WWW's six week 10year younger boot camp, week 3, all game old (and young) birds welcome

WideWebWitch · 20/01/2008 22:06

Game old birds is a reference to India Knight (who is a mere slip of a girl at age 41 or something) being referred to as a game old bird on this thread

Anyway, this is week 3 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Veils drawn over the weekends indiscretions, onwards!

I've been called some things in my time, but never a game old bird, and I'm 41 lol.

luckylady74 · 20/01/2008 22:29

hi, i joined in the first week and have failed to report back ! I have done as follows
-spf face cream - yes
-had 2 gins twice a week so ok i think
-got my pedometor and have done 10000 plus steps a day - that 10,000 figure i got off the back of a cereal packet so is that a reasonable amount if i'm trying to get fit? i've been doing my ancient ski machine every day, but i've felt very tired!
-2 litres - yes
-all creams yes - even wearing over night foot cream socks to dh's amusement.
-1030 - mostly
-eat healthily - terrible - i have made lovely lentil soup, but this week i have also managed to eat birthday cake(not my birthday) 3 times, doughnut, mincepie and i could go on - any tips on how to get a grip gratefully received - i think i'm an emotional eater, but what do i do instead?
-happy - good - music helping, twins starting preschool still good -though dd having wobbles when i leave them, dh and i made a pact to not shout at the kids and 1 week later it's still working just!
oh well i'll be overweight, but wrinkle free and happy!must run to bed now.

bamamama · 21/01/2008 02:50

hello all, pretty good on the bootcamp front. As dh is still on his weight loss quest we're eating a selection of beans, pulses and veg or, as dh puts it "we've returned to the dark days of vegetarianism" . Also managed to cut back the booze to no more than half a bottle each 2-3 times a week which my liver is thankful for. See what a good influence bootcamp is!

Hope all are well, here's to a good week.

I think my Omron and exercise DVD have eloped in disgust (can't find former and have been very neglectful of latter)
Must turn house over tonight
Good morning all, little of real achievement to report over weekend alas
Am more brisket of beef than game old bird, must get act together this week

PollyDolly · 21/01/2008 11:19

Good morning everyone, hope you are all fine and dandy this Monday morning. Alas I have been stricken by some sort of tummy bug and am feeling distinctly odd. I am off sick today and have packed the kids off to nursery. Am now languishing in my bed trying to read a report when all I want to do is sleep. Looks like it could be difficult to get much done today, but at least i am going to do well on the water stakes.

More later.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/01/2008 11:21

"absolutely in awe of duchess's bootcamping prowess"

Why thank you batters but I've just had a cream doughnut for breakfast!

(And to be fair, most of my exercise is mandatory because of the animals).

marina · 21/01/2008 11:46

Polly, if you are too ill to go to work you should be reading Heat, not a report
Hope you feel better soon

LoveAndSqualor · 21/01/2008 12:23

Good morning, all ...

WWW I read that India Knight piece, very interesting (and something that's been occupying me in recent months). I think she was bang on, actually.

unknownrebel, sorry about your DS's finger! Do they actually do anything, or is it like toes, where they strap them to the next one and leave them to heal themselves?

Batters, looking forward to your report on the Lom!

Very middling weekend for me - DP was away on Saturday and I managed to lose my keys between the high street and my house - got soaked, had to take a taxi to find DP's brother (who has a spare set) and felt Truly Awful by the time I got home (pregnancy seems to have given me motion sickness). Had to lie on sofa for most of the afternoon, which meant that I had to do all the work I was supposed to be doing while DP was away on Sunday, when he was back (to the accompaniment of his harrumphing).

Foodwise not too bad though - muesli, cheese on toast and beetroot, banana, anchovies on toast and tomato salad on saturday; porridge, minestrone soup and more cheese on toast and a couple of squares of millionaires shortbread yesterday. Last night went to ex-boyfriend's wedding reception, which was v nice, but at which no food was provided so raided M&S Simply Food at Richmond Station and ate a cheese ploughman's sandwich and some salt and vinegar french fry-crisp-things on the train on the way home. And then bought a Milky Way at Waterloo! Haven't had one in years. So good.

So far today: toast and peanut butter, banana, water and small cup of coffee. What a wet and miserable Monday it is. Only bright spot on horizon is series six of Curb Your Enthusiasm on TV tonight ...

LoveAndSqualor · 21/01/2008 12:30

ps PollyDolly sorry to hear about upset stomach. That was me last week! bed and water essential.

marina · 21/01/2008 12:59

Dh is all agog re Larry David LAS, he is a huge fan
Sorry about your poor ds' finger unknown

PollyDolly · 21/01/2008 13:07

Thank you for all the kind words. I am ok, just feeling a bit dodgy and needing to know that I can pop to the loo at once without having to negotiate a classroom full of students, the no 68 bus, etc.

