I think Boots are having a laugh!

Saw the new Menopause skincare range advertised and was interested as a woman of certain age 😉

Jesus wept though, £32 for the plainest tube of cream ever! Ok they're doing 3 for 2 but still!

Is that not really expensive or am I desperately out of touch?

I'll stick with my CeraVe I think.

I saw this ad and watched open mouthed last night. Total marketing con!

Isn't most marketing a con? Well not a con in that they're lying, but being devious.

sponsabillaries · 15/09/2022 08:38

There have always been skincare ranges for ‘mature’ skin. It’s just fashionable to talk more openly about menopause now. Not really any different to Olay’s Regenerist or L’Oréal’s Revitalift brands.

Similar price point to Eucerin / La Roche Posay / Avène.

missfliss · 15/09/2022 08:41

Best menopause skincare ? The oestrogen in HRT .

That plus good basic cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen daily.

Few times a week alternate acid exfoliate, tretinoin and vit c

ImAvingOops · 15/09/2022 08:32

Didn't Boots used to do a No7 skin care range for mature skin? Same thing surely?
£30 is piss taking territory unless the ingredients really do compare to premium brands.

Seems to me at the moment that lots of Boots stores in smaller towns are looking really run down, empty and grubby these days. I wouldn't be surprised if they were the next high street loss. Maybe they could spend some of the profit from their overpriced cream on restocking the make up counters.

Totally agree, that's why I sucked my breath in and pursed my lips when I saw the price, Boots is really scuzzy at the moment and it's a cheek to price a plain tube of moisturiser at £32!

I'm not surprised about this. I watched a presentation at work some months ago that was talking about what a neglected demographic women of menopause age are in market terms. I'm in IT rather than marketing, though, so I allowed myself not to absorb the details.

I recommend silk bedding, though. Not sure what it does for night sweats, as I haven't knowingly had them, so they're either untested, or working remarkably well. But they are soft and... silky, and just lovely to sleep in. I believe in investing in good sleep - we aim to spend 1/3 of each day asleep, and life with poor sleep becomes much more difficult to deal with very quickly.

£30 isn't high-end. It's a 'premium' high street / French pharmacy / Clinique price point.

OhOphelia · 15/09/2022 09:03

@UglyModernWindows Luxury & Denial is an excellent name for a skincare range…<dashes off to nab the URL>

Playplayaway · 15/09/2022 09:04

I look OK for mid 50s using basic skin care. I use boots cucumber face scrub, the tubes of Nivea spf 15 that are about £3 on my face, nivea soft on my body and the blue tubs of nivea are brilliant for slathering on hands and feet and dry areas at night. I'm definitely not a marketeers dream.

I do love handbags though so please bring on the menopausal handbag with sections for fans, mist sprays and my bullshit detector 😆

Primark are doing menopause clothing too.

What next? Menopause food range? (defo be M&S first)

Menopause bedding?

I firmly believe in years to come the whole menopause (and don't get me started on "peri") market will be exposed as the biggest con and scam aimed at women in a generation.

Davina may have done SOME women a favour, but what she, and others who are selling a lifestyle are also doing is preying on women's insecurities as they reach that age.
Yes, you probably need a thicker moisturizer. Your skin is ageing.
Yes, you might need a good conditioner. Your hair is changing and losing its colour.

No, not every single little thing is down to you being in "peri"

PAFMO · 15/09/2022 09:19

PS I'm 56 and also happy with Astral when my skin is dry. And Hair Food by Garnier when my hair frizzes.

ZandathePanda · 15/09/2022 09:22

Oh dear. My ‘face product’ is own brand supermarket hair product 😂. I wash in the shower and rub my face as I am washing my hair and the bubbles are dripping down. 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner. £1 a bottle.

It's not Boots own brand for sure!

I love Nivea but while it does lovely things for my skin after about 3 weeks it makes me itch!

Oh my what a fab idea
Wicking away sweat reducing bedding
That's one j would buy :)

lindyloo57 · 15/09/2022 13:00

I will stick with the cerave, its got everything in it you need for great skin, I love it.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 15/09/2022 13:27

It's MORE expensive than their premium P&P brand. Which is taking the piss.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/09/2022 14:01

Ha, I'm not the only one moaning. I've just seen an add on FB and there are a couple of comments saying it good but the rest are why on earth is it so expensive!

Nicely package in a mauve colour with clear branding, just to make it clear that you are now past your prime.

Apologies for missing the d on packaged. I'l pop in at the weekend and pick up something to help my brain fog, thinning frizzy grey hair, denture fixative, dry vagina lube, crepey skin ...

Better take out a small mortgage beforehand,it's likely all to be over priced!

@KirstenBlest I am glad you are on this thread... I was wondering who in their right mind would buy such nonsense! 😁

Just1thing · 15/09/2022 15:58

C1N1C · 15/09/2022 08:17

This is labelling markup. The same way that a wedding cake is ten times the price, or a wedding bouquet is ten times the price...

Cream is cream. The same way that your skin doesn't magically change from your face to your neck to your body to your hands. I guarantee if you look at the ingredients of comparable products (same range, not menopause), you'll see very little difference.

Don't be conned :).

Wedding cakes are not ten times the price due to a mark up. They’re more expensive because they take much, much longer to make, and are usually bigger so use more ingredients. What a strangely inaccurate example to use!

KirstenBlest · 15/09/2022 16:05

@Ylvamoon , I think most skincare/beauty stuff is just of making us pay for our insecurity. I'm happy with Aldi/Lidl serum and Nivea Soft.
The colour of the Boots packaging and the wording put me right off. Not that I got that close to it. I want packaging that makes me feel young and beautiful not like a wrinkly old dried up hormonally-imbalanced prune.
