Travelling to Boston in August for work... are there any must haves to look for in the shops while I'm there?

Years ago I remember jeans / trainers always being great to buy in the states as they were much cheaper, is that still the case?

I love Banana Boat Factor 110 suncream and always buy it in the states; I've never found it in the UK

Also, Target clothing is always good.

Crest white strips

jay55 · 30/06/2022 19:53

I always succumb to the small perfume sprays in Sephora, the range is just huge. Been too long since I've been to know if prices are still cheaper.

And any peanut butter snacks, especially the filled pretzels.

Crest white strips

Old Navy Boxer shorts are fab. Great loud prints and always hood for stocking presents for teens

Triple Antibiotic cream, a trip to Walmarts for mega bottles of Ibuprofen capsules , Dream Sleep for Jetlag , travel size everything ! and Melatonin .Also Smart Mouthwash sachets

HundredMilesAnHour · 30/06/2022 20:06

Secret brand solid anti-perspirant deodorant sticks (much better than any brand I've ever tried anywhere in the world!)

Williams-Sonoma kitchenware, especially their Star Wars branded spatulas and burger flippers (my adult male friends go crazy for them lol)

Old Navy T-shirts / shackets - still good value if you buy them on sale, even with the exchange rate and sales tax

newtb · 30/06/2022 20:22

You can get melatonin on Amazon. From memory 19mg, the eu maximum

Yodaisawally · 01/07/2022 00:04

Not much.

Ranitidine from Costco.

Shopping isn't good value anymore in US.

I had used Mitchum for years but found myself starting to get a bit sweaty with it. When I was planning our Florida holiday, I was on some Facebook planning pages where this question came up often. Along with bath and body works, secret was mentioned most often so decided to give it a try. It really works for me. Amazon will send it over and it’s not too expensive or you can get it on one of the USA Facebook shopping pages.

MrsAshleyWilkes · 01/07/2022 06:59

I think I'm going to need a bigger case...! 😂

Totally agree. I used to go to the US with work a lot and bought some Secret when I was there once when my own travel deodorant ran out. Amazing stuff!!

Since then I don't use anything else. I stock up on US trips but when Covid got in the way, I ordered it off Amazon. Now I'm fully stocked up again after a couple of US trips earlier this year.

They do quite a few scents. I LOVE the vanilla one! The sticks are so much better than anything else I've tried (and I used to live somewhere hot and humid in Asia so have a lot of deodorant trying experience, ha).

Lucky brand T shirts, Patagonia (if you are into that) Target for cheap mascara.

I’m a fan of 6 hours in Macy’s and 2 in Sephora. Do not take anyone into Sephora with you, this should be a period of quiet contemplation.

MsOllie · 01/07/2022 09:57

Tree hut scrubs if you like a really scrubby body scrub

warofthemonstertrucks · 01/07/2022 10:41

Candles from bath and body works. And their shower gel etc is also lovely

You made me laugh with Sephora!
I'm trying to see the us website but it won't let me look - time for a vpn?

eos lip balm (its oftem $2 in US and £5 here)
old navy basic t-shirts/tops and hoodies.

Chemenger · 01/07/2022 17:52

I lived in Boston for a while. Take the orange line out to Assembly, there are loads of outlet stores there. Shopping in downtown Boston isn’t that amazing. Loft, as mentioned by a PP, is good, but the shop beside Faneuil Hall always smells horrible ( of poo, it’s weird), the outlet at Assembly is nicer. At Faneuil there is Urban Outfitters, Abercrombie and Sephora. Some nice smaller shops on Newbury Street, as well as Anthropologie and Muji. The Mall at Prudential has Eataly, for a lovely lunch and some good, but pricy, shops. The exchange rate isn’t going to be in your favour at the moment, I don’t things will be much cheaper than here.

So funny story - their tagline is "strong enough for a man, but made for a woman." My brother took it seriously and used it all his life. 😂

Dove Deodorant is actually great, too! I like both and just pick whichever is cheaper.

wonderstuff · 02/07/2022 09:45

Maple syrup. Just running out of the big bottle we bought at Easter, much cheaper in the US.
