White fitflop trainers - ok or awful?

Ohbother · 05/06/2022 17:32

I want some white trainers to replace my stan smiths which are too hot and uncomfortable. I have mild plantar fasciitis so a flat sole isn't ideal. I quite like these fitflop trainers...but am I kidding myself that they look quite nice? I've always associated fitflop with extreme middle age but as I get middle aged older I am, like everyone does, prioritising comfort!

After seeing a chiropodist recently, I'm now permanently in trainers and it's bloody bliss on your feet. So if they're comfy, go for it.

I got mine from Joya. uk.joyashoes.swiss/products/sydney-moonrock and I've barely taken them off.

HardRockOwl · 05/06/2022 17:58

I suppose I'd be classed as firmly middle aged and I'd have to pass on those.

I wear either Veja or Golden Goose. Also have a pair of Air & Grace which are comfortable too

Fitflop do the same Rally trainers as a lace up - think the lace ups look much better

I have the white lace up rally trainers and have had lots of compliments. I find them more comfortable than Stan Smiths or Superga.

WhereAreWeNow · 05/06/2022 21:47

I definitely prefer the lace up to the velcro but you should get whatever you prefer.

Rassy · 05/06/2022 21:51

I have the Rally lace up trainers in several colours. I too also have plantar fasciitis and the trainers are really comfy and stylish!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/06/2022 21:54

God no.

Just no.

Peridot1 · 05/06/2022 21:55

I have the lace up version. So comfortable.

am probably beyond middle aged at 58 though so thankfully don’t give a monkey’s about what people think.

Nutellaspoon · 05/06/2022 21:56

I think white trainers have had their day, and can risk making the wearer look like a nurse from a 1960s American psychiatric ward.

I'm going navy blue instead, low lace style too.

Lizziekisss · 05/06/2022 21:56

I have the lace up rally's too. Found them really comfortable.

MadeForThis · 05/06/2022 21:59

I like the lace up version much better.

Pattygonia · 05/06/2022 22:00

Yet another vote for plain white lace up rallys. I think flitflops are super comfortable but so many of their styles are over embellished - a bit like a footwear version of per una clothes. But when you can get a plain version (like the plain white leather lace up rallys) the comfort and general sturdy well-madeness is brilliant. I also have 2 pairs of ankle boots and one of ballerina pumps from their range but I really had to choose carefully to get styles I liked.

YourWinter · 05/06/2022 22:02

I’d go for lace ups, not Velcro, and anything but white!

TheDogsMother · 05/06/2022 22:17

Have you looked at the Jigsaw Riva trainers ? I have last years version and as a short person I love a bit of extra height plus they are super comfortable. No one comes to me for fashion advice though 🤣

chalkyc2 · 06/06/2022 06:28

I don't mind the lace up in silver? Maybe?

Summerwheredidyougo · 06/06/2022 06:47

Sorry but I really don’t like these. I think it’s the velcro combined with the whiteness- they’re like a combination of a dentist surgeon shoe with Ecco wide specialist shoes and a toddler first trainer. I think you could get something similar but with laces that would be nicer.

noideabutstilltrying · 06/06/2022 06:59

The lace up version is better.

Try looking at Nike Air 90s

Husband has foot and hip problems and was struggling with pain after walking his Royal Mail delivery. Got some Nikes and has been much more comfortable 😁

Ohbother · 06/06/2022 08:35

OK, so the velcro is one of the issues. That's what I liked about them 😭! But I can see how they have a school nurse kind of vibe. Back to the drawing board!

Whether the velcro works depends on how cool you are to start with I think. If you look like the skateboarding girl on the website then it's a confident look. If you look like me then the assumption might be that your arthritis is too bad to tie shoelaces (nothing shameful about having arthritis in your fingers but it is normally associated with my mother's generation than mine).

Trafficjamlog · 06/06/2022 08:44

Look at doesmybumlook40 ok Instagram. She has been wearing them for months. I think they were gifted but she seems to wear them all the time, way after any gifted obligations and they look great.

Chemenger · 06/06/2022 08:52

I am what you would call in my “extreme middle age” so obviously everything I wear is ugly and old fashioned Smile. I wouldn’t be seen dead in Velcro trainers. Probably easier to get away with them if you are younger, I’d be worried it made me look like I’d given up. I have laced Sketchers trainers which are ridiculously comfortable but at least give the impression I can still touch my toes.

DutifulDaughterWifeMother · 06/06/2022 09:05

Hi OP, I have fibromyalgia & plantar fasciitis and my feet hurt like hell if I have been on my feet all day until I bought these!

www.fitflop.com/uk/en/shop/rally-leather-trainers-p-X22#194

These were bought specifically for me to wear to the Chelsea Flower Show & they did not disappoint. They were so so comfortable & my feet did not hurt that day or the following day.

Normally I would wear my Giuseppe Zannotti trainers but I am truly converted to these Fit Flop Trainers and they look fab with jeans!

Anonnnnnnm · 06/06/2022 09:08

Go with canvas or suede.

MenaiMna · 06/06/2022 09:29

I have three pairs of Rally lace ups in different colours. I personally feel velcro strap shoes are for toddlers and the elderly. But I'm disabled so I replace my laces (on all my laced shoes) with elastic. Other than that I recommend FF with the super-cushioned soles for PF.

Guardup · 06/06/2022 09:39

I actually have these trainers and I love them! I’m not super hip, but am often complimented on my clothes and got these having seen them on doesntbumlook40. They are really comfortable and I don’t care if velcro looks awful to some if my feet are happy!
