Travelling to Boston in August for work... are there any must haves to look for in the shops while I'm there?

Years ago I remember jeans / trainers always being great to buy in the states as they were much cheaper, is that still the case?

OP posts:

Definitely Secret antiperspirant, melatonin, mega strength Vit D, big tubs of painkillers, crest whitening strips.
I bought a Coach handbag in Boston a few weeks ago, was slightly cheaper than here but not much.
Definitely go out to Assembly though.

Abercrombie in Faneuil for t shirts, sweats and stuff for teens.

I was a big fan of Crate and Barrel, but I see they've closed their store.

OP take the Duck Tour, great fun!

Excedrin! Best headache reliever ever.

calmlakes · 02/07/2022 15:03

The exchange rate for the pound is currently pretty bad so you won't find many bargains.

I would just pick up small things you like despite the price and melatonin.

OP the aquariums pretty decent they have penguins - but even if you decide doing it go up to it as you can see the sea lions from the outside

Mikayla Noguiera. She’s a tik tocker. Amazing girl. Beautiful make up line. Has gone from nothing to massive in 2 years.

Dawn dishwashing soap, Bar Keepers Best Friend & Vicks Vapour shower tablets

StrawberriesAndCreamPlease · 10/07/2022 17:07

I bought some Sam Edelman sandals that were much cheaper. Bath and body works is available over here now

pepperaunt · 10/07/2022 18:37

I grew up in Boston. Massachusetts used to have no sales tax for purchases under $175 (haven’t been there in 3 years so not sure).,.

We used to bring so
much back to the UK with us but I agree with everyone else that there are no real bargains any more. I load up with giant bottles of painkillers: Advil (ibuprofen), Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Aleve (not sold over the counter here but the best for period cramps). Also melatonin. I go for 5 mg.

SkeletonFight · 10/07/2022 21:17

Melatonin and gummy vitamins from CVS or Target - so much cheaper then here.
No need for Bath and Bodyworks as you can buy here
Jeans - Levis definitely cheaper but try to get to an outlet.
Tarte - I love this stuff and usually go to Ulta.
Exchange rate has killed any real bargains. I can remember 2 dollars to 1 pound days. Go to www.boston-discovery-guide.com/wrentham-outlets.html.

Things I regret not buying more of (I'm not in the UK so I don't know if you can get these easily)

Maybelline Snapscara Mascara (my fave is the cherry one)

Elf eye shadow

Gas relief tablets! I am an ibs sufferer and pay a fortune for Iberogast drops. In the US pharmacies are racks of stomach related items. I did have a laugh at the name, got a huge tub of 100 for next to nothing. They really worked well, and now I am back to paying plenty for the drops instead.

Not sure if you get them in the UK, but my dd is a dancer, and in US you can buy the bobby pins that are slightly bent to fit the shape of the head better when putting hair into a bun for eg. Hardly the most crucial thing in the world, but I thought pretty inventive and they worked so well. Of course we didn't buy enough of those, as we all know how they go missing.

Pink range underwear from Victoria Secret. Their bras just fit me so well and I cannot find an exact replacement.

Sports wear. We found Old Navy leggings amazing quality for the price. None of this bend over and see your knickers nonsense with them. They have been so well worn, and you would never say, they wash so well and keep their shape.

I am sure there will be more if I mull over it long enough...

Suchalicklepumpkin · 12/07/2022 14:09

I find trainers to be far superior in the US. I try to walk 20,000 steps each day. I got ages out of Sketchers I bought in JC P*nneys compared to the "same" brand and style I bought here in Sp0rts Direct. There was a huge difference in quality.

Fifi0102 · 12/07/2022 18:21

Mist sun screen so easy to apply they sell it everywhere over there. The exchange rate is shite so I didn't buy much just Kate Spade bag and a few t shirts also azo UTI pills are amazing and much better pain relief than anything else for bladder pain. They are so expensive over here.

1ittlegreen · 12/07/2022 18:45

Secret gel deodorant, you van get it on amazon though, I think I pay £13 for 2.

Painkillers with melatonin - double whammy.

Sephora own brand products, really very good.

Crest whitening strips, just the basic 10 pack is good enough I think.

Target is so good for so many things, particularly clothes.

Doen is ace and a lot cheaper if you can find it, beautiful clothes that only ship to UK if your order over $300.

Have you found a secret seller on amaxon that’s not selling fakes? So many around at the moment. I managed to get a refund on an order at the start of the year for being fake but it took a bit of a battle with Amazon.

Mercurial123 · 13/07/2022 12:34

IHerb sell Secret Gel deodorant . Not in the UK so have no idea of shipping is good value.
