I’m a size 16, but find jeans just don’t stay up! I have tried high-waisted, mid-rise but I need to wear a belt with them. If I go down a size I can’t do them up at all!
I am on the verge of giving up 🙄

High waisted jeans are great for hiding mum tum/c section tum. I feel more trim than when wearing low or midi jeans.

After the mum tum comes the post-menopausal bulge! It’s dispiriting how and where weight is distributed. I’ve been living in maxi dresses and lightweight, loose-fitting trousers and am always conscious of my dress or top clinging suddenly to my tum. Today I had a yearning to put on my jeans, now that it’s finally beginning to cool down a tiny bit, and I felt so much trimmer like Lovinglife said

Ive had 2 sections but can't blame that as worse jeans happily for years after. Covid is to blame. All that time spent in lounge wear and leggings now I find jeans so uncomfortable and restrictive

I find jeans the most comfortable thing to wear. I am a slightly podgy 56 year old, and I find they hold all your bits and pieces in nicely. I wear high waisted Jamie's from Top Shop (now ASOS). My uniform is basically these jeans and sloppy jumpers, with high boots in the Winter. I do wear more dresses in summer though.

Sounds like they’d be ideal for me! Yes, holding in your bits and pieces: perfectly put!

Scrappydoo668 · 04/09/2022 14:53

Covid did it for me. I can no longer wear uncomfortable clothes at all!

Have you tried Toast’s pull up denim trousers? they’re comfortable and sort of jeansy.

liveforsummer · 04/09/2022 14:53

I find either Dorothy Perkins petite or M&S short jeggings (with Lycra) to fit the best. Have to be high rise and as they are jeggings they don’t have zips/buttons.

I bought high waist jeggings recently and they are awful. The waist is right sized for the highest/smallest part but you still have to get ot over bum, hips and thighs without any button openings. Put me off going to the toilet in them 😆.

PeachMelba78 · 04/09/2022 14:59

Yes I have had a C-section and I hardly wear jeans now, they are uncomfortable and I don’t like the new shapes.
I tend to wear skirts, dresses or shorts or trousers depending on the weather.
I’ve gone up a size due to menopause too so even less likely to wear jeans - only if it’s cold.
I had a thread recently about a work night out and was called weird for saying no to jeans, so they are certainly still popular.

samthebordercollie · 04/09/2022 15:04

I had 2 c sections, now 5 years into the menopause, but no tummy to speak of so jeans no problem, thanks to running. I have rather chunky legs above the knee so look horrible in shorter skirts, jeans hide them better

MissyB1 · 04/09/2022 15:10

I’m mid 50s and a size 8 but I find Jeans are becoming harder and harder to wear comfortably. I’ve got a pair of Fatface boot cut which are fairly comfy. But those are literally the only ones I can wear.

Look at Levis as they go in one inch waist sizes.

Coffeepot72 · 04/09/2022 18:02

Even as a skinny teenager (many years ago) I found jeans uncomfortable. But it’s always been tricky to find a workable alternative, so I have persevered.

theemmadilemma · 04/09/2022 18:05

Sometimes at night as I try to remove my skinny jeans (don't care!) I think how wide legs and elastic waists might be easier. 😂

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/09/2022 18:12

I think its just finding the right fit. For me Next mid rise bootcut jeans are super comfy. I cant wear high waisted jeans they feel awful and they seem to be 'in" for ages.

lovescats3 · 04/09/2022 20:07

I think I will struggle to get back into them after wearing loose things all summer!

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 04/09/2022 20:12

I've never found jeans comfortable. I don't understand the obsession with them.

sundayvibeswig22 · 04/09/2022 20:52

I'm generally a dresses, tights and boots person but I do wear jeans sometimes (more so since I've skimmed down). I like the M&S jeans (Evie). Very comfy and come in different lengths (I'm short!).

Sheffieldissunny · 04/09/2022 21:00

I have just got a pair for the first time because the high waisted seems to be back in fashion, but I don't think I'll wear them very often. Not as comfortable as other trousers, and rubbish when they get wet. I tend to wear a lot more dresses since having kids

TollgateDebs · 05/09/2022 08:46

I believe you never get to an age where jeans are too uncomfortable, just an age where you refuse to wear anything that's uncomfortable!! 60 years old and have two pairs that I will wear, as they fit me and hold their shape, just no longer willing to squeeze in to, or modify my shape for any piece of clothing lol.

Superbabe64 · 05/09/2022 09:24

I'm 57 and still love wearing my jeans. My favs are hight waisted and wide legged. Was back wearing them for Taylor Hawkins concert on Saturday and felt really good in them.
You need to try different styles and find what you feel comfortable and look good in. A little bit of stretch always helps.

SommerTen · 05/09/2022 12:23

I'm 46 & wear my jeans a lot as they're one of the few items in my wardrobe that still fit me.... they look good as well.
They're fairly high waisted straight leg pale blue denim Primark jeans size 16.
Actually a bit big for me but they make my stomach look smaller and feel comfortable anyway, can be dressed up with a smart top & sandals or down with a T-shirt & Adidas.

SommerTen · 05/09/2022 12:25

I've even been wearing them in hot weather recently as got bitten 8 times by a stupid mosquito and my leg looks awful!
None of my longer dresses fit so I had to hide in jeans.

Suzi888 · 05/09/2022 12:28

I’ve always found them uncomfortable 😫😂 even when I was size 6 with no tum! I like that they hold me in- and stop any wobbling about!

ihatesoaps · 05/09/2022 17:52

Hate jeans! Never ever felt comfortable in them at all. Size 12-14 now but even when I was a smaller size I still hated them
Now I don't own any.
Every now and again I'll try some on in shops but never buy them as far too uncomfortable!

Starfishswimmer · 05/09/2022 19:14

Goign to try a few of these suggestions before giving up
but I think I’ll swap to at least wearing them less and less
so will need more alternatives
