Do you get to an age wear you just find jeans too uncomfortable?

Got a c section pouch which I think making jeans uncomfortable
prefer dresses really and I’m thinking of ditching jeans

mid 40s
size 12

I’ve worn shorts all summer so the transition to jeans is going to be a struggle. Also I’m now fat 😆

blockpavingismynightmare · 03/09/2022 22:59

I've got one too from an ectopic pregnancy but I still wear jeans. Just find the right fit OP

Cynderella · 03/09/2022 23:19

No C section, but yes, I have gradually worn jeans less and less. had some jeggings a while back, and would like to go back to jeans because I like the look and they're practical.

Any recommendations for comfortable but stylish (and I take the point about right fit being individual)? I don't even know what fit to look at - mostly sitting down now, only wear flats and only 5'3". Size 12ish - like OP.

ADialgaAteMyDog · 03/09/2022 23:21

We have the same stats and I'm the same. Jeans, ugh. Unfortunately, I have to sit on the floor a lot in a very cold workplace and haven't found a decent alternative yet. Looking around for stretch cords at the moment and hoping they are more comfy than jeans.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 03/09/2022 23:22

Nope. Just can't anymore and I used to live in skinny jeans, even jeggings seem to be uncomfortable now. I've got a pair of "mum jeans" shorts and they're comfy, so I think it's the around the knee area.
But I think I'm going to be a dresses with tights and cardies autumn/winter this year rather than jeans and jumpers.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 03/09/2022 23:23

I'm 31, 5'2 , size 10ish (more often a 12) no c section, but definitely owner of a mum tum.

crosbystillsandmash · 03/09/2022 23:31

I'm in my 50s and still really slim but despite the jeans I've had for years still fitting me, they look hideous and feel really uncomfortable!

I've just presumed it's another 'perk' of ageing and now just wear dresses or dungarees

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2022 23:34

I'm in my 50s and haven't reached that stage yet. Well, I say that now but having lived in dresses all summer, going back to jeans might be an uncomfortable shock to the system. We shall see!

JasperJohnsPaintbrush · 03/09/2022 23:34

I'm in my 60's, 5ft 11ins in height and still wear jeans - love them and wear only them or other trousers. Haven't worn a dress or skirt for over 3 decades!

imnotthatkindofmum · 03/09/2022 23:41

Marks and Spencer's jeans 👍 although like pp I'm dreading getting then back in after summer!

onepieceoflollipop · 03/09/2022 23:42

I wonder if it is a slight change of overall body shape.
I’m 51, definitely more of a ‘tum’ but feel more ‘bulgy’ around the whole area including crotch…

Can still fit into a 10 just about - I’m very short though and do have a defined waist but below that everything is more podgy. I assumed it is a hormonal/menopausal issue?

It’s not just jeans for me it is all trousers that are too clingy around that area.
I find either Dorothy Perkins petite or M&S short jeggings (with Lycra) to fit the best. Have to be high rise and as they are jeggings they don’t have zips/buttons. I wear an assortment of drapy type tops/T-shirts depending on the weather.

PickAChew · 03/09/2022 23:47

After getting through menopause, I've lost a fair bit of weight but not around the upper hips - if anything, I have more of a tyre there, now. I also bloat more. I can be fine in jeans until about 4pm and then I can't get them (and my bra, whether well fitting or just a comfy one that holds them down, rather than up) off fast enough.

SarahAndQuack · 03/09/2022 23:49

Yes, I got to 18 or so and I found them less comfortable. I occasionally wore jeans in my 20s, but not often. I'm a size 14 now but was an 8/10 then, and I just found jeans always dug in just where it hurt. My mum is 70 and has just discovered jeans, and loves them. But at 37, I'd be quite happy never to see them again!

Fcuk38 · 03/09/2022 23:51

I’ve not worn jeans regularly since my mid 30s- dresses are just easier.

hamstersarse · 03/09/2022 23:54

I've just bought my first pair for years - some boyfriend high waist ones and they definitely feel pretty heavy but I am kind of liking them for a change! I'm 47/size 8-10

KensingtonStation · 03/09/2022 23:58

No! I am 50. Weigh less than I did when I left school, am 5'2" and just over 7 stone. Never occurred to me that jeans go off limits at some point.

WithIcePlease · 03/09/2022 23:59

Its not compulsory to wear jeans
Embrace the dress
DD 24 never wears trousers or jeans (no c section or anything and size 10) and lives in countryside. May wear leggings for a particularly muddy walk. She simply doesn't like the constriction around her legs

TheOGCCL · 04/09/2022 00:09

46 and love my jeans. I don’t wear jeans that make me feel constricted, nothing too tight or high. I just got these. But expensive but very comfortable. I find tights way more constructive, no choice on the rise of those.

When it gets to proper winter I find it too cold to wear denim and switch to cords.

This is the look I like, but I need full length for winter.

mrsfollowill · 04/09/2022 00:16

Hate jeans and not worn for years- leggings and tunic tops or knee length dresses and thick black tights and boots. Jeans are always too tight around the waist and the fabric is tough and scratchy- not for me!

Rockbird · 04/09/2022 00:21

I went off jeans a few years ago. Have a couple of pairs of jeggings but, after years of not wearing dresses or skirts I've really rediscovered them this summer and so I think I'm going to be a dresses/tights person from now on. I'm 50 but I don't think age has anything to do with it.

goodbyestranger · 04/09/2022 00:26

Size 10, DC in their twenties and early thirties and live in mom jeans pretty much. Loathe tights however.

been and done it. · 04/09/2022 01:03

I'm 70 and still in my Levis

Bearthepooh · 04/09/2022 01:23

Csection also, I'm 31 and a size 16 and I've really begun to hate jeans recently. Im a big fan of midi skirts/dresses or wide leg trousers. Jeans run awfully and don't look flattering on my overhang.

Lovinglife45 · 04/09/2022 01:48

High waisted jeans are great for hiding mum tum/c section tum. I feel more trim than when wearing low or midi jeans.
