Black is totally draining, brown does not often work with cool skin tones.. how do you keep warm and in what great colours please. ?! I look awful in winter.

I just wear colours I like/look good with red hair.

Various shades of green, a kind of burnt orange shade (jackets, Cardis etc), sometimes blues or purples.

I tend to wear black dresses and skirts but usually pair them with other colours. Tbh I find white more draining than black but I'm very pale.

Yutes · 21/08/2022 00:02

I just wear whatever I want. I often opt for a bit of colour but I do wear black.

so maybe a black dress with some green tights. Or maybe some grey with some orange.

Aconitum · 21/08/2022 00:09

Navy and plum are good ones but I suit summer colours so just carry on wearing them through winter. Pinky toned Grey's are ok at a push.
I also carry on with a very light fake tan to avoid the blue tinge to the skin that usually appears by mid December.

SocksAndTheCity · 21/08/2022 00:58

I wear black and also white, red, pink and a fair bit of leopard print; I don't suit muted or 'muddy' colours at all although I do wear olive/khaki and I have a nice beige wool coat.

I don't like green or blue, no matter how much I try to make myself. I have one green skirt that I like, and I'd still like it more if it was red 😂

Styperbolic · 21/08/2022 01:05

Interesting how what colours suit redheads is so variable.

My sister and I are both reheads with blue eyes but she's cooler toned so suits lots of blues and reds, while I'm more warm neutral so wear lots of charcoal, olive green, chocolate brown etc.

My cousin is an auburn redhead, again with blue eyes, and she looks absolutely show-stopping amazing in black - it makes her look really vibrant and alive.

SarahDippity · 21/08/2022 01:14

I’m warm-toned with copper hair, green eyes, and freckles, and wear soft greys, greens, navy, mustard, orange/siena, winter whites/creams, and denims. Black only if I mix a tan with my moisturiser. Colour near the face helps.

PeloAddict · 21/08/2022 01:51

I wear black a lot Blush but i haven't really ever worked out which colours suit me properly
Cool toned v pale redhead with green eyes
Navy and dark greens work well. I never wear orange, yellow, red, white or pink which rules out half the colours!

Givemesunshines · 21/08/2022 09:46

So intresting. ! I have no idea where to shop on winter as the shops appear to be full of winter black, aubergine( makes me look so ill) and navyn, grey.
The colurs that suit me are chambray, pale to mid greens like kelly green, petrol colours.
I think maybe stick with demin dresses, and a cashmere cardi .

?!

What colour tights do you wear? Last year i wore beige and cream cotton ones from e bay.if i wear any fab coloured ones i look like a chidrens tv presenter as i am 5 foot 1 and its too much somehow .

The issue i have is most of the colours that suit me are not avaliable innwinter but in spring.. due to this, the fabrics seem to be thinner whi h then means am cold . Anyone else get this?

DD is a redhead but with brown eyes, she tends to wear autumnal colours all year. Lots of mustard, khaki, olive etc.

Have a look at Brakeburn for their clothes and great quality similar in style to fat face, sea salt etc if you like those but are much cheaper, particularly in the sale. My local TKMaxx have just started stocking them too although their prices are the same as the online sale ones.

ChilliPB · 21/08/2022 10:20

I’d search for the colours you like rather than browse websites if that makes sense.

So search ‘petrol jumper’ or ‘green coat’ on google and see what you can find. Or on eBay/Vinted etc.

I’m auburn with blue-green-grey eyes and neutral skin so slightly different colouring to you but also don’t suit black. I wear sage greens and petrol blues, navy, some greys and pinks and heathery colours. Greens seem to be quite popular this year.

I’ve recently got these on second hand sites:

Knit vest

Sézane cardi

There’s not loads of these colours around so takes a bit more searching. I wear light colours coats (cream/grey). I do wear a little bit of black but not too much. I got a jacket a bit like this one last year and as it’s got white near my face it works well. (Better than the all-black versions of aviator jackets).

Does navy suit you @Givemesunshines ? That’s an easier colour to find and it works for me although prob not my favourite colour. I think if chambray suits you a lovely pale blue coat/jumper could look amazing in winter.

