What was the last perfume that was so bad you had to scrub it straight off?

Maison Margiela Replica Beach Walk for me.

Was hoping for something salty and coconutty and beachy in a fresh way. Got cloying ylang-ylang with a hunt of synthetic suncream and very little else. Really dated and old lady ish, like it could be by Yardley. Awful awful awful.

Glad I only bought a sample.

Thanks Pellegrino - I got a dupe from another company and it's a poor substitute, I'll give that one a try.

I wear it a lot but I haven't got any of the original to compare it to. I find the oils better than than the sprays. Put it on and leave it for a bit then smell it, takes a while to dry down.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 03/07/2022 16:19

Aww angel is my all time fave! I cant stand chanel no 5, smells like a dodge nursing home 🤢

GetOffTheTableMabel · 03/07/2022 16:26

Tom Ford Portofino. I had been keen to try it and sprayed myself liberally with it at Duty Free in the airport and I knew straight away it had been a big mistake. It smelt like cheap lemon bathroom cleaner on me and I couldn’t get it off during the flight home. I needed a proper shower to get rid of it.

I don’t get on with Chanel either. I really don’t get the pure lust for it!!

Squills · 03/07/2022 16:35

Angel Les Parfums de Cuir

I like 'dark' fragrances but I found this to be totally overpowering

FancyFelix · 03/07/2022 16:36

God, so many of my favourites have been mentioned on this thread BlushConfused

The only one I've scrubbed off in recent memory was Santal 33, I smelled like a dirty old tramp. Definite odour of stale urine and it lasted for ages.

CornishTiger · 03/07/2022 16:37

I used to wear Coco mademoiselle until pregnant. Then I felt sick. Gave a nearly new bottle to a friend then she made me feel sick!!

I used to wear Allure. I need to try that again!

I tried a dupe of La vie est belle. The after notes made me feel ill yet the real thing is fine.

Anyone else hate people buying them perfumes?

Idunnowhyibother · 03/07/2022 16:38

McQueen - used to obsessively wear it but stopped 2 years ago. Wearing it corresponded with a hideous period in my life. Smelt it on someone walking past me the other day and it nearly floored me! Rank druggy smell with a bitter aftertaste - but it might just have been me! Happy with my Tiger By Her Side now!

Chevyimpala67 · 03/07/2022 16:43

Anything by chanel, guerlain and mugler...

Yuck yuck yuck

Anything sweet and cloying (I call them pink mingers...)

Ikeabag · 03/07/2022 16:58

Laughing at pink mingers! I like some Guerlain, though - and Tuberose too, which was mentioned upthread. I love violet too. Years ago I worked in a really crap call centre (if you're from the NE you'll know the one) and someone on my floor wore bucketloads of one of the Britney ones. How I didn't murder anyone, I'll never know. I have a real aversion to something in D&G light blue, it's like a weird dairy note - someone bought it for me when it was absolutely everywhere and I couldn't touch it. I also once spilled a mini bottle of Tresor over my little Nokia and it always reminds me of that period of bad decisions made with a dissolving plastic phone case as a sidekick.

Ikeabag · 03/07/2022 16:59

Remembered what else I was going to write: CK Euphoria. I liked it briefly then suddenly I went off it. I accidentally bought shampoo that smelled like it when pregnant and horribly sick and I couldn't even look at the bottle.

Catcatcat12 · 03/07/2022 14:04

Chanel anything unfortunately. Just don’t work on me (and I honestly think Chanel No 5 is pretty bad on everyone…! Old lady smell)

I agree apart from Chance, which DH bought as a gift and it smells great on but No. 5 smells like cat piss on my wrists.

Ikeabag · 03/07/2022 17:04

I like Alien - and there's something in it that's also in the original Anna Sui, which I miss lots. I hate spicebomb.

Atomicspider · 03/07/2022 17:04

Tom Ford Tabac Vanille or whatever it’s called. Makes me so ill. Shame because I love the idea of it and that playdoughey tobacco shop smell, but in that blend.. 🤮

Birdy1066 · 03/07/2022 17:18

JM Pomegranate Noir - smells great on other people, smells on me like cat pee.

CarpeVitam · 03/07/2022 17:23

YSL Rive Gauche 😫

bloodybindweed · 03/07/2022 17:43

Angel has always been my nemesis. I can smell it a mile off and makes me feel physically sick.
The only only one I've ever had an instant migraine from was Very Valentino. I didn't even spray it. Took the lid off and instant migraine. I have worn the same perfume for over 20 years. DKNY original. I have tried many different things. Jo Malone and Creed but nothing else matches my need for light and citrus.

GoldPig · 03/07/2022 17:51

Kenzo Flower smells lovely sprayed into the air but on me quickly smells like baby powder and makes me think of sanitary products for some reason. I just wanted to smell like Parma violets ☹️

Can I ask did you find a nice beach coconut/salty perfume in the end you can recommend?

Samsara

I was going to say that ine too. I sprayed a bit in my wrist and all the way home I felt sick. As soon as I got home I scrubbed it off.

WhenPushComesToShove · 03/07/2022 17:57

Way back in the day, YSL Ysatis - completely vile. Sprayed it on and had to shower immediately as I felt utterly nauseous. The original Dior Poison - horribly nose grabbingly strong. Anyone remember Georgio by Georgio Armani. Some of these perfumes were actually barred in certain restaurants as they were so over powering

GoldPig · 03/07/2022 18:06

My headmistress used to drown herself in Poison. It was a useful early warning as you could smell her before she walked down the corridor

Try estee lauder bronze goddess

Justcashnosweets · 03/07/2022 18:15

Penhaligon's Halefeti. I bought a sample after reading rave reviews. Its one of the worst perfumes I have ever smelled 🤢 second only to Alien. 🤢

Justcashnosweets · 03/07/2022 18:18

Sorry, meant Angel, not Alien!
