Oodies and alternatives

Looking for some advice please.

I was looking at Oodies for my children this winter, possibly me too!
They seem to be loved by people that have them, but I notice they are pretty pricy, and there seem to be lots of similar, oversized fleece hoodies available on Amazon etc.
Are these good cheap alternatives? Or are Oodies superior and I will find buying cheap is a false economy?

Haven't ever bought the official Oodies but got my DC the primark version earlier this week and they are lovely and were less than £20 each

chillipenguin · 26/08/2022 09:09

I was about to suggest the primark ones. They aren't as good as the original in my DSD's opinion but they certainly do the job.

SoldierBoy · 26/08/2022 09:44

DP has one from Primark, mine is an Oodie. His is lovely and really soft, but you can tell the difference. Mine is a longer length and much thicker and warmer

ExplodingCarrots · 26/08/2022 09:49

I've got a Kuddly after them being recommended on here . I compared it to my friends one from Amazon and mine is much thicker and comfier. They got good reviews compared to oodie. Me and DD love ours . They always come out with good deals especially if you're buying multiple .

RelentlessForwardProgress · 26/08/2022 10:02

We have Aldi ones. They are as long and thick as the Oodies, (and had very similar prints to Oodie ones , in addition to the plain ones) and they are really good value, about £18 each from what I remember, but unhelpfully I dont know when they are coming in again. Worth looking out for, at least

Rushyswife · 26/08/2022 12:24

Thanks all, trying to be organised, as I suspect there may be high demand for warm clothing this winter. Will look out for Aldi ones but think I will go with cheap ones for now

I have a kuddly, which is very similar to the oodie, they often have offers if you buy more than one. I also have bought a Primark one for less cold days

RelentlessForwardProgress · 26/08/2022 12:53

Here's a link to the Aldi ones so you know what to look out for, @Rushyswife but beware they sold out on the first morning at our local shop!

wouldukissafrog · 26/08/2022 12:59

Costco ones are good DH has one. I have an oodie and it really is worth the money in my opinion

TheBatwoman · 26/08/2022 13:01

We bought ours from Dunelm. They had some kids ones but the choices were a bit more limited from memory.

Zeeza · 26/08/2022 16:51

I cant decide what to do. They are so ugly. Will I ever have romance again if I buy some for us?

I suspect they might be one of those things that once seen cannot be unseen

fruitpastille · 26/08/2022 16:56

The Next ones are nice for children. They are called ponchos in the directory. Maybe not as thick but mine have worn them a lot as a dressing gown alternative.

fruitpastille · 26/08/2022 16:57

Personally I'm sticking with a chunky cardigan and scarf that I already own and am not embarrassed to leave the house in!

DSGR · 26/08/2022 17:37

I just wrap my kids in thick fleece dressing gowns (often a size bigger) and slipper boots. I was put off by the price of alternatives

Are oodies better than onesies for kids?

chillipenguin · 26/08/2022 17:41

Depends on if your child can get out a onsie quick enough for the loo I'd say

Wolfcub · 26/08/2022 17:41

Ds and I both have the LucyLocketLoves ones. We are seriously toasty in them. In fact often a bit too warm

WestendVBroadway · 26/08/2022 17:46

How do I get mumsnet to remove my link, as it has my details on it?

You can report it using the three little dots to the right of where it says "bookmark"

WestendVBroadway · 26/08/2022 17:52

Honestly mine was the best Xmas present I've ever had . I use it more than my heated throw .

katieg03 · 26/08/2022 18:06

I got ours from online home store. Really reasonable and very warm!
