Is this still a thing or is it very dated now?

I had a flatmate in 2009-10 that did it and I remember it being outdated then, with a denim skirt though Smile

Hoppinggreen · 14/06/2022 09:35

It’s not a look I like but I wouldn’t think anyone else doing it looked awful or anything

FragileLikeABomb · 14/06/2022 09:35

Tights?

I’d go with tights.

Zazdar · 14/06/2022 09:37

I resorted to it at the weekend although it’s not something I would normally do. I was at an outdoor event and it turned cold.

Wimbunds · 14/06/2022 09:39

I'm wearing this combo as we speak! Agree it's dated, but I find it comfortable and convenient. Looks better with well fitting dresses and leggings. So no fading or baggy knees.

KalaniM · 14/06/2022 09:40

It is dated. But honestly, that’s shit. Because it can look good and keep your legs warm and yet allow you to wear sandals.

let’s revive it and refuse the “dated” script. What does dated really mean anyhow…..it’s a marketing ploy, surely.

TwinklingFairyLights · 14/06/2022 09:40

It's not me. I saw a woman with leggings under a floaty summer midi dress and wondered if it was coming back in?

I'm tights all the way personally.

It's dated but I like to be comfy and cover my bum so I'm not sure what else to wear. My eldest hates it.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 14/06/2022 09:47

I wear well-fitting leggings under dresses in the office, because tights make my bum and thighs itch like HELL on our chairs, and scratching your arse constantly is a far worse look than the leggings/dress combo! 😂😂

Kiitos · 14/06/2022 09:49

I don’t like the look, but I can see it’s practical. I also think footless tights look 1000x better than thicker leggings in this situation.

shinynewapple22 · 14/06/2022 09:56

I wear leggings under a dress in the summer if it's not warm enough to go bare legged. I tend to feel the cold . What tights do people wear in summer ? All my tights are black opaques.

Mrcpy · 14/06/2022 09:56

It’s dated, but you can make it work if you wear it with confidence! I’d love for this look to come back in as it’s so comfortable and I absolutely wear it when the weather’s cooler.

Pastaa · 14/06/2022 10:02

Bamboo leggings feel much cooler than tights or polyester leggings. It's a practical comfortable look and I think people look their best when they are feeling confident and comfortable in their look, leggings or not.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 14/06/2022 10:02

I think it depends. If you are tall / slim abs the dress has the right proportions - cos style tailoring - I think it can look very cool. Boden style tunic?! No.

TabithaTittlemouse · 14/06/2022 10:04

I hope it’s not coming back.
I was told recently that I could wear skirts/dresses to work if I wore leggings. I’m sticking to trousers.

karammba · 14/06/2022 10:06

I agree tights would look better but they tend to not be 100% cotton like leggings are, and therefore uncomfortable

MiddleNameJane · 14/06/2022 10:06

I usually wear a pair of plain leggings under a tiered midi dress - the early mornings are still too cool for me to have bare legs. About lunchtime I'll take them off. Just means I can get more wear out of my dresses as a perpetually freezing person! I don't think it looks bad at all.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/06/2022 10:07

I'm obviously very dated but don't give a shit- wrap dress, leggings- I'm sorted!!

This. I don't care if others consider it dated. I went out last Saturday wearing a longish summer dress. Nobody could see my leggings but they kept me warm and cosy.

GrumpyTerrier · 14/06/2022 10:23

I wear it all the time, it looks fine and is comfy. Never even occurred to me that people considered it dated, but then I never did follow fashion.

Steelesauce · 14/06/2022 10:40

Only in the winter with boots so they look like thick tights and you can't tell they are leggings. Fashions are coming back around though, I saw peddle pushers in the shop the other day. The old denim mini skirt with cropped leggings will be back in fashion before we know it!

StarlightLady · 14/06/2022 11:09

Leggings under dresses has never been for me. In my book you wear leggings or you wear a dress; not both.

But each to their own.

thecurtainsofdestiny · 14/06/2022 11:13

I keep hearing that leggings generally are dated.

Yet every day I see people out and about in their comfy leggings.

People should wear what they want to!

balalake · 14/06/2022 11:13

Tights better. Leggings are the idea of someone with a strange sense of humour.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 14/06/2022 11:15

It is only ok fashion wise if you either can't see them eg. three quarter length leggings under a midi or maxi dress for warmth/chub rub/modesty or if you can't tell they are leggings eg. with a skirt and long boots. If you don't care about fashion/style crack on.
