Heatwave: what will you be wearing?

I have decided to sod it and wear shorts. For the first time ever at 48. Have always previously avoided them but just can't be bothered caring anymore. So shorts and a strappy vest from H&M it is, as I don't want to throw much money at this short lived event. That said, the heatwaves of the past few summers where I live have been endless, sweaty affairs with no air.

What will you be wearing?

I will likely alternate the shorts with some linen trousers with the same strappy vests. I only own 2 pairs of summer footwear (birks and some trainers) so no problem there.

So, slap a bit of Dove Spa on my legs and arms and off I go into the breathless void..

Shorts from next which are mega flattering and comfy with a long tall sally vest i got in 3 colours as I love it so much Grin

DSGR · 09/07/2022 16:18

Cotton and jersey dresses, I own dozens and they always see me through hot weather

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/07/2022 16:20

Normal clothes, it’s 20 degrees tops in the NE and I’ve just had to come inside from the garden as I had goosebumps.

ShowOfHands · 09/07/2022 16:23

I always wear long sleeves and often floor length stuff. Dresses, kaftans, trousers, tops etc but they're always oversized, loose and made from linen or similar. Topped off with a hat. I'm usually far cooler than friends who look like they're wearing less but actually if it's tight fitting or the wrong fabric, it doesn't help.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/07/2022 16:26

Cotton or silk dresses. Loose fit. Very cooling in the heat.

Alexaspartyline · 09/07/2022 16:27

Yes, tight fitting is a bit much in the heat.
I always sweat more in hats, it really annoys me. Wish i could find a decent one that doesn't drench my hair.

I think it said over 30 degrees for the north west here, will have to double check!

Oversized cotton harems, shorts, oversized tshirts or vests with a shirt.

TitInATrance · 09/07/2022 16:53

Knee length open-pleated cotton skirt, vest top, matching straw hat. I usually wear cotton or linen sleeveless shifts when it’s like this, fancied a change.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/07/2022 16:54

Cotton shirt linen trousers, which is what I wear in summer anyways.

MintJulia · 09/07/2022 17:05

linen tailored shorts and thin sleeveless cotton tops from Seasalt. Or long linen skirts and cotton tops. Or I have a few cotton/linen dresses.

Basically, loose, natural fibres, no jersey or knit materials. Sandals or deck shoes depending on what I'm doing.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 10/07/2022 07:12

My work life is boiling, sweaty and not air-conditioned (bus/train/tube/office), and I work somewhere with a conservative dress code, so I'll be wearing loose-fitting midi dresses.

Rina66 · 10/07/2022 07:22

I thought these Kit & Kaboodle linen shorts look good, shirred waist, pockets, loads of colours and only £17

StarlightLady · 10/07/2022 07:30

Long summer dress, no knickers!

SausageAndCash · 10/07/2022 07:35

Cotton or cotton : linen blend sleeveless shift dresses.

Loose fitting and airy.

Fairislefandango · 10/07/2022 08:26

It says max 22° here (Cumbria) so jeans and a t-shirt as normal!

DontKeepTheFaith · 10/07/2022 08:38

I’m on a walking holiday up north so not quite so hot as where I come from on the south coast.

I bought some ‘skorts’ from decathlon which are awesome for walking for a slight fatty like me. Shorts make me look ridiculous, these are definitely more flattering. Coupled with a comfy T shirt and a hat because my scalp burns.

I won’t win any fashion awards, I look like an overweight middle aged woman dressed for comfort🤣

Have some wrap dresses and sandals for the evenings.

DoingJustFine · 10/07/2022 08:44

A hospital gown next week as I'm in for an operation. 😅 Is it hit in hospitals?

DoingJustFine · 10/07/2022 08:44

Shinyandnew1 · 10/07/2022 21:33

I hate shorts-they look dreadful on me, so tend to wear skirts or dresses and Birkenstocks

I like these! 😊

YorkieTheRabbit · 10/07/2022 22:28

Yesterday black cotton dress from Next and flip flops
today, pink linen dress from Next and flip flops, both of these dresses are from last summer
tomorrow will be another dress, either joules or M&S, I find dresses more comfy than shorts.

ChilliPB · 10/07/2022 23:06

It’s been mid 20s here in Edinburgh and forecast to be around 20 all week so normal summery clothes for me! Do not miss the horrible heatwaves in London 🥵
