I want to treat myself to the Birkenstock sandals- not sure if Arizona are the most comfortable, would prefer suede upper- good for city walking . Can you advise me. Thanks

Toe support I mean

I had several styles over the years. Now own a pair of Arizona and I find them to be the most comfortable ones of all.
That said, most of them are really comfy so you can’t really go wrong. I’d avoid the single strap style (madrid I think) if you want to do a lot of walking.

I have several pairs of soft footbed Arizonas and I am devoted to them - so comfy. Can't cope with toeposts at all.

They have a bit of arch support but not masses.

Please tell me where I'm going wrong with Birkenstock's! Whenever I try them on in a shop I feel pain. I have plantar fasciitis so am always on the look out for shoes to help my over-pronation.

The first time you try Birks they are often not comfortable. I hated my first pair for the first few wearings and thought I’d made an expensive mistake. The foot bed corrects a whole host of subtle alignments which feels strange and rather unpleasant. Now every style is ok on me even when brand new.

However outright pain on just trying on makes me think they may not be right for you.

Thank you all for your very honest opinions on the birkenstock sandals, still a bit unsure , a little worried about the footbed and feel I definitely need to try on - going to Edinburgh for a few days next week,so if anyone knows of store/shop their that they would recommend, that would be great. Thanks.

Definitely try both regular and narrow styles in your size. I was very surprised that the narrow Arizona was perfect for me by trying it on a whim in the Birkenstocks store. I've had regular width before but the narrow is so much more comfortable for me, and broke in much faster too.

I don't have teeny weeny feet, just standard-width size 5s (with a bunion on one foot). Apparently the narrow is actually designed for the AVERAGE ladies' feet - not tiny - which is what I'd thought.

I have a pair with an ankle strap that I find comfortable and secure. Probably more relaxing for the feet than the ones with one or two straps that make your toes 'claw' as you walk.

Aworldofmyown · 18/08/2022 09:39

I'm a bit disappointed by the quality recently. I bought 2 pairs and the end of the summer last year and they are not looking great at this point this year, soles wearing down etc
They used to last for 2 summers, three at push 😢

Pop into Schuh to try, they have a decent range.