JMAngel1 · 21/08/2022 11:19

Why don’t you do a colour analysis? Very simplistically if you have a high contrast between your skin and hair/eyes, you would be an autumn and if you have low contrast, you would be a spring.
I’m a spring and have more strawberry blonde hair, pale/med warm skin tone (NC25) and green amber eyes.
My favourite colour is a petrol blue/grey. I have a trench coat in this colour but would love to find a warmer winter coat.
I suit dove grey, charcoal, dusty rose, magenta burgundy’s (purple burgundy makes me look ill) warm cream, chocolate brown, petrol blue, dusty blue, cinnamon (although I feel this matches my hair too much), French navy, tan, olive green and khaki.
Loads of options in such colours for coats/jumpers.

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/08/2022 11:23

Blue
Teal
Green
Camel
Cream

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/08/2022 11:25

Usually bottle green as I have green eyes so it’s a win win!

obviously not everything but big items like my coat (one is light beige and completely impractical) one is bottle green. Light grey jeans usually and burgundy/black jumpers

Givemesunshines · 21/08/2022 11:59

ChilliPB love that shade cardi its just lovely shade. I think i am similar tones to you as that shade makws my eyes pop and i am cold to neutral coluring.
Thanks all this is so fab.l

Love this thread I struggle too I have auburn hair and hazel/greenh eyes. I think I have realised I suit navy much better than black and despite always believing since I am a redhead I should wear autumn tones my colours seem to be brighter blues and greens.

would love to get colours done. I do wear black but often put a petrol blue scarf on to lift it.

StillHereChoosing · 21/08/2022 12:50

Yes I think the colour advice out there on websites is often ridiculously simplistic for redheads and usually assumes we are all the same in relation to what colours suit, which is ridiculous as even in one family you can have different redheads with cool, warm, and neutral skin tones and then either vibrant or muted on top of that!

Plus I also think we can easily span a bit of both cool and warm due to the warm hair and cool eye combinations that lots of us have - so we rarely fit perfectly into one colour box from colour me beautiful or equivalent.

But teal seems to be a rare winner with almost every redhead I think, and is usually easy to find in winter for accessories at least. But it how vibrant/muted looks best will of course vary a lot according to your colouring.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 21/08/2022 13:15

Black works for me. I also love navy and dark brown, bottle green etc. Lighter colours do nothing for me.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 21/08/2022 13:22

I once read a quote from Jullianne Moore who said a stylist told her to wear a lot of black as she already carries enough colour around with her.

I always think that if you wanted to put an autumnal leaf in a frame you wouldn’t frame it/boarder it with more autumnal colours, you would pair it with either black or another dark colour or even white to make it stand out. Same with hair.

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/08/2022 13:52

My hair is just a bit brighter than hers @Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree and I look dreadful in black. Perhaps it's her skin tone. That stylists advice makes me feel a bit sad, like she didn't really like red hair.

merryhouse · 21/08/2022 14:00

I've always worn loads of black.

Deep greens are my go-to - especially for occasion dresses. Purples mix it up a bit, but it's not my first choice (possibly because my sister adopted purple very early on?)

I've owned some lovely orange jumpers, both ordinary and burnt. Russet reds.

I'm currently experimenting with various pinks, intending to get deeper and richer as the weather cools.

Givemesunshines · 21/08/2022 14:13

Pinks are a great idea.

ReeseWitherfork · 21/08/2022 14:22

A lot of burgundy, mustard, and dark green. Cool skin too.

ReeseWitherfork · 21/08/2022 14:22

Pink looks AWFUL on me.

SocksAndTheCity · 21/08/2022 14:22

Givemesunshines · 21/08/2022 14:13

Pinks are a great idea.

I've very rarely found a pink I can't wear; l like proper shell and baby pink right through to bright cerise and fuschia, although anything darker starts edging into purple/aubergine and doesn't work.

Teal is horrific on me, sadly - it's one of the few blue/green colours I like (along with turquoise which looks equally hideous). I wonder whether it's because I have blue eyes?
