The perfect t-shirt

Is difficult to find. Ideally I want a boat neck style (flattering for the large chested!), long enough to hide Mum tum and the sort of quality that doesn't make me want to throw it away after 3 washes. The one pictured below from Next is actually ideal but they don't do a plain version and I'm not really feeling the sequins. Any ideas?

I'm watching this thread as I'd love to find the same as long as it's cotton and not bloody see through!

jeaux90 · 20/05/2022 11:33

The best T shirts I've found are Mint Velvet. I'm not a massive fan but their t shirts are great quality, they often have relatively plain ones with the boat neck. Sometimes just a small embroidery star on a sleeve etc

I watched someone cut up a regular supermarket T-shirt to make it fit properly the other day, thought I might try it

I have that grey t shirt from a couple of years ago. These T shirts from next are a very similar style - I have several!

That t-shirt looks better before she cuts it.

Iheartmysmart · 20/05/2022 12:26

You could try the cap-sleeve T-shirts they currently have in Next. They are a similar shape to the one you like but come in plain colours. I’m also large in the chest department and fine them quite flattering. Think they are £7.50 each.

Iheartmysmart · 20/05/2022 12:28

Here’s a picture - they look better on I promise!

I've been happy with the quality and fit of these from Uniqlo. I'm large cheated and like the fit.

I don't get this - yes she cuts it into a much better shape but now there's loads of raw edges which will curl up and fray.

Did you mean to quote someone else? 😁

I agree. They're in the 2 for £12 offer (I think it's £12) . Come up a bit big but wash ok and I like the shape.

vera16 · 20/05/2022 13:24

Great. I will try the Next £7.50 version. I wasn't sure because they are 100% cotton so tend to shrink in the wash (despite me washing everything at 30).

I had the Boden one but it ended up like a crop top after a few washes. Maybe it's my washing machine which is the problem Smile

I used to like these pre-pregnancy but find them a bit short now unfortunately.

It isn't just you, @vera16 - most of my Boden tshirts are too short after I've washed them.

Thanks for this thread - I have been wondering similar, it's great to get these suggestions.

MistySkiesAreGone · 20/05/2022 13:48

I bought the Next cap sleeves in size 14. They are a bit wierd as they are tighter across the shoulder (but I am broad shouldered) hence I sized up. At the time I was a size 12, probably pushing a 14. I've now lost weight (small size 12), and the t-shirts have also shrunk to a really good size. I have white, green and red and I want the grey.

I'd experiment with the sizes as I find the lighter colours look better in a smaller size and the darker colours look better in a bigger size, I can't figure out why.

MistySkiesAreGone · 20/05/2022 13:51

Ditto Boden, I bought the Breton top in a size 14, and it now fits like a perfect size 12. I try and work on the basis that most fabrics - cotton or anything with elastane - shrink a little.

Linen not so much, perhaps as the weave is looser it can't bounce back as much.

TheOGCCL · 20/05/2022 14:07

@vera16 I wash all my tops on a delicate cycle as this seems less troublesome than everything shrinking!!

museumum · 20/05/2022 14:09

I love this one from Bam. Sooo soft yet long wearing. bambooclothing.co.uk/shop/short-sleeve-bamboo-flow-top-flint/

CaliforniaDrumming · 20/05/2022 14:11

Marking. My Rapanui tees shrank too. I am small busted and large tummied. Unfortunately no colours I like left in the Next cap sleeve. Also everything is viscose or polyester!

This looks gorgeous but out of my budget. But great cut.

PissPotPourri · 20/05/2022 14:16

I always love a fatface tee for not shrinking and wearing well. They’ve just bought out the IVY t shirt which is essentially what you’ve described I think?

Cotherstone · 20/05/2022 14:20

Next do a pack of 5 boat neck T-shirts, I’ve just bought it and that’s going to be me all summer!

CaliforniaDrumming · 20/05/2022 14:22

I am considering buying men's tees, they are not clingy and usually in stock.
