Black tie - flat shoes

I've well and truly moved away from heels in recent years. I still have some but won't wear them. Hate them.
Just been invited to a work-related black tie event. I have no idea how to wear a black tie dress with flats. Normally I go for shift-shape midi with heels which is flattering, but I am not in love with my legs and don't want to bare them with flats.
Maxi? Floaty maxi doesn't feel "professional" enough.
It's work related so I don't want to wear anything too glam or sexy.
Size 8-10. Not black. £100-200.
Ideas please?

A summery maxi with flat jewelled sandals? They would add a bit of glam maybe.

hidethetoaster · 20/05/2022 16:51

Sandals definitely not smart enough! Closed toe. Some nice coloured almond-shaped toe flat will go with whatever's the right dress.

These are quite glam!

Not entirely flat but a low heel leather espadrille is a good compromise. Paired with a well tailored maxi shirt dress

This kind of vibe, bur with a less heinous print and less heel

Sorry I wasn't clear - I need guidance on what dress to wear with flats.

Do you have to wear a dress? A lovely trouser suit, possibly patterned, possibly drapey, with some shiny or jewelled flats would look fab. Or a really great jumpsuit. I always think they look better with flats.

That’s what I was thinking (and tend to do) too.

I would say you need a bit of volume rather than a straight skirt.
So eg prom style midi with small waist and flare/pleated skirt
Or so maxi you can't see your feet.

Knee length esp shift with flats looks matronly.

And I say this as a die hard flats/low heel wearer

linenalltheway · 20/05/2022 18:03

Or a straight maxi with a side split so you see your leg from the side rather than the front

@kateandme
Lovely suggestions, where are they from? I had the same problem as blossomtoes!

This one is pretty, I'm sure would be fine with flats.

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/adrianna-papell-matelasse-floral-print-column-maxi-dress-champagne-multi/p5792312?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Why not wear a tux and evening trousers with a white/cream silk shirt daringly unbuttoned to almost naughty level?

picassobride · 21/05/2022 18:20

Black tie attire from Amazon or Next?!

Why not? As long as it looks good it doesn’t matter where it’s from.
