How can I get salon blow dried look at home when I’m utterly incompetent with a haidryer

Just went to the hairdresser yesterday for a cut and blow dry and omg, my hair looks and feels like hair instead of the usual garden broom. I HAVE to learn how to do this myself. I don’t have a dressing table and skills. I can’t afford to go for a blow dry once a week. Please teach my blow dry for dummies? I have longish thickish straight hair that s super drrrrry.

The Revlon and BBh didn’t work for me.

keratin blow dry is very effective. Mine lasted for ages.

However as I’ve got older I’ve just decided to spend more money on the problem so I just get as many blow dries as I can afford.

my salon does a loyalty thing so can get quite a good deal.

Does the revlon one step rotate like the babyliss??

magaluf1999 · 27/07/2022 21:50

Revlon one step here too.

I let it air dry whilst i do other things so its 80% dry. I then section off-but literally just scoop the top half up with a big clip. So 1/2 sections.

Then it takes me about 3-5 mins.

I like that i get volume and bounce and dont have to use straighteners.

Much easier then a hairdryer with better results.

willowstar · 27/07/2022 22:02

I am useless with hair.

I didn't get on with the babyliss big hair at all. I much prefer the Revlon one step. There are YouTube videos comparing the two which might help you to decide

No it doesn't.

willowstar · 27/07/2022 22:04

@Sarah8719 the Revlon one step does not rotate. You can use it like a brush or wind sections of hair around it while it blows out warm air

I was given one. It has proved a failure for the person who gave it to me and also for me.
Maybe we're using it wrong!

I've had the same experience with the babyliss. It didn't work for me or the person who gave it to me.
A ghd brush and hairdryer was better. Still not the salon blow-dry look.

Babyliss big hair. Every time!

AdelaideRo · 27/07/2022 23:20

I got my hairdresser to give me a lesson and bought a salon grade hairdryer (Parlux Alyon).

I'm still not as slick as her but with some sectioning clips, a round brush and some blow dry products I can get a reasonable finish.

bluegardenflowers · 28/07/2022 10:57

Good shampoo and lots of conditioner. Blow dry with your head down to give it body, then use straighteners on the ends of the hair.

I have the Alyon too, fab isn't it?

I'd look like Worzel Gummidge if I did that 😂

cathyandclare · 28/07/2022 11:39

Another coming on to advocate Parlux hairdryers and Colour Wow Dream Coat, when I use it my hair is shiny and swishy for days

I cant be bothered with sectioning etc but I now have a GHD hot brush and that does the trick. Rough dry my hair then brush through and under with the hot brush until smooth. I also like the Label M rejuvenating oil, not too heavy just enough to calm fly aways.

There are a couple of GHD hot brushes I see, one for smoothening and one for volumisung. Is it the glide you use? The smoothening one? It’s appealing to me that you don’t even section.

the ghd is much more ££ than the revlon. Why?! is it just marketing or is actually there a qualitative difference.

Also why is the dyson sooooo good and so £££. It’s mean of them to be apparently so much better and to charge so much!

I’ve ordered the ghd heat protector spray to use with the revlon brush. I’m going to persevere and if necessary work my through these tools hopefully losing some cack handedness along the way.

.if a local salon offered a weekly blow dry scheme at a reasonable price I’d be tempted. But tbh a reasonable price for me would probably be not worth it to them I wish I had a bigger budget. Hey ho.

I’m also interested to know the difference between the GHD hot brush and the Revlon, can anyone advise

MaudieTipstaff · 28/07/2022 15:05

The dyson hairdryer with the fly away attachment. My hair looks so good my hairdresser asked if I'd been to someone else when I bumped into her at the shops.

Iorderedyouapancake · 28/07/2022 18:17

I have the BBH and the Revlon 1 step, and love them both for different reasons (I also had a Dyson air wrap but sold it recently - I really didn’t think it was in any way worth the money!). The BBH takes longer and requires more effort sectioning your hair but gives more volume and a more “salon” style blow dried look. The revlon is quicker and easier and gives a more “natural” look in my opinion. I wouldn’t be without either of them, but definitely use the revlon more often just because I’m always running late in the mornings!

Coastalcreeksider · 28/07/2022 18:36

My Revlon One Step is on it's way! Hooray!!😆

I'm really quite excited and can't wait to use it. Really hoping it will improve my hairstyling skills such as they are.

Look at some you tube videos on how to use it. I must stress the news to rough dry it before hand or you'll be there forever!

MissMarpleRocks · 28/07/2022 18:56

If it’s ok Please can someone make a
recommendation please for which Revlon onestep - thin, flyaway shoulder length hair. TIA

cowsaysmoo · 28/07/2022 19:06

I know it's expensive but I can't recommend enough Dyson air wrap. EVERY SINGLE TIME my hair look like I stepped out of a hair salon. And it literally takes 5 minutes (shoulder length)

Coastalcreeksider · 28/07/2022 19:06

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor:

Have looked at some videos already but will have another look when I get it.

I do rough dry my hair normally so will continue to do so. Had my hair cut and restyled this morning so it should be a lot easier to blow dry properly and take less time to do it with the One Step.
