I want to treat myself to the Birkenstock sandals- not sure if Arizona are the most comfortable, would prefer suede upper- good for city walking . Can you advise me. Thanks

Big fan of Gizeh here although I've just bought a pair of Kairo and I think they may become my new favourite.

They last for years and I'll happily walk 5 miles or more in them. If I know I'm on my feet all day they are the shoes of my choice.

I didn't like the Arizona and gave them away.

chipsandpeas · 14/08/2022 13:22

i love my gizehs, i much prefer having the toe post
ive walked for miles in the and they have been comfy
im also eyeing up a pair of Mayaris

tithead22 · 14/08/2022 13:32

Love my suede arizonas but would love them more if I’d gone down a size. I’m a 5 in every shoe I’ve ever owned except Birkenstocks. Bought a 4 next time, much better fit. 5s were good when I was pregnant because of the swelling. Could also be because obviously the suede isn’t as stiff as leather 🤷🏻‍♀️

NatMoz · 14/08/2022 13:36

I love my mayaris, they may have one summer left in them though and birkenstocks are so expensive nowadays😫

riojaandcorrie · 14/08/2022 13:40

Arizonas are broader than Gizeh. I've feet like shovels and Arizonas are the only shoes that have ever fitted. If you have a more "normal" foot shape pick another style but if you are broad footed go Arizona. I think they are worth the cash. Soft footbed are easier to break in.

woopdedoodle · 14/08/2022 13:41

I've got Milano , I'm on my third year with them. But every year the first time I wear them they blister my foot arch, same with Arizona before that. So two weeks of hell, for 5 months comfort.

Palmfrond · 14/08/2022 13:41

I’ve got a pair of I think “London”. More like shoes. They look a bit like pasties and are very comfy and also fantastically unattractive, not unlike myself.

Royalicing123 · 14/08/2022 13:47

Thank you everyone so far for your posts- great food for thought. Would love more suggestions if possible to confirm choice- I am a regular fit size 7, what about the softbed ones? Thanks.

I always wear Madrid

Beefilm · 14/08/2022 13:52

I was stunned not long ago to discover I have had my current pair of Arizonas for 9 years! They are the only sandals I wear now and I think nothing of hiking miles in them. I have very wide feet so interesting to read they are wider than other styles.

Re size, definitely go down a size. And yes to the soft flexi soles. I once bought a pair of non flexi soles and they were horrid.

greenacrylicpaint · 14/08/2022 14:00

try them out for size.

the footbed is really uncomfortable if the ridges are in thd wrong positions. if you have very long or very short toes you might need to go up or down a size.

arizona are awsome.

tithead22 · 14/08/2022 14:33

If you have a ‘normal’ foot width as opposed to wide then there’s a narrow size that might fit you better.

CottonSock · 14/08/2022 14:35

The toe posts need wearing in.very uncomfortable initially. I wouldn't walk all day in them.

Changedmynamefor · 14/08/2022 14:36

Mayari’s every time. So comfy and stay on your foot securely. Crisscross straps are adjustable to suit.. I love mine.

DillDanding · 14/08/2022 14:39

I love Arizonas. I used to live in Gizehs, but I like the look of Arizonas better.

i have several pairs, my latest ones have suede uppers.

maizeymazemaze · 14/08/2022 14:40

I got some Arizonas at the beginning of summer, after failing to get on with my Madrids.

I love them!!!!!

monkeyblonde · 14/08/2022 14:51

I wear Tulum and they are so comfortable!

Jumpstark · 14/08/2022 15:11

I find arizona and gizeh really comfortable and found they are true to size. I tried to go down a size but because the footbed is quite contoured it felt wrong at the edges of my feet.

The soft bed ones are comfier straightaway. the classic base you need to wear in for about a week but ultimately you're more comfortable for longer as they mould to the shape of your foot better. The latex cushion in the soft bed means that they don't really conform to your foot after time as they spring back. I'm in classicist so I would stick with the classic rather than the soft bed. But they're more more difficult to get hold of a nice colours

MomwasCasual · 14/08/2022 15:18

I'm living in my Madrid big buckles at the moment. Usually a 5, but I size down to 4.5 in Birkies.

Royalicing123 · 14/08/2022 15:18

Yes its the softbed ones Im thinking off in suede leather -however is there arch and toe support -hard to determine in the new range- Does anyone have a link or photo of their favourite comfortable arizonas- much appreciated. Thanks

Here's an article in the difference

PicketRingFenced · 14/08/2022 20:33

I just got a new pair of suede Arizonas today with softbed and they are incredibly comfortable. I absolutely love them and highly recommend them

PicketRingFenced · 14/08/2022 20:44

The arch and toe posts aren't as pronounced as DDs new Arizonas in leather with standard footbed. DD has higher arches than my flat feet so we have the Arizonas that suit us
