally I think it should be at least 7 days from the op. Even sorting my suitcase out hurts my nose !

Hopefully 48 more hours on anti biotics will change everything 🤞

isitspringyet · 29/09/2022 22:13

Have you told the airline you’re flying after having had an operation? They will need to clear you.

justasmalltownmum · 29/09/2022 22:17

Trust your gut. I would rather lose £800 than my nose.

PinkStickleBrick · 29/09/2022 22:24

I hope you feel better asap

pompei8309 · 29/09/2022 22:27

I had few “ interventions “ in Turkey , I always looked at the ones that have a hospital coordinator and that they do speak english, also all mine I was given the option to stay in hospital and not in a hotel which i found very reassuring having a nurse at a touch of a button. I’m sure you’ll be fine just need to get yourself home now, let us know if you’re happy with the results

isitspringyet- you get travel letter from the doctor/clinic

Amarette · 29/09/2022 22:30

Hope you feel better soon.

Meili04 · 29/09/2022 22:59

I've had a procedure done in Turkey I actually woke up during the anesthesia. I was terrified and alone listening to people speak a language I didn't know. I've had no problems afterwards and it was a success. I would strongly advising doing a lot of research, ask about their anesthesia team etc. I won't be going back to Turkey for plastic surgery as it's just not regulated enough for me there's too many cowboys. There's a FB group called victims of botched surgery and they have a botched list you should avoid those clinics and surgeons. People have died out there families not informed and denying any responsibility. If you really can't afford the UK look at Prague / Lithuania there's some good clinics there.

maddiesmam · 30/09/2022 09:01

Can you not stay longer till you know you are fully recovered? What happens if you fall ill on the flight home or when you get home?

Threebutterflies · 30/09/2022 09:51

@Meili04
jeez how terrifying! We’re you in pain ? Had they already started operating?
no I don’t think I’d come back unless it’s something that can be done by local anaesthetic. There just not caring enough and I find some of there hospital procedures abit strange.

Hi Threebutterflies, so sorry to hear you were feeling rough after the surgery OP. Hope you feel much better soon. Yes, I would have insisted on minimum 3 days in the hospital after surgery and also to stay close to the hospital for a week afterwards. Lots and lots of painkillers. As a native, I would have argued and negotiated and they'd have likely caved in - you are paying for this and came all the way from the UK and put your trust in them...Brits are too polite :) ! Wish you had someone with you too. Hope the results will be worth it, please keep us posted.

Regarding previous posters' experience, I am sorry to hear all that. I never heard about any of my friends and family having botched plastic surgeries ( I know a lot of them!) but for sure there are cowboys, like everywhere - I don't think this would be specific to Turkey. One thing I would say though, is that if it sounds too cheap and the doctor is advertising abroad, it would make me suspicious. (This is not for doctors who have a base in the UK much as Tunc Tiryaki, those would be very legitimate of course.) There is definitely a sizeable domestic plastic surgery market in Turkey, so advertising abroad might mean they are not very popular within that domestic market. Just a theory anyway... My advice would be to look at the doctor's plastic surgery experience, having a look online for reviews (especially Turkish websites - search for the name of the doctor and google translate usually works well - such as www.kadinlarkulubu.com/kategori/estetik-ve-estetik-cerrahi ) and definitely have someone with you with lots of time buffer.

Unfortunately I can’t really afford to buy more flights and another hotel now. If I’d have known beforehand I would have booked them for maybe Wednesday. The doctor did say it ended up being a big job as my nose was abit of a mess already and I could hardly breathe so it wasn’t just cosmetic reasons.

I hope you get home ok.

This is such a typical MN thing

OP - shall I go abroad for cosmetic surgery in Turkey

Lots of HCPs - don't, we've seen it go wrong

OP - going to do it anyway..............

Threebutterflies · 30/09/2022 10:34

@Tomatodori
hiya yes the hotel is right by the hospital so that good but personally I thought they might have send a nurse around to check up on me yesterday and today .
I agree we can be to polite but the language barrier was a big problem with the nurses even using google translate it’s difficult! I was dying for a hot cup of tea and kept asking and asking but gave up in the end . Then they eventually bought teabags and sugar with no hot water or cups ! It’s so difficult when you don’t know how things work in another country as in uk they bring a tea trolly round every few hours . After anaesthesia they usealy give you a drink and biscuits but not here . So yeah you definitely need to bring someone to help you as I was lying there starving and dying for a drink !
But anyway I agree it can happen anywhere as I originally got my rhinoplasty done in the uk and the completely messed my nose up so to be fair I think this surgeon was a lot better it’s just the aftercare.
I know someone who came a few months ago for her breast reduction and said the same thing the surgery is good but not the after care. Tbf she did say to bring someone but I had no one that could come. Lesson learned though !
