Hamman towel

I brought a Hamman towel to bump my order value up to get a discount on the total order.
Does anyone use them? Are they worth it or shall I stick with my beach towel for my week in the sun?
I wouldn't use it at home so it would just be a holiday item.

I take them on holiday all the time in place of beach towels. They are small, light weight, dry quickly, and don't get so grim in sand, all while looking more stylish, what's not to love?

uggmum · 24/06/2022 08:06

Tk Maxx have them.
Amazon also have a good selection

WeAreTheHeroes · 24/06/2022 08:14

We've had these for years - they are great and we use them here if it's really hot as they're much more comfortable to use in heat instead of heavy towelling.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/06/2022 08:20

We love ours. I always take them with us even if the hotel providing towels. They take up much less room in the bag when you want to go to the beach and dry so much quicker too.

I always take a spare one, that I keep clean, so I can use it as a blanket on the flight home if it’s a night flight.

MissStarry · 24/06/2022 08:42

Another hamman convert here- bought one then was so surprised at its many greater qualities than a standard towel, that I’ve bought a few bundles and use them at home. (Towels in cupboard for guests if they’d prefer).

I got most of mine from brandalley.

Diplidocus4 · 24/06/2022 08:45

Any clues as to a good seller (eBay)
Looking at one that's 100% cotton is that right ?
What price im are they / a good make ? Please Grin

Diplidocus4 · 24/06/2022 08:46

@bellac11
Thank you !

Wombat27A · 24/06/2022 08:52

I got a couple from Maavi, gorgeous packaging, cotton, etc.

evilharpy · 24/06/2022 08:59

We use them as everyday towels at home, they're brilliant. Far more absorbent than normal towels and dry far quicker. Also brilliant for swimming and take up much less space in a bag. We even use them as blankets when the weather is too warm for a duvet. Plus they look pretty if you buy multiple colours and roll them all up nicely beside each other Grin

Mercurial123 · 24/06/2022 10:12

The White Company are good. The best ones I've bought are from Jennifer's Hammam in Istanbul.

LoobyDop · 24/06/2022 13:59

I love them in hot weather. They’re also really good for using on top of sun-lounger pads- feels cleaner than lying directly on the pad that other people have sweated into, and cooler than a traditional towel.

Isabelle70 · 24/06/2022 21:38

I didn't realise they are so popular, looks like I should keep the towel 😃
It is a lovely fabric and print

Such unanimous love for these! I need to try one.

Are they soft or rough?

You have to wash them when they arrive, they are soft in my opinion but get softer the more you wash them. They become more absorbent as time goes on so dont discard them in the early days as not being quite right

I only buy the ones that are thin cotton, like a tea towel consistency. There are others which seem thicker or to have towelling on one side, I dont like these

BringMeTea · 24/06/2022 22:17

Loving the aversion to those new pretenders that are popping up. Hammams do NOT have towelling sides. 😄That is a lovely one you got there OP.

I remember ordering some off ebay, they werent from Turkey and I went to great lengths to ask the seller whether they were plain thin cotton with NO towelling and was assured they were. When they arrived they had a towelling side I couldnt believe it and had to send them back, I don think they really understood my objections or what I was trying to explain wasnt right with them.

Tickledtrout · 24/06/2022 22:22

Home bargains had (have?) some for £3. Excellent. Easy to wash and dry and light to carry around. Bought for a beach holiday but use them for outdoor swimming here too. No reason I wouldn't use in the house except we have a zillion towelling ones too

Oceanus · 24/06/2022 22:45

Didn't know they were called that, had to google it! haha! Aren't they made of a fine fabric? It depends on where you're off to imho. If you're off to the Caribbean or Central/St America I would think you'd fry when you set them down on the sand. If you're sticking to pools they're lighter so should get the job done and weigh less (therefore leaving extra suitcase space to buy stuff while on holiday...).

darcyandfinn · 24/06/2022 23:25

I've got quite a few. We use them all the time, especially for the kids swimming lessons, so much lighter to carry! The best ones are from South Hammam

I agree! South Hamman ones are amazing

Laquila · 25/06/2022 12:00

I have a few from Tesco that we use for camping/beach towels/swimming etc BUT they're towelling on one side...horrified to find out that these are considered inferior 😂 I do love them though!

Laquila · 25/06/2022 12:01

FreyaStorm · 23/06/2022 16:10

Do you mean you brought it or you bought it, sorry?

You could probably work that out from the context, I should think?

MerryMaidens · 25/06/2022 14:56

We live in north Africa and have piles of them. They only cost about 2 50 here though. Over 30 quid! Blimey. Very useful though, they get used as picnic blankets and tablecloths too.

Where are they made? Mine are handwoven in Turkey and last years, they at least 6 years old with constant use. The price is definitely worth it.

MerryMaidens · 26/06/2022 14:57

They're made locally. They're a staple, £40 is about 4 days work for most people. The place I get them from does bulk exports to Europe. There are some fancy schmancy places that do organic cotton and more hipster designs, but even they are only about £10.
