How can I get salon blow dried look at home when I’m utterly incompetent with a haidryer

Just went to the hairdresser yesterday for a cut and blow dry and omg, my hair looks and feels like hair instead of the usual garden broom. I HAVE to learn how to do this myself. I don’t have a dressing table and skills. I can’t afford to go for a blow dry once a week. Please teach my blow dry for dummies? I have longish thickish straight hair that s super drrrrry.

Me too. I really want to learn as well

Revlon One Step. Dry first with a hair drier then finish off , absolutely brilliant.

Arenanewbie · 27/07/2022 12:51

Following shamelessly OP, I’ve got fine soft hair but in the same boat , I can’t blow dry my hair at home. They go all different height and in different directions somehow and if I put styling products they are weighting hair down.
Hope someone will come with the advice.

Shoulder length fine hair owner and the only way I can get a decent finish on mine is by using a hair oil and my Babyliss Big Hair. If I use a hairdryer then I look like I’ve got a shredded wheat on my head.

SirChenjins · 27/07/2022 12:51

Babyliss Big Hair (which doesn't give you big Dynasty hair, I promise) is your friend. Apply serum or whatever you use, blast your hair with the hairdryer until it's almost dry, then section off your hair and run the BBH through it (tutorials are on Youtube). Et voila, swishy hair without needing to be an expert on blow drying Smile

But not if you have thick hair! It won't even go through mine.

Following in desperation. No idea how I've reached this age and still completely unable to dry my hair in a way that looks even vaguely attractive. I end up giving up, letting it air dry and looking like I've slept in a hedge 😒

Perple · 27/07/2022 12:59

Just orders the baby bliss big hair - looking forward to my life changing 😁

Rwealere · 27/07/2022 13:03

Is this an advert for babyliss big hair coz like most things advertised I found it made matters worse. I’m slightly tempted to try revlon one step but I just know I’ll be wasting more money and have yet something else messing up my table that I can’t manage to throw out! Sorry op whatsoever

LaWench · 27/07/2022 13:04

Babyliss big hair or Revlon volumiser. I have long thick hair which doesn't need any more volume tbh but they both dry it straight and swishy. As mine is thick, I do need to section it. Swipe over a smidge of serum or hair oil afterwards.

I was given one. It has proved a failure for the person who gave it to me and also for me.
Maybe we're using it wrong!

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 27/07/2022 13:06

My hair is medium thick and I love the Babyliss Big Hair. Get some good sectioning clips; get some nice serum.

Rwealere · 27/07/2022 13:06

Oops, I thought the revlon was a hair serum just looked it up!

Deguster · 27/07/2022 13:06

Babyliss big hair did nowt for me…

I second this

mummabubs · 27/07/2022 13:08

Revlon One Step dryer, 1000%!!!

I managed to get mine on sale one Christmas, but I think Asda have it on sale at the moment. It's utterly amazing, it used to take me 20 mins easily just to get my thick hair to dry with a conventional hairdryer and that didn't include styling. Takes me 10 mins max now to blow dry my hair and it's sleek and styled like the salon used to do it. (I've never been able to blowdry style my hair myself before).

KalaniM · 27/07/2022 13:20

Ok, yes! Thankyou. I’m going to try the finishing with revlon one step. It’s a hot brush, it looks manageable.

sectioning and clips sounds like it’s too hard and I’ll get in a mess. . I have to improve on this, I feel a different person today with swishy hair. I hadn’t realised how undermining it is having witchy hair.

The Revlon one step is useless for me, it takes ages and leaves it all flyaway. The Babyliss Big Hair is much better, but I do need to part dry it first with a hairdryer and section it.

I do have thick hair!

Plumtreebob · 27/07/2022 13:33

I have fine hair but lots of it if that makes sense. I use the Dyson Air Wrap but I appreciate it gets mixed opinions and is expensive. I love it though, I have to wash my hair very regularly as it’s so fine and gets greasy. 10 mins from dripping wet to salon blowout. I’ve had lots of compliments since I started using it.

WorriedMutha · 27/07/2022 13:34

I watched YouTube tutorials to try and decide between the two. I opted for the Babyliss and it was a game changer for me.

Not as thick as mine then, I can't even get it through mine, it's useless.

I didn’t rate the Revlon one at all. Clipping/sectioning makes it sound far too complicated - I just use a claw clip so I can use the BBH on the section I want. I have thick hair though, so if I try and use it on too much hair it doesn’t work.

Katrinawaves · 27/07/2022 13:36

A keratin blow dry is a game changer for a straight blow dry. It costs about £100 in salon near me (London) and it lasts about 3 months. You get that salon look every time you wash even if you just give your hair a quick blast with the hairdryer.

Otherwise if you like a bouncy wavy blow dry, the Dyson air wrap is pretty good

Are you using it on small sections?
