Embrace the dress OP! Jeans aren't mandatory. I wore dresses all last year - so comfy and easy to wear. After a ruthless declutter of half my clothing, I have one pair of blue jeans now which are a decade old and I still hardly wear. Dress + boots is a great combination for autumn and winter, and quicker for me when getting ready in the morning.

5 years ago I gave up jeans.
I was 44 and constantly menopausal.
I have a lovely wardrobe full of dresses and a couple of pair of leggings for gardening.

I can't remember the last time I wore jeans. I find them too restrictive. I remember though having friends put things in the gap at the back. One friend managed a tennis ball.

Veeragall · 04/09/2022 10:32

I don't think it's an age thing. I'm in my 50s and a bit overweight but I don't find jeans uncomfortable.

Cantonet · 04/09/2022 10:48

Yes I did.
But I've lost a bit of weight & I'm now wearing them again. And I hate the high lycra content skinny jeans. For some reason I don't like the feel of lycra any more - it makes my skin crawl. So the looser barrel jeans styles are great.
Plus, it's very easy to put on weight living in elasticated waists & leggings as I've discovered.

samthebordercollie · 04/09/2022 10:55

I'm nearly 57, tallish and slim and live in jeans: I avoid skinnies in the summer as they are really uncomfortable when it's hot, but apart from that and when I'm doing sport or sleeping, I live in jeans:

Wouldloveanother · 04/09/2022 10:57

YANBU particularly the types made of more rigid denim. Honestly feels like I’m being cut in half, gives me stomach cramps and makes me bloat 🤯 the stretchy ‘jegging’ types are okay but I wish we had more convenient fashion options outside just jeans.

Thisiscrazyshite · 04/09/2022 10:58

I think I’m teaching that age now and I’ve lived in jeans all my life.

I'm 58 and still wear jeans, and don't find them uncomfortable at all. I don't think it's an age thing.

I wear dresses a lot, too. Every day for work.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 04/09/2022 11:39

I stopped wearing jeans around age 31/32 - that was 30 years ago. I was a size 8 then. It wasn't for reasons of comfort- I just found them really boring.

Floisme · 04/09/2022 11:53

I went off jeans for a while when I was in my 50s and yes, it was partly a menopause, body changing thing. But I went back to them a few years ago. I much prefer the choice of shapes that's around now and I find that sizing up and wearing with a belt avoids that constricted feeling.

I've nothing against dresses and I've been through phases of living in them, but I've always got bored in the end. On the whole, I find separate tops and bottoms (whether jeans/chinos/trousers/skirts/whatever) are far more versatile, especially if you're on a budget, and involve less washing.

LindaEllen · 04/09/2022 12:12

I think the problem is so many of us try to get into the smallest size we physically can, whereas a size (or even two!) up would be much comfier. Remember nobody looking at you sees the number on your label, but they do see a comfortable, confident person wearing good fitting clothes!

TheOGCCL · 04/09/2022 13:00

@Cynderella These aren't cropped on me! That model is TALL. I have v short legs though.

elp30 · 04/09/2022 13:08

I was just thinking of this myself yesterday.
I'm 52, had two c-sections 25 and 21 years ago and I have a lower shelf.
I put some jeans on and they just looked terrible on me and I felt uncomfortable.
I tried another pair and they did nothing for me.
I wore a skirt all day and I felt better and more comfortable. I'm wearing a dress now and I feel pretty good and look put together.
I suppose it's time for me to put the jeans away for good now.

BigWoollyJumpers · 04/09/2022 13:10

I find jeans the most comfortable thing to wear. I am a slightly podgy 56 year old, and I find they hold all your bits and pieces in nicely. I wear high waisted Jamie's from Top Shop (now ASOS). My uniform is basically these jeans and sloppy jumpers, with high boots in the Winter. I do wear more dresses in summer though.

Oh! They may be what I need then!

yasminisa · 04/09/2022 13:41

I'm 55, and have a few pairs of jeans. I can't remember the last time I wore them

Thighdentitycrisis · 04/09/2022 13:45

My mums in her 80’s and has been wearing jeans since the seventies

rosiepozis · 04/09/2022 13:47

I stopped wearing nearly any jeans/trousers (I do wear leggings when excercising) as a teenager!

It wasn’t originally a comfort thing, but whenever I thought about wearing them again I couldn’t face it. Skirts and dresses are a lot more comfortable imo

Yes I think you're right there, but when you live in the countryside and spend a lot of time outside working and walking jeans a more practical!

fernz · 04/09/2022 13:55

For me I think it's just that I've got used to dresses and skirts (and dungarees and leggings during the lockdown times). With jeans and trousers I find the stitching and zip/button just feel really hard and painful compared to the soft waistband of a skirt or tights and dress. 40 and no kids, a bit overweight at size 12/14 here.

Handsoffmyrights · 04/09/2022 13:59

I'm 49 and only owned one pair of jeans. I hated them then and hate them now. I don't wear trousers either as they feel yncomforyable too.

I'm 5ft 1 with a large arse and stomach. This was made worse by csections, so it's leggings or jeggings (I found a comfy ish Dorothy Perkins pair).

RandomUsernameHere · 04/09/2022 14:04

After lockdown! Jeans aren't particularly uncomfortable, just aren't as comfortable as leggings/shorts/pyjamas

gogohmm · 04/09/2022 14:20

I'm older and bigger than you and I find them comfortable. They need to have stretch though. I have Levi's but not 501's
