M & S Summer Beauty Bag

I received an email this morning to say it’s out. It looks pretty good and is £25 (they say it’s worth £160) with a £30 spend on clothing. I have been meaning to buy some jeans for ages, so took the plunge. Anyone else?

I bought it for the Aveda stuff.

I've still got most of a pot of eye cream from the previous one. There's nothing wrong with it particularly; it's just not very exciting and hasn't inspired me to keep using it. I'll probably give the new pot to dd.

Really like the hair serum and the body butter. Like the face spray.

The perfume is pleasant but has no staying power at all.

Hate the bright pink lip thing.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/06/2022 19:26

Oh I like the arm stuff too, but it does seem a bit ridiculous to have something just for arms and I definitely wouldn't buy such a thing.

ExtremelyDedicated · 08/06/2022 19:33

I was in store last week and bought a couple of dresses so I had a look and decided to go for it as I didn’t have a beauty advent calendar last Christmas and thought I’d use most of the stuff.

I like the perfume, the Nuxe oil is OK, I’ll use it but prefer the original scent. I also like the nail polish, although I have one practically identical, it will get used. Arm and leg creams - why not, I am a bit slack about body lotion so will give these a go. I also like the Clinique cream and will give the hair products a go when I remember.

Seriously, we need a specific cream for our upper arms now? https://www.marksandspencer.com/ageless-upper-arm-crme-110ml/p/hbp60569424?intid=mobileappppdpshare

(Ignore that I use an AHA moisturiser for my KP Grin). This is taking the pi$$.

DH, DD and I had a good giggle about the upper arm cream.

I was tempted by the box, as I loved the advent calendar, but I can't use eye cream (every one I've tried has triggered an allergic reaction); can't use the serum as it's not curly-girl friendly, and am just baffled by the idea of a facial mist or upper arm cream, so decided not to bother!

LookdeepintotheParka · 08/06/2022 21:56

Glad you liked the face mist @AnnieSnap sounds promising!

I used the leg butter stuff today which smells gorgeous and is very moisturising.

AnnieSnap · 08/06/2022 22:11

Ahh, thank you @woodhill 🙂

The leg/body butter is lovely! Tried it this evening.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 08/06/2022 14:31

@Mrcpy with another hair oil, I rub a very small amount into my hands, and apply it mid section to ends, then the remainder through the hair nearer to my head. I do it on damp hair, but have curly dryish/coloured hair, which may be more receptive to it.

Thanks. I’ll avoid hair oil, I think, because I have straight fine hair which doesn’t look great when sleek.

TurquoiseDress · 09/06/2022 11:20

I remember getting so excited about this when I bought my first one a couple of years ago!

Was in M&S the other day and there were loads of beauty bags in various places.

I seriously considered buying some bits & pieces to get the £30 minimum spend but I restrained myself as I really don't need any stuff for myself or DC

Then also paying £25 for the bag on top

2 years ago during lockdown it was all justified as I spending much less generally & all clothes shops shut etc

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/06/2022 12:37

I bit and I have to admit I'm disappointed this time (I get one every time and usually love them)

I hate the smell of the leg cream (and I note that it says on the tube you can use it all over the body so why market it as just a leg cream?!)

I love Nuxe oil but much prefer the smell of the original one

I already have the Aveda hair treatment from last time (was it in the calendar?) I'm not mad on the scent - it's very like the smell of the leg cream!

The lip crayon is lovely in texture but the colour doesn't suit me.

I like the perfume and will definitely wear it. I'll take the moisture surge cream on holiday with me, and the EH face spray. I love the hair shine serum and I'll definitely use the nail varnish. I also quite like the little bag it all comes in and will use that.

Overall it's not great and I wish I hadn't bothered but I'm a sucker for them! I'm surprised there's no sun cream etc as it's a Summer beauty box, but the facial spray will be used when I'm abroad so all's not lost.

Movinghouseatlast · 09/06/2022 12:45

I think it's great actually! Love the body butter particularly

Arsewangry · 09/06/2022 14:19

I bought some of the lovely bralettes (on the back of another thread!) and also some new pjs and treated myself to the summer bag and I love it. I love the hair serum, Clinique moisturiser, eye cream, face mist, perfume, I like Aveda so I was pleased with the hair treatment and that was timely as my hair is a bit dry and damaged due to bleaching. Overall I'm really pleased with it and it was a lovely treat - like a mid year advent calendar all in one go!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 09/06/2022 14:28

Hmm. Still thinking about the arm cream. These are the results I would like. These are similar to my arms now, and these are the results I am hoping for.

I don’t want to sound like a complete idiot but… my arms are definitely smoother after a few days of using the cream!

I’m not sure what to do with dry oil, apart from spill it everywhere as I’ve done so far!

tobee · 10/06/2022 00:10

I was disappointed that this seemed very similar to last year's bag. ☹️

Also, I didn't like the pink bag as much as last year's.

tobee · 10/06/2022 00:12

"I already have the Aveda hair treatment from last time (was it in the calendar?) I'm not mad on the scent - it's very like the smell of the leg cream!"

I think that the Aveda hair treatment was in BOTH the advent calendar and last year's summer bag!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/06/2022 16:53

I really like the smell of the leg cream.

They definitely need to have replacements for the eye cream and Aveda conditioner next time.

BeaLola · 10/06/2022 18:44

I do like mine (- chubby stick and nail varnish as colours not for me) but for a summer bag a face if body sun cream with 30spf or higher would have been lovely

woodhill · 10/06/2022 18:54

Yes, it's contents is not always useful

I would have loved an spf cream or small night cream

Or shampoo

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/06/2022 20:08

Hopefully someone from M&S buying dept. is reading this thread!

anewbook · 12/06/2022 12:15

I love mine !

LoveItOrListIt · 13/06/2022 07:08

First time I’ve bought one of these and I was pleasantly surprised! Some hits a couple of miss and some left me baffled but overall a nice treat.
Aveda leave in conditioner…loved how it left my hair but minty…ewe…who wants minty hair?
Hair serum…big hit…I will buy that again.
coconut perfume…nice bright summery fragrance…will use for holidays.
moisture surge…handy…will be used.
nail polish…surprising hit! Love the colour for summer and has last well the last 2 weeks…not a chip to be seen.
Arm cream…dubious!
Leg crème/body butter….very nice…will definitely use but propbably wouldn’t rebuy.
Nuxe oil…wtf is that? I don’t even know what to do with it…I thought it was perfume until I read throw thread 😂
eye crème…don’t like…leaves residue
face mist…perfectly pleasant.
the bag is a bit cheapo.
overall it was an interesting experiment! Might be tempted to do again if the products change next year.

Mrcpy · 13/06/2022 17:07

Nice to read everyone’s take on the products.

After using it for a while, the hydrating mist is REALLY growing on me and it’s a huge surprise because it was one of those wtf products when I first received the bag. I might actually rebuy. It just makes me feel so nice!
