Hello S&B ladies, I'm looking for some help with choosing a new lipstick.

I'm about to turn 40, have just had surgery, and feel like I need a bit of a boost. I've seen CT mentioned a fair bit but have never invested much money in my make up. I don't wear it often, but would like a really good nude and a stunning red lipstick to wear to brighten myself up. The thing is, I live nowhere near anywhere that sells these products, so will have to buy online.

I have dyed red hair, green eyes and am pale skinned. Can anyone help me out with a suggestion on what shade to try please?

I would say avoid. The one I bought was horrible, cakey and drying.

Dior do lovely lipsticks?

Squirrelsnut · 29/07/2022 22:06

Pillow Talk seems very popular and is a beautiful pinky nude.

1stTimeMama · 29/07/2022 22:13

Ooh, noted and I'll have a look. Do you suggest any particular colour?

Pillow Talk seems very popular and is a beautiful pinky nude.

I did see that one, or Mrs Kisses looked similar.

I have similar colouring to you and I found Pillow Talk washed me out too much, but I really like Secret Salma which is kind of mauvy and really suits me and I would repurchase. I also have Lost Cherry which is a bright pinky/red, it’s nice and suits my colouring but I wouldn’t repurchase.

habsboys2020 · 29/07/2022 22:17

Mac Ruby woo is a beautiful red lipstick

AnnieSnap · 29/07/2022 22:44

I prefer CT lipsticks to any others I have used (including Channel, YSL & Goulain (sp)). I find them very moisturising and long lasting. I like a matt lipstick, but they do them in several finishes. I have the original pillow talk (they do two others now for different skin tones) for my nude and several others too. The CT website has a little algorithm where you can see the colour on yourself. It’s not a perfect process, but it’s not bad.

Elodie09 · 29/07/2022 22:46

CT Patsy red in the animal print case. The best lipstick ever.

Thanks all, quite a few options to go through and decide on!

Don’t get pillow talk, I have similar colouring to you and it drains all the life out of my face

Charlieiscool · 30/07/2022 02:32

Lost Cherry and Secret Salma are both good

learieonthewildmoor · 30/07/2022 04:39

Before buying anything, google the lipstick swatch. You’ll see the lipstick on lips and arms and it gives a much better idea of the colour than the website.
Nars Audacious lipstick has Anita and Barbara - a pink and brown nude respectively, and Rita which is a blue red.

Mercurial123 · 30/07/2022 05:18

I like CT lipsticks but Lisa Eldridge is amazing quality.

JMAngel1 · 30/07/2022 07:18

MAC Brick or Lady Danger would be amazing on you.
MAC Twig or Hug Me or Patisserie would be a great nude.
Pillow Talk makes me look like I’ve been dug up. Similar colouring as you but strawberry blonde, NC20 and green amber eyes.

JMAngel1 · 30/07/2022 07:19

Sorry not Brick, Chilli!

Velvettia · 30/07/2022 07:24

For a really good nude lipstick, I’d recommend Bobbi Brown Uber Nude with your colouring.

(haven’t tried CT or Lisa Eldridge yet).

JMAngel1 · 30/07/2022 08:47

Ooh that Uber Nude looks nice. A bit like MAC Taupe but warmer. May have to investigate.

RJnomore1 · 30/07/2022 10:15

Sorry I’m a bit late coming back but Dior 740 Club might be nice on you. It’s a lovely formulation too.

1stTimeMama · 30/07/2022 11:05

This has been so helpful, thanks everyone, excited to treat myself to something lovely!

Lipsticks can be v difficult as how they go on may not be the same as the colour you are expecting. After MANY years and ££££ buying lipsticks that looked fine initially and then went a funny colour after a bit. - for example raspberry that ended up being yellow I went to see Juan at Code 8 He does video consultations too and her made me three lipsticks, one pink , one nude and one red that is all I wear now. www.codeeight.com/bespoke-lipstick-creation-experience. I did them one at a time as I didn't quite believe the hype but he really is that good I have gone back for more. It is an expensive outlay at first but has saved me so much money. As well as looking so much better.

Amortentia · 30/07/2022 13:38

I have similar colouring and find CT Very Victoria suits me really well, it’s a pinky brown nude. Pillow talk looks a bit weird and orange on me but if your looking for a subtle red go for MI kiss (it used to be called Bond Girl).

Deathraystare · 30/07/2022 15:46

I am not normally a nude person as I love bright lipstick, but I did buy the Charlotte Tilbury Mrs Kisses and (if you like that sort of thing) it was a your lips but better shade on me and went on very well for a matte.

Goldengoosey · 30/07/2022 20:41

I had high hopes of Pillow Talk as it was advertised as a pinky nude. I’m similar colouring to it. It was really brown on me. I wear CT Kidman’s Kiss.

poppypetal · 30/07/2022 20:54

CT’s ‘Liv it up’ is a lovely pinky nude. Lippy’s are so personal though, you’d be best to go to a counter and try a few x

peonyprincess · 01/08/2022 20:49

Charlotte Tilbury ‘Very Victoria’
Rimmel ‘Asia’
Mac ‘Modesty’
..all part of my extensive lippy collection!!
