Best SPF for under makeup?

Rubygloomy · 28/06/2022 07:28

Never worn anything more specific than random body suncream on my face.

Would like something a little more tailored.

Any recommendations please?

Budget £25

La Roche Posay do one which is factor 50 and sits quite well under makeup. I just put my normal moisturiser and primer etc on top

heidihigh · 28/06/2022 07:46

I use the Olay whips. There's 2 (maybe 3) versions but they do them with SPF in. Moisturiser and SPF in one and make up applies beautifully over the top

MissMarpleRocks · 28/06/2022 07:47

I’ve used Avene moisturiser before with built in spf. Think I got it in boots. It was quite good I seem to remember. Foolishly I didn’t take a photo of it. I also use Simple face moisturiser with spf 30. Think the Avene was better though.

Altruist is amazing and doesn't cost a fortune. I got it on Amazon. It is frequently recommended in Beauty columns and works brilliantly with my sensitive skin

Annoyedwithmyself · 28/06/2022 07:56

Thank you farmer light sun essence.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/06/2022 07:57

Dermalogica do a teen range sunblock, it’s not greasy like normal ones can be where they assume because you want spf you want moisture too. Or ultrasun do loads for the face. Both cruelty free.

If your against animal testing main high street brands are still testing and sunblock tests are not nice.

hihellohihello · 28/06/2022 08:00

I like Ultrasun as it is very long lasting and can last all day (see advice on pack). So then there are no issues about reapplying once you've got the makeup on. It goes on clean (unmoisturised) skin.

hihellohihello · 28/06/2022 08:00

Ultrasun is reef safe too.🙂

Whereswallywonka · 28/06/2022 08:02

Frezyderm feels like velvet and doesn’t go all sweaty

its like a primer. Amazing stuff!

Whereswallywonka · 28/06/2022 08:04

ultrasun is awful under makeup- heavy and makes me sweaty. Much prefer chemical sunscreen on face (Frezyderm). Game changing

DandelionPocket · 28/06/2022 08:05

La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50 is the best one I've found and stuck with for the last few years. Quite often on sale on boots and PP has found a great deal on look fantastic above.

Whereswallywonka · 28/06/2022 08:06

Moisturiser with spf offers very little protection- you need a separate sunscreen

Lotsofpots · 28/06/2022 08:12

Mimitika face cream is amazing. Feels like a moisturiser and critically, never irritates my eyes - nearly all those recommended do. I don't like recommending it as it can occasionally be hard to get hold of and I don't want to exacerbate that...

Thank you Farmer water sun cream is also wonderfully light and gives a great glow.

gabagoulghost · 28/06/2022 08:12

Heliocare spf 50 is great. It's oil free, and just disappears into your face.

I have oily skin and it's taken me years to find a face spf that I can wear that doesn't turn me into a slimy grease monster. Even the beauty pie one made my make up slide off.

Might depend on which one you use(?). I use the Face 30. Also the makeup you use. I just used tinted pressed powder over with a bit of blurring cream (Nanoblur) under my eyes and on chin. If I need concealer I use a mineral powder one.

What method are people using to reapply standard chemical suncream? Most, I have seen only last 2 hours.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 28/06/2022 08:21

I love this, after a long search for something that goes on nicely, isn't too shiny and doesn't hurt my sensitive eyes. It's inexpensive and available from boots/supermarkets etc

www.boots.com/ambre-solaire-ultra-light-sensitive-face-fluid-spf50plus-40ml-10274049

I just re apply at lunchtime - but interested to hear if people use the spray type ones to top up later in the day?

The2Omicronnies · 28/06/2022 08:22

Another vote for Heliocare 360, but make sure it’s the Gel Oil-Free version. I actually think it helps keep my make up in place tbh.

MarpleFan · 28/06/2022 08:35

I use the Garnier Ambre Solaire over make up SPF 50 spray and it’s great, especially as you can top up easily during the day.

Couldn't agree more. This is the absolute best on my oily sensitive skin and acts as a brilliant base for make up. I've tried LRP and Altruist but this is the business.

RockaLock · 28/06/2022 09:22

I have combination/oily skin and have tried so many SPF50s!!

At the moment I am liking the LRP one that PPs have mentioned - it's very light and sits well under makeup.

However, having developed awful pigmentation on my forehead after using the very-similarly-textured Biore watery essence, I only use this for days where I'm actually mostly inside...

If I'm going to be outside for all or most of the day then it's Ultrasun SPF 50 all the way and I put up with the extra greasiness - I never had any pigmentation develop at all when I solely used this.

TwuntyFriend · 28/06/2022 09:37

I use Cliniques SPF for the face - not oil based and it's perfect under makeup.

Oceanus · 28/06/2022 10:11

I've been using this one www.amazon.de/-/en/Japan-Health-Beauty-Gokujun-white/dp/B01BOR2KQY/ref=sr_1_1?crid=145OYXEOV5JXP&keywords=hada+labo+spf+50&qid=1656407117&sprefix=hada+labo+%2Caps%2C121&sr=8-1 (it's a moisturiser, primer and SPF50).
My skin won't burn (not many moisturisers come w/ SPF50 and I live in a sunny place so can honestly say it works), it doesn't give me a rash, my eyes won't water, it's also a primer for makeup. I put it on after brushing my teeth, go about my business while it sinks and then put on makeup. After drying, my skin feels like velvet and makeup looks great all day long without breaking.
Full disclosure: it's gone up by a LOT lately. I last bought it last fall, I got more than one and am now on my last tub. I think I got each one for about 10-ish euros. I'll likely still repurchase because I feel like my pores are worse off from wearing masks and this works like a charm.
