Bikini wax...does it hurts?

Thinking of getting a bikini wax for my holiday. How much does it hurt?

I don’t find it painful, but have been having it done for years so may be desensitised!

strawberrysea · 06/09/2022 19:12

I don't want to terrify you but I've had it done a few times and it was so, so painful.
The worst bit is the top area, pubis I guess??
I went on holiday recently and just shaved. Saved time, money and pain.

I know that some people recommend painkillers 30 mins before.

JerkintheMerkin · 06/09/2022 19:14

Painful but just think of the end result which is so worth it. Had my first Hollywood wax very recently and was thrilled with the results. Definitely going to keep it up.

JerkintheMerkin · 06/09/2022 19:15

Don't get it done a week before your period though.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 06/09/2022 19:16

It depends on type of wax used. How good the salon/therapist is.

Hot wax is better than strip wax (where they put sheet of paper over).

Also depends on your hair type.

And it varies depending on where you are having waxed, the labia are more painful than the sides/top so if you're just having bikini wax rather than Brazilian or Hollywood, that will be less painful and very quick.

GreenManalishi · 06/09/2022 19:17

A lot less if you find someone who uses Lycon wax. Strip wax hurts. Either way it's over quickly and the more regularly you do it the less it hurts.

DillDanding · 06/09/2022 19:18

I get the whole lot off. It’s not painful, imo. I brace myself for the labia bit, but the rest is a doddle.

if you’re doing Hollywood or Brazilian, only go somewhere that uses hot wax.

stayathomer · 06/09/2022 19:19

Yes, sore, just remember to breathe!! (Totally worth it by the way!)

WGACA · 06/09/2022 19:23

You can take 2 paracetamol before you go. It is painful but it lasts so it’s worth it. I’ve been having it all off every couple of months for about the last 5 years.

LethargeMarg · 06/09/2022 19:26

If you have it done regularly it does become less painful but it's unpleasant, I think waxing feels a bit like you've been slapped really hard and imagine that on a very sensitive area. It's an eye waterer. Waxing your legs is far less painful and definitely better than shaving all the time though

toodlesthen · 06/09/2022 19:34

It's utterly excruciating. I am a weed but still. It's so, so painful. Walked out with only one side done once. So many get it done though, so it must be bearable.

WellTidy · 06/09/2022 19:39

Is it more painful than upper lip threading? I have to brace itself for that!

Yy Lycon wax it’s much much better than strip wax, I also find I don’t get a rash or any ingrowing hairs, strip wax I find really painful.

Pootle40 · 06/09/2022 19:59

It's nothing and worth it. Anyone saying a wax is excruciating has a very low pain threshold. You don't need painkillers either.

BakersYeast · 06/09/2022 20:47

It is painful but only for a second or two and my therapist presses down with her hand and it seems to help. They divert you by talking!

Summerishere123 · 06/09/2022 21:36

Slightly scared but think I will give it a go. Looking for the hot wax definitely, thank you for that tip!

Does having the hair on your pubic area ripped out by the root hurt?
What do you think?

prettylittlethingss · 06/09/2022 21:44

I must be a baby. I find it the most painful cosmetic thing I've ever had ShockBlush! And I have lip and cheek filler and tattoos lol. Maybe I'm sensitive.

I think many women PAY to have it done regularly so how much could it really hurt? Clearly it does!

I had a couple of glasses of wine before my first bikini wax! It gets easier every time though. It’s worth it.

I really don’t think this is true - I’m sure some people actually perceive pain relating to hair follicles being ripped out more acutely than others. I think it’s related to hair colour (red). We all know there are different types of pain. I’m a redhead and childbirth wasn’t horrific for me but I’ll never in my life have another bikini wax.

MojoMoFo · 06/09/2022 22:22

I've had a hot bikini wax at one salon and it was a bit painful, but bearable.
Couldn't get an appt when I wanted one, so tried another salon. Hot wax again and it was so bloody painful 😖 ...and it was only my bikini area! Not the full monty! This was 8/9 years ago and I still remember the pain. Just hurt so bloody much, particularly at the inside of thigh/labia (outer flap!). I think I have a high pain threshold and will usually "power through" pain (had two babies vaginally with no pain relief, tried gas and air, but did nothing for me).
So, this leads me to think, it's got to be down to the technique. I don't know if there are vastly different types of hot wax or certain brand names that make a difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

I haven't been back to a salon for a bikini wax again! I now tidy that area myself - trim down with nail scissors, tweezer the stragglers at the side. The tweezering doesn't hurt at all, as I've got used to it.

GyozaGuiting · 06/09/2022 22:25

I find it painful and I’ve had laser hair removal, which I didn’t find too bad! Maybe the person I went to wasn’t very good.

Well many women choose to have children - which also hurts! Not sure what your point is?

Yeah with the result being a child. Something a bit more significant than a smooth fanny.
