Anyone planning on buying any of these dresses? I love her bonkers style generally but don't know if I'm brave enough to try any of her dresses.

I don't spend lots on clothes so even £65 on a dress would be a big step for me, and they are too new for me to see them filter through second hand on vented etc.

So I'm hoping to live vicariously through you lot if anyone is planning on buying any - are they any good? Quality/fit etc?

I think they’re awful. I’m not a fan of her style generally (for me) but I think she pulls it off and looks great. I don’t think she even manages to make this range look ok.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 10:43

I like the 2 mini dresses and the poppy dress but the kaftan style ones are not for me, generally I do love Joanie clothes and I'm really keen on 60s style dresses/clothes. I find Joanie clothing to be good quality. Read the reviews to get an idea of size. I'm a big 14 to 16 and wear a 16 in Joanie. I say treat yourself. If you like the dress then get it. Who cares if the designs isn't for everyone? Wear them and be happy. 😍

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 10:44

Also Joanie often do 30% off the whole website (excluding sale) so you could wait!?

DolphinaPD · 17/06/2022 10:56

I like the Negroni, Daiquiri and Sangria ones. I don't think I'd buy them though.

LemonMuffins · 17/06/2022 10:59

They've chosen some horrible patterns. I don't like any of them and I love a patterned dress!

VonTrippTrapp · 17/06/2022 11:05

Oh I love it! The long dresses are great imo.

I am on the #nonewclothes pledge till September or I might be tempted 😁

I have found some Joanie clothes to be on the small side, especially if you have quite big boobs. Also quality can be hit and miss. If you do end up buying anything, I'd be prepared to return it.

PorkySisyphus · 17/06/2022 11:08

I am a huge vintage and loud print fan but this collection does nothing for me. They look really cheap and polyester-y.

Her BOB by Dawn O'Porter (will never not cringe at that btw) collection, while not to my taste, looked to be much better quality.

torquewench · 17/06/2022 11:09

Im not keen on most of theX DoP stuff, but I do like the granny square print dress, and their Horrockses collection.

thesugarbumfairy · 17/06/2022 11:11

I like them. But not enough to actually buy one. Not unless I'm going to a 70s fancy dress party.
I felt the same way about the Horrocks collection. Its just so meh. I love a 50s dress but can't be arsed with this.
Joannie stuff has never fitted me in the past anyway. I seem to be the wrong shape. So I haven't bothered with it.

Glitterbiscuits · 17/06/2022 16:56

I like Joanie stuff but these all look like fancy dress to me.

What sort of lifestyle do people have who wear these things?
Art teachers? ;-)

boatahoy · 17/06/2022 18:10

I think they look awful.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 17/06/2022 18:15

They are truly hideous.

DoubleChinWoes2 · 17/06/2022 18:16

I agree with PP - love her style, but these look cheap and really aren't very stylish. Even the promo photos of her don't make them look good. Bit of a miss really - they look like Smithy's fancy dress outfits!

ClinkeyMonkey · 17/06/2022 18:21

I'm thinking ... Demis Roussos. But then I am old!!

HDready · 17/06/2022 18:21

I’m so disappointed by them as I wanted to love them. Really not keen at all, just don’t know who they are designed before. Loved her BOB stuff, bought a few things on eBay and they are excellent quality.

BusterGonad · 17/06/2022 18:27

I like the Barb dresses.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 17/06/2022 18:49

I absolutely love loud 60s/ 70s patterns. We had wallpaper in our bathroom ( I know...) almost exactly like the Candi dress in the early 70s. I used to love sitting in the bath staring at it. Grin

mistopheles · 17/06/2022 19:11

Ooooh dear, close to being fabulous but definitely a miss. A bit too Abigail's Party. I would happily waft around the house in a kaftan but not these.

toastfiend · 17/06/2022 20:41

In the minority here, but I really like them. I'd definitely wear the Poppy one. I'm meant to be saving money for new wardrobes, rather than buying yet more clothes, but I am very tempted! I like a good, garish print, though. 😁

MistyFuckingQuigley · 17/06/2022 20:48

I wouldn't buy from Joanie. Bought an avid readers sweatshirt from them and the letters just lifted off after one wash. Really bad quality. Also those dresses are awful.

Skinnermarink · 17/06/2022 21:06

I just ordered the lobster print sundress, I was pretty excited for it but I’m disappointed- the print looks great but it’s not cut for bigger boobs (I’m D cup) and the shoulder straps are too loose, everything else is tight (took my usual 12) but the straps just gape. Will return.

its a shame though, I do think the quality has declined. The dresses I bought from them a few Christmasses back have held up ok though.

Really don’t like anything from the Dawn o porter range.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 18/06/2022 09:45

Thanks everyone - probably will just give them a swerve then. I've never ordered from Joanie before so no idea what the quality is usually like.

They will probably go in the sale. They have very good sales.

Thesheerrelief · 21/06/2022 15:42

I bought one (Candi I think) which arrived today and I really like it! The pattern is not for the faint hearted but it works for me.

anon2022anon · 25/06/2022 22:14

I bought the negroni mini dress and the sunrise kaftan dress. The quality on both is mile better than it looks on the pis. Thick, lined, good quality material.as Joanie normally does.

IM a pear shaped 14 and the negroni is going back. Made for slimmer hips. 14 way too small, 16 big on the arms and bust. Pattern was lovely though.

The sunrise dress is lovely. The kaftan sleeves make it feel quite special. 14 fits nice and pinches in nicely on the waist. Only problem is its £65 bloody quid, I have nothing planned to wear it too, and I would like to lose some chunk. It sold out on the website too I think, so I've got no chance of picking one up in the sale. So, dunno what to do 🤷‍♀️
