Not there yet. I'm 66, and wear jeans 6 days out of the week. Wearing jeans wwithout Lycra is how I regulate my weight.

Yes, this! A very good way of keeping weight in check as they are so unforgiving

We're the same age and I love my jeans! Unfortunately, I've had a rough few years & have put on 2.5 stone (now at SW to rectify that) so I can't wear them. I really miss being in jeans, t shirt & adidas trainers 😆

I ditched jeans when they became skinny and never looked back. Horrible fabric that is too cold in winter and too hot in summer. Takes ages to get dry if they get wet. Impractical.

Ariadnee · 06/09/2022 12:54

Seems more to do with weight/bodyshape than age, going off these comments.
I am another, never liked skinny jeans but loving new styles of trousers and jeans right now, so relaxed and an exciting new silhouette (it's been too long!).

Jeans don't restrict if they're correctly sized and not a tight style. Getting skinny jeans on and off was hellish for me at 7st 10 (5'5). Sweaty Betty leggings are a pain in the arse for that, too, but do look decent on.

We have a lot more choice now, my faves are combats, both cuffed and wide legged. Soft loose fit cords with a mid rise are great too for winter. No matter how slim we might be, skinny, tight or restrictive clothes are uncomfortable on the skin, soft tissue, the gut, bowels, and knee hinges.

I say this a someone who suits dresses but never wears them as I always feel like they're too thin, unlined and crazily patterned. If they start making simple, well made dresses in good fabrics that don't look like small tents or stiff office wear I would be happy to give it a go!

Ooh I thought it was only me going through a phase....

We have just come out of winter, which felt very long, so I had decided that I have had enough of jeans and packed them all away with my winter jumpers etc. Which left me not a lot to wear as tbh, I am a jeans and t-shirt type of gal. I have worn jeans as a staple my whole life, now suddenly at 52 I just thought, no I've had enough of them now. I think the whole not finding the right type to suit me anymore has been a big factor. And those that used to fit me well, just don't sit well on me anymore. I haven't changed weight but I think I have changed shape iyswim.

So I trekked off to the shops and came back with chinos, linen and some linen/cotton blend trousers to wear instead. I only do long maxi skirts or dresses as I hate my legs, so that limited me too.

I have no idea what I will do next winter when the cotton and bare ankles will be a no no.

I do think that back in the day you could pop into a shop and pick up the pair of Levi's you liked and knew fitted you well. That isn't the case now as they keep changing and discontinuing styles, and really, jeans are catered for crop top wearers now imo.

That packing away made for a strange old day I tell you......

For me it started during lockdown when I lived in sweaty Betty leggings and I've never really gone back! Its also that it's completely acceptable, in fact fashionable, to go around in sportswear nowadays - it's what most of the school mums wear. My dd16 remarked the other day that she feels like people don't make as much effort with what they wear nowadays and the look is very casual. She's right! At her age I wore lots of skirts/dresses/fitted stuff and it was all accessorised and the hairstyles were a lot more high maintenance. Now even the young'uns wear trackie bottoms, trainers and a tee shirt most of the time and don't seem to dress up when going out. Hair is left long and loose and low maintenance.

I think we've become lazier and more prone to just wanting to be comfortable. Also I think girls feel less need to look "sexy" and attract the male gaze. All good as far as I'm concerned!

I’ve never tried sweaty Beaty leggings before are they good ?

I wish I could think that was so but, having seen some recent billboards for the likes of Missguided and Boohoo, I'm not so sure.

optimistic40 · 06/09/2022 17:41

Yeah. Not sure what's going on, whether it's post-lockdown rather than age 🤷‍♀️ I'm 42 and slim, and I feel so awful in jeans. They feel like they dig in. They're just uncomfy!

ShandaLear · 06/09/2022 18:04

I wore light cotton/linen trousers the whole way through lockdown and now just find jeans too heavy and constricting.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/09/2022 18:07

59, 5ft 8 size 14, with horrible c section pouch.

Still wear them. Agree with M and S

I love them - they're so comfy, wash brilliantly and last for ages and also suck you in and make you look a size smaller!

TheChosenTwo · 06/09/2022 18:17

I’m 37 and have just got rid of the last 2 pairs of jeans in my wardrobe as I realised I never wore them and haven’t really worn jeans for years.
never find a pair that’s comfortable, I don’t even give a crap what they look like to be honest, I just hate the constricting waistband material - I spend a lot of time sitting at a desk - I want stretchy material for that.
jeggings always wrinkle up around my thighs and then when you sit down they feel lumpy around the backs of my knees. Eurgh. Bye bye jeans!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/09/2022 20:41

They do if you’ve got a C section pouch. My waist went up by 5 inches after my section, but the weight was the same. If l buy to fit my waist they are just huge everywhere else.

M and S seem to allow for this😁
