Where are women getting these lovely long dresses from?

I keep seeing women in lovely long dresses with short sleeves. I'm only short, 5ft 1 and I can't find any anywhere.
Where should I be looking?

I got some from in the style and they usually have each size in petite and tall .

Rina66 · 12/06/2022 08:20

I've got this one from Next, I have the navy and the khaki. Navy I wear with navy NB 327 trainers and denim jacket, the khaki I wear with plain white Fitflop Rally trainers and a camo jacket. Both look great with sandals. It's a versatile dress, hangs beautifully, very flattering and has pockets - comes in Petite too.

I buy midi dresses instead of maxi dresses (I’m 5ft 1). They’re a perfect length for me and I now have a good collection!

Falafel2 · 12/06/2022 08:29

Ps. Silkfred and Dorothy Perkins have some nice ones.

EBay. There are companies on there that do fab dresses.

Benjispruce4 · 12/06/2022 08:30

That’s a nice dress @Rina66 but reviews say it’s very long and petite sizes not available at the moment.

Welshrarebit75 · 12/06/2022 08:35

For casual everyday I’ve found here good -

@Benjispruce4
I'm 5'6 and the regular comes to about 2 inches above my ankle, I did order the Tall too as I wanted it to be long, it was trailing!

Surlybassey · 12/06/2022 08:45

Op can you tell us where you’re looking? I’m a similar height to you and if there’s no petite range, I go for midi which on me looks slightly shorter than a maxi would. There are literally hundreds to choose from at the moment- boden, Zara, M&S, Jigsaw, ASOS, I could go on!

Glitternails1 · 12/06/2022 08:45

OperationRinka · 11/06/2022 16:27

There are a zillion at M&S (mostly from other brands). Midi should be good for you at your height.

Midi dresses from the “normal” range make me look like a child playing dress up! I always have to buy from the petite range, but this range is not usually extensive 😕

Brillenbar47 · 12/06/2022 08:49

Boden is the best place for simple petite dresses in natural fibres imho

Mayvis · 12/06/2022 08:50

I got a couple from Matalan recently and some from Shein.

yoshiblue · 12/06/2022 09:07

I've bought a couple from Tu this year, but most of them have sold out now. Got this one the other day, good for work.

I'm 5'2" and find normal midi is near my ankles. They sometimes do petite so midi is at the right length.

dottiedodah · 12/06/2022 09:24

Im 5 ft 0 . I got a nice dress (more wintry though) at SB of all places .They do a petite range .Or I go to M and S ,midi is about right .Have a Zip Yard nearby and they shortened a lovely long dress for me .Only trouble is the price! About £24.00 for it.Small trick maybe for a one off/occasional wearing .Just turn frock inside out, and safety pin (small gold ones ) along the Shoulders .About 3 each side.Takes it up .Even worse I cant wear heels as bad feet!

Hippocamp · 12/06/2022 09:36

I buy tall midi dresses and they fit perfectly. I’m 5’2.
From Next, M&S mostly.

motogirl · 12/06/2022 10:03

I've bought two from Amazon then shortened them - I'm 5'6 and they were still too long!

cheeseisthebest · 12/06/2022 16:39

Benjispruce4 · 12/06/2022 08:02

Just Google OP. It’s hard for strangers to know your taste. Try searching Midi, shirt dresses, wrapover dresses etc.

Thank you, I get that, I have googled loads.
I think maybe I need to stop people in the street and ask them where they got their dresses from!

Seasalt is a really good shout, I like lots on there.

Absolutely do that OP. They’d be flattered! Well I would.😀
JD Williams ?

OP, I will add it's not as difficult as it sounds to hem a dress and you can easily do it by hand. You need: needle, thread, scissors, sewing pins and iron (might not be necessary, depends on the fabric, if it's cotton it helps). I always avoid cutting and try to roll the fabric up if I can which works great with flimsy and thin fabric.
So, don't dismiss a dress just because it's too long!

oviraptor21 · 12/06/2022 18:19

Joe Brown's. They have various lengths. Some would probably be too patterned for your tastes but there are some that are similar to the green one you liked.

Benjispruce4 · 12/06/2022 19:09

I echo @Oceanus . I had to take up a wide legged jumpsuit that was far too long. Hand sewn hems look better anyway. I’m

Thank you, my teenage daughter is a wonderful seamstress who makes her own clothes so will get her to do it for me!

If I had a DD skilled enough to make her own clothes, I'd be super cheeky and find a dress that reeeeally suits me, then I'd buy fabric for her to make me a copy using the other one as a model (and buy her sth nice to say thank you)...😇😊

anon2022anon · 13/06/2022 09:30

Next petite maxi dresses here, quite a few to choose from:
www.next.co.uk/shop/gender-women-category-dresses/length-maxi-sizetype-petite

I wear regular length, not petite, but so far this year I've bought midi dresses from nobody's child
www.nobodyschild.com/dresses/lengths/midi-dresses.html

And lots from h&m, but I find them better to shop in-store as there's no way of telling what's good or not