L and S, bad luck about the keys. Have you a friendly neighbour who could have a set? I have had to call on my spares 2x in the last week so am grateful they are only next door.

Duchess, both you and L&S are inspirations to us all. When I was pg, I mainlined chocolate hobnobs and lazed around reading mags. No wonder I ended up rather larger than I would like. A bit of exercise is fab though - i had 2 cs and I recovered fairly quickly as I was quite fit. Was out shopping on day 8 both times so can't have been too bad. Mind you, i was the woman who persuaded the in bed TV system to do internet shopping. Better than repeats of Jeremy Kyle.

Must go - am having a panic in my weakened state about everything which needs done so need to do a quick list and calm down.

Iota · 21/01/2008 14:19

Hello all

I had a breakthrough today - I finally went to the gym and did a workout - the first since November, so I had to be gentle with myself, but nevertheless it was a workout.

LoveAndSqualor · 21/01/2008 14:19

Ooh Marina - new series starts tonight on (I think) More4, at 10pm. I've been seeing the adverts for a couple of weeks now and snorting - literally, how attractive - with laughter. Can't wait! Only downside is that my DP sees it not so much as comedy but as a rulebook for how rational people should behave. We have had lengthy discussions on why this is not the case.

Ah PollyDolly - friend of mine who lives round the corner did have a spare set - or so we thought. Spent about half an hour looking for it until we remembered that I'd actually reclaimed them about a year ago for the use of DP's brother [idiocy emoticon]. We'll be getting a new set copied asap!

marina · 21/01/2008 14:26

I think your dp and my dh may have been separated at birth then - mine has a lot of sympathy with Larry although I don't think he has the brass neck to actually behave in this fashion
I am perennially tickled by the juxtaposition of social inferno and jaunty trailer music, love it
So what with Curb Your Enthusiasm and re-runs of the calibre of vintage Father Ted, we're all happy at ours
Well done iota, that's fab

marina · 21/01/2008 14:26

Oh no re keys though what a PITA

FooFooTheSnoo · 21/01/2008 14:29

Today I have been mostly eating...nothing.

See thread here

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/7/461385?stamp=080121140535

I am hoping that misery will do wonders for waitline though.

PollyDolly · 21/01/2008 15:40

Foo, you poor thing, I have replied on your other thread. Take care.

LoveAndSqualor · 21/01/2008 16:31

Marina, . Think I've just about convinced DP that while he might think it perfectly reasonable to respond to any given situation in a Larry-ish fashion, others (particularly me) disagree. Totally with you on the music!

Foo, I'm so sorry to read your news. Really hope you're ok, and have people in RL who're supporting you. Thinking of you.

marina · 21/01/2008 17:25

Foo, it's banal and annoying to hear it I'm sure, but if you can, try and eat, and eat well. You need your wits about you and you need to look after yourself. Winnie will be able to give you lots of pertinent advice I am sure, as she has bootcamped in emotional extremis and been pretty inspirational about it.
Have replied on your other thread. You know how sorry I am to hear your news, and how I wish there was something I could to help.
You can always come and vent on boot camp. We'll dismember him - we need the exercise.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/01/2008 19:57

PD - hope you're feeling a bit better this evening.
L&S - at the lack of buffet. I would have cried. I would definitely have cried about the keys.
Iota - congratulations on using the gym
foo - I'm sorry, it must be such a shock. I have no advice other than to echo marinas comments.

I've had horribly busy day, spent the whole morning driving everybody to schools & stations, bought horse food, walked dog and then had 20 minutes for 'breakfast' before picking DD2 up from pre-school at 12! Hence the cream doughnut. No coffee today as the aga has gone out.

I then ate a seafood sandwich from Waitrose which was delicious, half a box of Cracky Snacky Cheese Hearts and a bowl of chicken soup out of the microwave. Lots and lots of water and lots of face cream because I am so dehydrated all the time.

DH is still in town. But I have finished doing all the animals and will shortly be asleep. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

FooFooTheSnoo · 21/01/2008 19:59

Sorry ladies. I can't eat - have a lump in my throat - literally. I have never felt this bad. Sorry to be a downer on the thread and all that....

Iota · 21/01/2008 20:13

Foo

PollyDolly · 21/01/2008 20:15

Oh Foo, god love you! Can you manage a little bit of soup or somethign to keep your strength up? You don't want to feel dizzy or faint on top of everything else. Take deep breaths and offload as much as you need to.

I will be thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way. Take care XXXXXXX
