Is the Dyson Air Wrap worth it?

Whatliesbeneath707 · 28/05/2022 14:21

I've got shoulder length frizzy hair (caused thyroid/menopause) and I keep looking at the Dyson air wrap. I'm not sure if it would improve my hair and its expensive at £450. It would be the curling barrels that I think I would use the most.
Any experience of using it - is it worth the money?
Thanks.

I love mine. I have frizzy hair, but using this, I dont need to use straighteners anymore. So the condition of my hair has vastly improved too. I use the smoothing brush if I want it straight/smooth. And the curling attachments create lovely smooth curls. Look out for good deals. I managed to get mine in Boots for about £350 on offer but that was a few months ago.

I love mine. I have collarbone length fine frizzy hair and it’s the only way I get a lasting curl.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 28/05/2022 21:29

Can I ask, do the curls hold once done?
I'm trying to justify the cost!

I have had one for 3 weeks and I like it so far. I got mine from Qvc which has a 2 month return period and also did it over 3 monthly payments so not so bad on the bank account.

HillCrestingGoat · 28/05/2022 22:00

Definitely get it from somewhere you can return it to so QVC or Dyson themselves. I got mine from Dyson. You can then practise using it and if it works out keep it if not return it.

It took several attempts to get my curls to hold but I do have bra strap length hair so the weight of my hair is an issue. Mine will curl into a ringlet but whether it holds is all to do with your hair. My hair will hold beautifully with no product if I use a curling wand set to 200 degrees. For the Dyson I use a combination of L'Oréal Tecni Art Panache Hair Spray which is a texturising spray. Even if I straightened my hair I would use this so my hair isn't too sleek and thin, it makes the hair feel thicker. I also use L'Oréal Professionnel TECNI.ART Pli Heat Activated Styling Spray. So both of those to get my hair to hold a curl.

There are a million videos on youtube some of which are not the best way to use the Dyson. I think this lady sums it up well, around 10 minutes in she uses the curling barrels. You can see how dry your hair needs to be, literally still a teeny bit damp. I also just use the barrels to curl the bottom of my hair to add volume and bounce, rather than a head full of actual curls.

I have one. I have a horrible fine dry scraggy head of hair. I can't think of another way to describe it but with a bit of effort with the air wrap it looks great.

whenwillthemadnessend · 28/05/2022 22:21

Love mine. It's makes lovely big waves and body and dried very quickly too.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 29/05/2022 06:58

Oh thanks everyone- I think you've convinced me! 😁The video was really useful too - thanks.
I've looked on QVC and that's a really good idea about buying it from there with the 60 day chance to try. That will be a good safe bet.
Thanks.

@SparkyBlue yes, that's just like my hair. I used to have lovely thick, strong hair until my thyroid packed up! My hair is now like flipping candyfloss! You've given me hope!

Love mine. People ask me if I've had it blow dried.

bertieb7 · 29/05/2022 07:04

I adore mine too! Kate Middleton style curls every day if you want with minimal effort. I curled my hair on Thursday and it still looks fab today.

Isabelle70 · 29/05/2022 07:41

I would also look at the one with long barrels. I don't class my hair as long but the normal refurbished one I did try first had the regular length barrels. I now have the long barrels and it has made a difference, easier to wrap the hair.

SparkyBlue · 29/05/2022 08:10

@Whatliesbeneath707 now I wouldn't be lucky like @bertieb7 as nothing on this earth could give me Kate Middleton type hair my hair is just too crap. I'm so envious of all the ladies I see in Facebook with hair like that . So do adjust your expectations lol. But my hair definitely looks way way better than it would if I styled it normally. Also bear in mind if you have naturally dry hair like mine if I curled it and styled it with normal appliances it would be like straw but that's not happening with the dyson so for that one alone it's excellent

Mumski45 · 29/05/2022 10:01

Love mine and I have very frizzy hair. Try not to get caught up in the trap of buying loads of expensive products if it doesn't work for you first time. IME it's all down to technique not products. I do use a frizz ease serum and a curl creme but only relatively cheap ones and using different ones doesn't make much difference but different techniques do.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 29/05/2022 10:24

I hate to say it but I love mine as well. I’ve spent hundreds trying to replicate the air wrap.
I brought it before abs returned it as was sure I could buy something cheaper and get the same effect. But I brought it again recently. It’s the only curl that holds in my hair. It drops but not completely
I have jaw length fine hair and the only other one that works is the GHD curling tong. Not the iron it is the tong with the clamp.
I don’t have to section my hair with the air wrap either. I just do it all at once. When curling I just put the barrel against the piece I want and it wraps it all it self. Probably because my hair is quite short and fine.

jeaux90 · 29/05/2022 17:04

Love mine, had it about 2 years and my hair is in much better condition now (it's thick and curly and I blow straight)

It does take a little learning but stick with it, plenty of good YouTube videos on

Whatliesbeneath707 · 29/05/2022 17:28

You're all convincing me! 🤗
Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with it. I feel better about taking a chance on it now.

I couldn't get it to work on my hair and I'm great with hair usually .🙄🙄

NotYourOscarSpeech · 29/05/2022 19:19

I think it is a great product BUT if you don’t spend time and effort on your hair usually a £450 styling tool isn’t going to magically change you into someone who does.

(Said with experience and an expensive dust-collecting product)

Whatliesbeneath707 · 30/05/2022 20:58

Oh, I definitely need to buy it where I have 60 days to try it then. Thanks.

I bought one and eventually sold it on eBay. My hair would look beautiful for 20 minutes and then all the curl dropped out.

if you buy direct from Dyson they send a courier to collect it if you want to return it - that service is free so it's a much better deal than having to pay postage and insurance for a QVC return. They will also monogram the case for you at no extra cost. Fancy!

Greyhare · 31/05/2022 23:18

I sold mine as I hated it, the curls would not work or stay in, the brushes were useless on my fine hair and the Revlon One Step is far superior to the round bristle brush.

queenie2016 · 31/05/2022 23:30

I love mine I have hair extensions so the curls hold well as long as I pin them while drying the rest of my hair .

torquewench · 01/06/2022 06:26

I sent the one I had back to QVC as I get better results with my curling tongs, GHD Glide and my Babyliss Big Curl. The AW was a real faff to use and the results were no better, if not worse, than what I can achieve with my more reasonably priced hair tools. Any curls also dropped out pretty much instantly. It also made my hair very static-y.

orangeisthenewpuce · 01/06/2022 06:35

I use it every day to dry my hair straight ish with a bit of bounce. I love it. Well worth the money. I have arthritis and it's much easier to use than a brush and a hairdryer. I've got a babyliss big hair but that pulls lots of my hair out and the air wrap is far superior. Makes my hair really smooth and sleek. When I do curl that's really easy to do and the curls last well. I got mine from qvc.
