Cool cotton dresses

I've spent the last few weeks wearing nightdresses in the house as they are cool, it makes me feel more productive if I dress in proper clothes though. Has anyone seen cheap, sleeveless cotton dresses about knee height?

Have you tried Seasalt?

Hippoallergenic · 27/07/2022 18:12

Thanks, but a bit expensive. These are just to wear at home so can't justify that much as only family and postman will see!

Next sometimes have them in the sale. It's hard to find cotton at low prices these days.

Bigwetdog · 27/07/2022 18:17

Cotton isn't cheap and nor should it be - it uses a tonne of resources to make

I don't mean silly-cheap. Are they not better environmentally (genuine question). If not, do you happen to know the coolest man made fibre is?

Viscose/rayon is cool and made from wood pulp. Check washing instructions as some is more delicate than others. I got a lovely viscose Indian style print maxi dress with sleeves from our market for just £25. Worth looking at markets.

Supermarkets also often have cotton or viscose dresses. Just check their websites.

faretheewell · 27/07/2022 18:32

This is 100% cotton

pinkhousesarebest · 27/07/2022 18:34

Vînted. Cheap and guilt free.

My go-to for cotton dresses is H&M. In amongst the polyester/viscose horrors are some amazing cotton dresses. My absolute favourite is the blue ruffle dress they did last year

Not cotton but very cool to wear

Why don't people like viscose? I know some of the processing leaves a bit to be desired but you can get sustainable versions and it is a natural fibre. A lot of cotton is heavily processed too.

Next have this one:

It comes in petite length so might be good.

Everything I’ve had in viscose doesn’t wear or wash well. It gets touted a lot as sustainable but often you end up with a cheap looking product.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 27/07/2022 18:45

Have a look at second hand (pre-loved) selling sites on FB. Or freecycle sites.

minipie · 27/07/2022 18:50

H&M, Gap and Uniqlo are good sources for cotton or linen. H&M you can filter by material to narrow right down.

I definitely find viscose sweatier than cotton or linen. Maybe just me.

Oh. That's not been my experience. The viscose pieces I have had have been great and look nice too - some I have had for years and are still good.

Pruella · 27/07/2022 18:57

I find viscose wears fine too, I make a lot of my clothes and like sewing with it. I’ve never understood the horror of it on here.

Seasaalt have really good sales and if you look on Louise's Closet you can buy seconds and old stock.
