Can you wear black shoes with a white dress?

I have an event to attend to next week. I ordered a dress online but I don't think it's going to be delivered to me on time. It's my own fault for not ordering on time and the shop I bought from has a 6 to 8 day delivery policy. 6 days will be next Friday. It may or may not come.

I was lucky enough to get a few hours free and I hit the shops. I did find a dress and I tried it on and I like it. Its a white dress. I bought it. I will hand wash it later and iron it during the week.

Just wondering can you wear black shoes with a white dress? The dress is knee length. The shoes are as good as flat because I can't wear heels.

Or would this be a case for fashion police?

I do hope to add a pop of colour through a scarf but I won't be able to match my shoes to a scarf. It's just not going to happen.

I do have a pair of silver runners. Would they work with the dress for a casual dress.

The event would be smart casual.

Unless the shoes are chunky boots and the dress is floaty, when the contrast looks good, black shoes are generally too heavy for a white dress. The only way it would look OK is with a black bag and black cardigan/jacket.
