Is my hair too damaged to fix? (Pic included )

I'm naturally dark brown.
I've been getting highlights for years now.
My hair is really dry /damaged
Can this be fixed or not?
I have started using kerastase shampoo and hair mask and laying off the heat
Would you just chop it all off ?

I'm the same. It looks OK styled, but of course that's adding more heat. I can't go back dark as I'm so grey, but it's like a badger. If I could have stayed dark I would but the root growth was after a week. The blonde has really helped but its destroyed my hair. I'm not doing it anymore. I'm going to try a t section and see what happens. I tried going grey a few years back but I hated it.

I’ve found the Charlotte Mensah hair oil amazing. It’s really expensive but o got a sample and you only need a tiny bit. Really helps. And smells amazing.

But I like your brown, @pinkismyfavvvcoloyr and would be tempted to chop a bit off and go back to that.

Yes, I'm the same. I can't go back to dark now because I'm so grey that the maintenance would be weekly, the greys would be shining through within days. With blonde hair I can go for ages without needing a touch up. But the bleach is damaging my hair and also, I do think I look better with dark hair. Dilemma!

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 09:49

That's my problem too I'm nearly 40 now and my greys are so bad.
I can't keep up with the upkeep of being brown.
The blonde hides the greys but obviously is damaging.
I've tried the green kerastase mask resistance but that made it dry.
I use the redken extreme mask now which is a bit better.

I loved my dark hair. I never wanted to be a blonde. Better than grey though. Hair is like candyfloss and I want to start swimming again.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/05/2022 09:50

I'd get some length taken off but I think it looks damaged as it's so blonde. I'm surprised your hairdresser doesn't break it up a bit with some strands of your natural colour. I think that why it looks so nice when it's curled as it's not just flat blonde.

I have my T zone highlighted 3x a year and the greys just blend in , really low maintenance.

Jeansgoals · 28/05/2022 09:57

That's good to know.

Jeansgoals · 28/05/2022 09:57

Is T zone the same as half a head?

Your hair is fine. I've seen much much worse.

caringcarer · 28/05/2022 10:39

Chop into a Bob to get rid of straggle and split ends. It will make it look thicker and healthier. You can always grow it again.

Sisisimone · 28/05/2022 10:53

I'm astonished really that you would consider continuing bleaching you hair to oblivion when your natural colour is so lovely. I'm 50 and have dark hair and the upkeep really isn't that bad. I have a balayage then just a root tint every few weeks to cover the grey. It looks like it will just break off anyway if you continue

CallMeNutribullet · 28/05/2022 11:06

Op hair can always be fixed because it's dead whenit comesoutof your head and it grows. It does mean cutting away the damaged hair though. Split ends can't be reasealed. Agree you need to cut it and go darker. If not brunette then some low lights and stick to a t-bar.

k1233 · 28/05/2022 11:28

I'd cut 4" off to get rid of the straggly ends. It's not normal IME to go the full length of the hair each touch up. Yes if you're redoing the highlights but otherwise it's just a touch up for the root regrowth. Otherwise you're getting bleach over already bleached hair and that's bad for your hair.

L'Oreal have a new shampoo / conditioner called metal detox and it's amazing. You use very very little. The shampoo lasts me about 6 months. I go through the conditioner faster but you don't use much. My hair is amazing using this. Better than Olaplex which I was using before.

Londontown12 · 28/05/2022 12:01

It should not be damaged if bleach is correctly applied it happens when it’s being overlapped on previous already bleached hair and lifted to much and because u now look fullhead blonde I guess overlapping has caused your damage !
you only should be having fullhead twice a year then just half head or t section u should change stylist it shouldn’t have got that bad ! X

Milliesmummy92 · 28/05/2022 12:12

Are you able to wash it and leave it to dry on its own? I found this has helped mine so much as I was having the same issue as yourself, also with the length I'd try and do a few weeks of no heat to it off possible so wash (use loads of conditioner), leave to dry and then tie it up for a few weeks with no straightening/curling. X

Milliesmummy92 · 28/05/2022 12:14

Obviously wash as normal I've just realised that sounded like I meant tie it up for a few weeks and don't wash it 😂. I've found tresemme conditioner is really good x

AWOL66 · 28/05/2022 12:27

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:44

Yeah it's highlights but I think as I've been getting them for that long ...I'm nearly fully blonde.
She is yeah the full strand every time.
I think eventually I might go back to a balayage (so roots natural then let it grow out like that )
Maybe my hair can't take all the bleaching

Do you mean your hairdresser bleaches each foil all the way from root to tip every foil? My hairdresser told me you shouldn't ever put bleach over bleach (a bit of overlap when doing regrowth is fine though). Bits of dry hair should be sticking out of each foil. You only need toner all over to refresh dull or brassy blonde ends - not bleach. There was a thread about this last week where the OP's hairdresser was doing the same. I've been blonde and brunette and liked both but know how hard it is to get it blonde again. I'd aim for balyage if anything before taking that leap.

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 08:31

@SophSoSo no not stringy at all.
I think the mask I'm using is a protein mask (it says 6% protein ) redken

I’d take a break from the protein products! They can build up over time and make hair a bit crisp and dry. Use a clarifying shampoo, and then follow up with moisturising treatments for a couple of weeks before you start the protein again. Check all shampoos and products carefully for proteins, they are in so many products.

Coco and Eve is a good one to try.

my hair was completely fried due to highlights gone wrong. I had waist length hair and it simply snapped off gradually over the course of a few months. Cut it to just below the shoulders, it had to be done. Then I did as above, feel cleansed and avoided protein. Now I use them once a week (olaplex)

good luck!

EmergencyPoncho · 28/05/2022 12:40

I would dye it dark blonde and get it regularly chopped. Plus olaplex/ elasticiser. Then moving forwards, have a few blonder lights, to break it up. Try to let it dry naturally etc etc.

Londontown12 · 28/05/2022 13:29

@Catcatcat12 is absolutely correct ! X

pinkismyfavvvcoloyr · 28/05/2022 14:00

@Catcatcat12 I think this is where I'm going wrong
Using protein masks too much
I need a conditioner /mask without protein but can't find any

babyboyHarrison · 28/05/2022 14:05

Whilst olaplex is great, there is another newer product K15 that might be worth a try. It's just the one product and only takes 4mins and you don't need to wash it out so I find it much simpler to fit in.
