Hamman towel

I brought a Hamman towel to bump my order value up to get a discount on the total order.
Does anyone use them? Are they worth it or shall I stick with my beach towel for my week in the sun?
I wouldn't use it at home so it would just be a holiday item.

I take them on holiday as beach towels.

They dry quicker and weigh less than beach towels.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 23/06/2022 14:13

I use mine at home all the time and get unreasonably irate if anyone else touches it. I love its stripes and tassels and the fact that it dries quickly when damp.

Flowersinamilkbottle · 23/06/2022 15:38

We each have one for holidays and swimming. They are great, dry quickly and don't take up much room. Also because they have a different texture to normal towels we don't seem to bring as much sand back with us!

DatingIsDifficult · 23/06/2022 15:40

Where do you get them from?

Isabelle70 · 23/06/2022 15:49

So they seem to be useful then 😀
@DatingIsDifficult I got mine from Hush but at £32 I am trying to justify the cost!
It does look and feel very nice.

Oh God I am slightly obsessed with hammam towels. Everything said above....but I like good quality cotton, nice tight weave. 😆

LaFloristaCalista · 23/06/2022 15:56

I got mine from this web site ages ago and still looking great

I picked this one up from primark at the weekend as I loved the colours, perhaps not as good quality as some but I will use it to sit on rather than dry myself.

So worth it, I love mine!

BlueSkyWarmSea · 23/06/2022 16:10

Out of interest, are they what I think of as "proper" ones, with a slightly more towelling feel to one side, or just like woven cloth? I can't imagine drying myself with one of the woven ones!

FreyaStorm · 23/06/2022 16:10

Do you mean you brought it or you bought it, sorry?

No, they're woven cloth. I have seen some for sale before that are towelling on one side but they're not true hammam towels.

Actually really nice to use!

reliahag · 23/06/2022 16:19

I use hamam towels instead of normal towels (now reserved just for guests) and find they're much better- just as absorbent, dry quicker, much easier to fold away (they're so thin). Go for it.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 23/06/2022 16:19

I bought one for the gym as it takes up so little space but I use it at home as well! It's woven so no towelling on one side but I love that it's huge, is soft but thin and dries super fast. I'd replace all our bathroom towels with them but I've not convinced DH yet!!

MaChienEstUnDick · 23/06/2022 16:21

I like a thick snuggly towel at home but I love my hamman towels for holidays. Even if you just can't be bothered lugging a big towel to the beach or waterpark r whatever. They're great for caravanning and camping too.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 23/06/2022 20:46

I love them , they don't hold the sand like normal towels, once you have dried a child with one , hang it over the windbreak/pushchair etc, dries really quickly and it makes a nice blanket to snuggle under/hide from seagulls whilst eating/keep sun off or wrap it round your shoulders if a bit chilly, wouldn't go on holiday without them, even in the UK.

bellac11 · 23/06/2022 20:53

I discovered these towels Hammam/peshtemal, many many years ago. These are the only towels I use indoors now, I hate thick heavy terry towelling.

Hammam towels are more absorbent (if you get the real deal), lightweight, easier to dry, store and wash.

I buy mine from Turkish sellers on ebay, they need to be pure cotton,, never buy ones which are poly cotton.

ThingammyBob · 23/06/2022 20:54

I love my ones. I use them to wrap my hair in after I wash it, and also for taking on holiday. I'm seriously thinking about doing away with my normal towels and just having hamam towels, they are so much quicker to dry which would be a blessing in the winter.

stringbean · 23/06/2022 21:18

I bought some from here a few years ago: they are lovely - loads of colours to choose from. Due to Brexit though, I've no idea what shipping costs would be now, and whether you'd have to pay tax as they come from the NL: www.ottomania.nl/en/storefront/1/hammam-towels/

EggRollsForever · 24/06/2022 02:10

I bought mine from TK Max. I always take them on holiday in my hand luggage as they can be used as a wrap or a blanket in the plane, a cover up in your room or at the pool and always in the back of a car.

Vicliz24 · 24/06/2022 02:13

I wouldn't take anything else now on holidays. So much lighter than beach towels

HairyMcLarie · 24/06/2022 02:20

We live in a beach resort and I wouldn't use anything else for our spa or the beach. Lightweight, dry quickly, can be used as a beach blanket, coverup/sarong.
Just counted them. We have 15!

LemonLimeWater · 24/06/2022 04:16

I love mine and use it at home and when on holiday.
