What do you think about this dress for mother of a he bride?

Hi all. If I dress this up, would it be ok for mother of the bride? Also how to dress it up? It's the nicest thing I've seen and I felt really comfortable in it. However, not sure if it's "weddingy" enough? Many thanks.

Assume this is an autumn or winter wedding? Quite strong colours so would check with your dd. I like it though!

LM40 · 27/08/2022 15:36

If you like it that’s the main thing, I would wear a hat/fascinator and some nice heels

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2022 15:53

The pic isn't great, but it looks nice for an Autumnal casual wedding. I'd want to know what the fabric is like though.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/08/2022 15:58

If it's a very casual autumn wedding, but it's still not great, honestly.

chillipenguin · 27/08/2022 16:01

Consider something in your hair and a nice bag

abovedecknotbelow · 27/08/2022 16:03

It looks like a work dress to me, not really MOB

MuddlerInLaw · 27/08/2022 16:57

How can you spend £129.00 on nylon and spandex? Shock

It’s not a particularly stylish dress but if it were in a lovely fabric it might be acceptable.

Is this an advert by stealth, OP? Because I cannot believe that’s the best you can do with your money.

I used to follow a lady on Instagram that gave great clothing ideas and advice and then she became a Cabi stylist. I had to unfollow as I couldn't be doing with all the over exuberant Cabi posts for clothes that didn't seem to be very nice fabrics and more aimed at a US market.
How about Phase Eight or a session with a John Lewis personal shopper?

dressupinyou · 27/08/2022 17:24

I'm not keen. It's very casual and not a nice fabric. If you can pay £130 for a dress then you should be easily able to find something nicer. When is the wedding?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/08/2022 17:29

It's a fairly dull work dress in a horrible fabric! If it were £30 from Asda I might consider it, but I'm sure your £130 could work harder for you as MoB.

20viona · 27/08/2022 17:38

Erm no

hattie43 · 27/08/2022 18:03

Hmm I don't think it's special enough for a MOB as someone said it's more like an office dress.

DiscoBadgers · 27/08/2022 18:08

Ooooh no, it’s horrid. Sorry!

Moggyd · 27/08/2022 18:39

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the honesty! It's actually a spring wedding so I suspected it wasn't quite right. It was just so comfortable! I will keep looking but really don't want the archetypal MOB thing but still want to look good.

Why did you choose that particular brand, OP? It’s obviously horrible fabric, very unfashionable and extremely poor value. Are you interested in being guided to nicer clothes, or …?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 27/08/2022 18:44

I thought this was another trans thread Grin

Mother of a He Bride made me laugh Grin

MuddlerInLaw · 27/08/2022 18:50

Oh dear … Was the title deliberate? I had assumed it was an advert for the nasty frock …

Westfacing · 27/08/2022 18:58

He bride! Grin

OP boring advice I know but do make an appointment at John Lewis - I know a couple of MOBs/MOGs who've been very pleased with the service.

Not just me, then.

Moggyd · 27/08/2022 19:26

OMG not a he bride!! That's hilarious and a total autocorrect! @MuddlerInLaw yes I'm very open to other suggestions. I'm rubbish at this!

Yes - in silk it would be a different kettle of dress.

MuddlerInLaw · 27/08/2022 21:28

Okay … You don’t say what size you are.

To start off I’ll include the Jil Sander dress because it’s gorgeous and such a bargain. But twice the price of the item you showed. But also a couple of dresses from Massimo Dutti just because they seem elegant.

I'm a size 16 and 5 ft 3 so the two brightly coloured dresses are lovely but I'm too short! I like the first one but too expensive. If anything I want to spend less than £130. Thank you for posting them.
